Scotland Back as Martin Drops Out
Scotland Back as Martin Drops Out
Saturday, 10th Mar 2012 14:35

Town manager Paul Jewell has made a surprise change to his side for today’s game at Hull City with midfielder Lee Martin dropping out in favour of striker Jason Scotland. The rest of the 16 remains the same.

The switch suggests that the Blues will move to a 4-4-2 formation.

Scotland’s recall to the starting line-up takes his total for the season to 17 with two more starts required to trigger a clause in his contract entitling him to another year at Portman Road on his current wages.

Hull recall on-loan Manchester United midfielder Robbie Brady with ex-Grays Ahtletic striker Aaron Mclean dropping to the bench. Full match preview here.

Hull City: Mannone, Rosenior, Chester, Hobbs, Dawson, McKenna, Evans, Brady, Koren, Stewart, Fryatt. Subs: Gulacsi, Dudgeon, King, Mclean, Cullen.

Ipswich: McCarthy, Cresswell, Delaney, Leadbitter, Edwards, Emmanuel-Thomas, Chopra, Scotland, Drury, Smith, Murphy. Subs: Lee-Barrett, Bowyer, Martin, Stevenson, Sonko.

Interesting team selection - surely we will not allow Scotland to trigger a new deal on big terms? Don't get me wrong, Scotland has been excellent this season - but a new bumper deal? Let's hope not.

Martin has been fantastic in the past few weeks - nominated for player of the month. PJ rewards him with a place on the bench. Poor. Very poor.

Where's Hyam and Carson? Bowyer on the bench - why????

Anyway, still think we will get a result.

why say jewell out? we haven't won or lost yet. we aren't going up or down so why not try out different formations and see how things go. I have been to every home and away game apart from 6 games when i was away this season, you probably sit at home and turn up when we playing well. Unfortunately i'm not there today as i'm not well. COYB!

Scotland was great when he came on in mid week. PJ must have a good reason to take Martin out of the squad- he knows what he is doing, although I am in agreement that Carson needs to be on the bench! COYB!

We will certainly miss Martin, I'm pleased to have Scotland playing but would have preferred it not to have been instead of Martin, who has been probably our best player for a few weeks now, presumably Paul Jewell has his reasons but I'm left feeling a bit confused by this change !!

Strange one, but Scotland deserves a start and maybe Martin needs a rest? With all the games coming up we've got to keep our best players fit.

Let's just wait and see if PJ's formation is a success...

Bloody Hell, Martin's on the bench - he's not died.

Maybe he's a had a knock, maybe shattered. Maybe PJ would prefer not to risk him on a crap pitch.

A few months back everyone was slating the guy.

Give it a rest.

For goodness sake. PJ has had a tip off about their preparations and he is trying to throw a spanner in their works. I trust PJ and some of you guys want to try doing the same. COYB

I too thought this was strange considering how well Martin is playing at the moment. But thinking about it, the way Hull are playing, tactically this may be the correct formation. Looks like Hull were expecting Martin to play as they've been doing their homework on him. Well see though after the 90.

Martin would certainly make an impact if he is brought on. I think this stops us being to predictable. I think Martin has been getting more and more attention as the good form has progressed. COYB!!!

Why is it some fans are completely oblivious to the concept of fitness? Sometimes a player needs a rest, especially if they've been playing out of their skin for weeks.

You're right mate, I can't remember him making a mistake all season.

Another one of Jewell's weird decisions, to add to the long list.
Unless Martin is carrying an injury - crazy decision - Martin has every reason NOT to be happy with this. Playing as he is, a potential match winner for sure.

If Jewell told some of you to put your head in the gas oven - you'd believe it was the right thing to do - I'm sure of that.

Anyway, whatever - hope it works and we get another win.

Starting to play well with settled side and then the tinkering begins! Drury and Hyam were looking good in the middle and now he doesnt make the 16. Trying to fit Leadbitter into the team again Mr Jewell???

8 games in March, Martin has been running his scocks off recently and is probably in need of a rest, some of you lot would moan if we had Messi and rested him in favour of Ronaldo!!!

Clearly tactical. Given Hull's impressive defensive record maybe Jewell feels we need a bit more fire power to start with and then Martin will be more effective off the bench with his work rate when Hull are tiring later in the game...

Point being...who knows!? So comments anti-jewell are pretty p**s poor really...

Jewel again show what a joke he is. The best tactics are to pick your best team in a formation that works! Jewell out!
