Manchester United’s Tomasz Kuszczak is the man Paul Jewell is hoping to bring in as Town’s new number one for next season. The 30-year-old Pole is out of contract in the summer and is set to leave Old Trafford.
The Blues are desperately in need of a regular first choice keeper with loanees David Stockdale and Alex McCarthy both having been recalled early by Fulham and Reading respectively this season. Arran Lee-Barrett has another year on his current deal but is only viewed as a back-up, while Richard Wright would appear likely to move on when his contract is up at the end of June.
Town haven’t had an established number one since Wright came in for his second spell in 2008/09, a situation Jewell has said he intends to resolve this summer.
Born in Krosno Odrzańskie, Kuszczak played youth football with Śląsk Wrocław and German side Uerdingen before joining Hertha Berlin in 2000 and playing for their reserves side in the lower leagues but failing to make an appearance for their senior team.
In 2004 Gary Megson took him to West Brom where he attracted the attention of Sir Alex Ferguson, who brought him to Old Trafford in 2006 for a fee of £2.125 million, a deal which also saw young keeper Luke Steele and defender Paul McShane move in the opposite direction.
Kuszczak agreed a contract which would keep him with United for four years, an initial season on loan and then three further campaigns as a permanent signing.
The deputy to Edwin Van Der Sar for much of his time as a Red Devil, Kuszczak, who extended his contract until June 2012 in September 2008, has made only 61 appearances in his six years at Old Trafford, none this season.
In February, the 10-times-capped Polish international joined Watford on loan and so far has played 12 games for the Hornets, including the recent 2-1 defeat of the Blues at Vicarage Road. Kuszczak hopes his spell with Watford will give him a chance of making the Polish squad for Euro 2012.
Sir Alex Ferguson has already confirmed that Kuszczak will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season with his contract up and Town are unlikely to be the only interested party.
While at United the 6ft 3in tall keeper has won three Premier League winners’ medals as well as two League Cup, three Community Shield, one Champions League and one FIFA Club World Cup.

don't fancy a keeper with mistakes like this in his locker: thought to be a bit of a trouble maker too at OT. sure they'll be delighted to offload him.
Now that would be a number 1. No fault to Aaron on last nights goal and the saves he made from King to keep us in the game were the best he's made all season. But for me he would be our No.2 as he doesn't perform at last nights level all the time. Kuszczak get him now.
As good as we can hope for and with Top level experience. His involvement in big games would mean he could offer advice to all players. You can't stay at UTD that long and not learn anything.
I fear he will sign elsewhere. Need to move on this ASAP to have any chance.
please no! utd almost conceded the title thanks to his poor keeping, great shot stopper been very prone to mistakes just like ALB so only a decent 2nd keeper in my view...
30 something goalkeeper (but may as well read...defender/midfielder/striker...delete as appropriate), sat on the bench for the last 4 years on big money.
We want young, hungry players who want to play in an improving team.

I just did a Google search for him and saw the story a few minutes ago on the Daily Mail website, written by Mel Henderson.
Without getting too carried away by big team glamour, I don't think a goalkeeper would survive six years under Sir Alex Ferguson at Man Utd if he wasn't any good.
It sounds like Man Utd want to keep him but he wants to leave, and the first team football we could offer may attract him. Like many deals, it will probably boil down to whether he is realistic with his wage demands. Or, the link could be untrue of course.
I rate him very highly. There's a lot of pressure playing at Man Utd - especially with limited First Team options (which really puts you in the spotlight when you are playing). He would benefit from playing regulary as an established No.1.
30 is also a good age for a keeper. Look at Brad Friedel and Mark Schwarzer for examples of goalkeepers having longer careers.

Poor bloke is getting knocked before he can even smell us but I will say one thing he is keeping Loach out at Watford so what does that make him. Of those possibly available I would take Brad Guzan at Villa but the rumours are that Joe Lewis may be the man. No doubt this link will be one of many more.
yes please!! Would be an excellent addition and should be hungry to succeed after some relatively barren years. Had the quality whilst at Hertha and was only kept out by Gabor Kiraly, who at that time was one of the best keepers in the Bundesliga.
I had a shout on this one a few months back before I'd seen his name mentioned in connection with us, just a gut feeling I had. Good keeper, prob not quite good enough for Man Utd or other top Prem teams but I'm sure he has enough quality to hold down the number one spot at most championship clubs, just hope it's not another loan.
