Season Ticket Sales Down
Season Ticket Sales Down
Thursday, 10th May 2012 08:00

Town sold more than 12,500 season tickets for the 2012/13 season prior to the early bird deadline in April. Despite those numbers being a reduction of 2.6 per cent on the figure at the same point last year, chief executive Simon Clegg says he's pleased with the total given the current economic climate.

Chief executive Simon Clegg said: "I'd like to thank the supporters who have purchased season tickets at the early bird prices. The figures show the fantastic loyalty of the fans at this club in difficult times.

"We've had a disappointing season with another mid-table finish. When you also take into consideration the current economic climate and the impact it's having on people's lives, then we have to be very pleased with the overall take-up."

A fifth of the tickets sold were bought online, a service which was available for the first time this year, while 60 per cent of those purchasing seats used the 12-month direct debit scheme.

Fans buying for the first time or returning after at least a year away from being a season ticket holder made up seven per cent of sales.

Season tickets are still on sale via the club site. Town's 2011/12 total eventually reached 13,370.

I hardly think its just the economic climate that is deterring people from renewing their season ticket. How about looking at the performances on the pitch and people weighing up whether it is value for money!!?

However just for the record I have renewed my ticket - its a big summer for Messrs Evans, Clegg and Jewell - lets hope they deliver!

2.6% down on last year? By my reckoning that's approx 330 less tickets sold which isn't too bad

Surprising figure though was that total season tickets sold only increased by about 530 last summer

Kind of shows that if you're buying a season ticket, get the early bird price or else most people don't bother.

Lots of empty seats at home games yet again next season

Tbf ask most clubs in the championship if theyd like about 13,000 season ticket holders & the answer would be yes please.

Football is an expensive game now thanks to the players wanting huge wages.
If you buy a season ticket at least it reduces the cost of a match than buying on the day.

Not just the price of the season tickets or the lack of success. Silly things like tank of petrol to get to the game £5 to park the car,£5 for a programme something to eat and drink, so £100 quid to watch a match, Work and family commitments etc

It's getting to the stage that in a few years time we'll have 5 fans per stand.

Start showing sucess on the pitch in the form of top 6 in division plus a decent run in the cups and the stay away fans will start coming back.
Cost of attending matches is expensive but the season ticket price has hardly changed over many years now and significantly brings down the price per game over match day prices. Difficult for those who can only attend the odd game due to work etc to stump up for a season ticket. The season ticket and match day would represent greater value though if the players performances every match was better than they have been for the last few seasons under PJ and Keane!
Better performances = increasing crowds = more noise/better atmosphere = better performances (from crowd support)..........

Simple Walberswick. Parachute payments for four of last season's Top 6 will have helped. So'ton = owners money spent a little more wisely that at PR. Cardiff = the old ITFC way of getting a lot of money for your best player each year and using that to strengthen the squad. Plus trousering £1.5m for Chopra.

A few hundred tickets down then? That's pretty good. What did people honestly expect?

figure more shocking for us being used to great success in the what seems so distant past now, and if we are all honest.. we are envious of the shower up the road 'well maybe' and how well they have run things over the last 3 seasons... for us to pull back the honoury rights is going to take a while...

Easy to see why.! Norwich have a family discount scheme & as they are all related cheaper seats.

Hardly surprising and certainly not terrible in terms of 'lost finances'.

The cost of watching football is prohibitive for me nowadays and especially when it's SUCH a gamble as to what you're going to see. I can certainly think of more worthwhile, enjoyable and entertaining ways of spending my very hard-earned cash...

Good on those who are buying the tickets though - essentially you are part of the financial backbone of the club.

Really worried for the long term future of the club - why are future generations going to support Ipswich when tickets are overpriced, atmosphere is non existent, and they have never seen us play when we were a decent football team?

I have bought a season ticket for the first time in 8 seasons, and convinced my old man to aswell for the first time in 4 seasons.
I think the coming season will be more successful than the last. I would like us to be realistic and challenge for a top 7 space. PJ has been clearing the deadwood and with a few sensible signings to strengthen the team to hopefully come I'm reasonably optimistic. I'm hoping there are more ticket offers so friends of season ticket holders can get cut price seats at certain games, because it's newbies that will consider coming more often in the future. Let's just get behind the club, including players, manager, CEO & owner. COYB

The sales seem very good all things considered. BUT with match day ticket sales clearly declining (attendances only 16K at times last season) - I do fear we could reach lows of possibly 14.5K this coming season. ITFC must now consider their strategy and encourage more fans to attend. Building a team must be the priority - no more loans and has beens. Although I have no faith in PJ, I have renewed my ticket and will support the players next season.

NewYorker - aren't the entire Norwich support one big family??? That's a huge discount...

Looks like we are down to the hard core support now then.

I have renewed my season tickets but have absolutely no faith in messrs Evans/Clegg/Jewell to sort out the mess the club has become.
