Blues Linked With Move for Watford Keeper Loach
Blues Linked With Move for Watford Keeper Loach
Friday, 1st Jun 2012 12:32

Town are reported to be considering a move for Watford keeper Scott Loach. The 24-year-old was a schoolboy with the Blues Academy between 1997 and 2000 before his family moved back to Nottingham where he had been born.

Loach, who last summer said it would be “a dream to play” for his boyhood club one day, fell out of favour at Vicarage Road during 2011/12 with Manchester United’s Tomasz Kuszczak coming in on loan.

Coincidentally, Kuszczak is top of Paul Jewell’s list of potential new keepers but Loach, who is contracted to Watford until June 2013, may well be amongst his alternatives. The former England U21 international will have worked with keeper-coach Malcolm Webster during his time at Playford Road.

In addition to his spells with the Blues and Nottingham Forest, Loach was also with Southwell United and Lincoln City's youth set-ups, while he has spent time on loan at Stafford Rangers, Morecambe and Bradford City while with Watford. A number of other clubs are also said to be monitoring Loach’s situation with the Hornets.

In addition to Kuszczak and Loach, the Blues have also been linked with Birmingham's Colin Doyle, although with sources close to the club playing any interest down, and a loan move for Manchester United's Ben Amos, while ex-Aston Villa man Brad Guzan is also believed to be on the list of possible new keepers.

Loach, who is 6ft 4in tall, can be seen in action for Town’s Academy in this short film.

Quote from Watford fan..

He's a decent keeper, but really lacks any command. The difference when we had Kuszczak was fairly extraordinary.

RetroBlue. Who could be worse than ALB?

PaulSlocombe is right to state that just becuase he wants to play for us is enough. Hornet 1973 suggests that their defence lost all confidence in him and he was dropped and replaced ... by a LOAN keeper that most here are against!

We need a keeper who can COMMAND the penalty box and if this is him then great - but not just cos he'd be permanent or just cos he wants to play ..... I'd LOVE to play for Town but desire is not top of the interview questions .... I can't even get a job as Club Chaplain never mind Club Captain !! (or can I ?!)

If Watford fans are of this opinion, I would be hesitant to sign him as No 1.
Could be an able No 2 and a future No 1 if he improves over time. With the loss of Wright and Cropper we really do need ALB + x2 other keepers.
Maybe Loach & ALB as cover and a senior No 1 like Kuszcak.

TBH GK is a vital position & we may need to pay wage higher than an outfield player to get a reliable No 1.

Too many on here letting their hearts rule their heads. Fine he's an Ipswich fan, so am I. Does that qualify me to play for us? No!
I don't think the Watford fans rate him, in fact they most likely hold him in similar esteem to ALB (another Ipswich lad)
I'm not sure we need him as number 2, (based on the assumptionthat we'd sign him alongside someone like Kuszczak) I think ALB is good enough for that, I'd rather see his Kuszczak (remember, he came in and replaced him for the last part of the season) or Guzan come in, although I've always suspected that they may be a bit beyond us.

I'll have to go with the Watford fan post on this one if he was that good why did they bring in a loan keeper for him. Yeah he might have said he wants to play for Ipswich but does that make him the number 1 we're after !!

PLEASE IGNORE MY EARLIER POST WITH A KEY WORD MISSING !!!

PaulSlocombe is right to state that just becuase he wants to play for us is NOT enough. Hornet 1973 suggests that their defence lost all confidence in him and he was dropped and replaced ... by a LOAN keeper that most here are against!

Good goalkeeper but is he good enough to be the number one of a team aiming for promotion? Not sure, might be. Could do far worse I suppose

Sounds like another ALB. Do we need two reserve team keepers?

I would be the first to welcome any player who is prepared to give 100% to this club but I can't help thinking that Loach and ALB would be a very fragile goalkeeping unit. At the end of the day Watford did not think he was a first choice championship keeper and maybe they were right.

I really don't know enough about him to say one way or the other. Certainly it seems Watford fans wouldnt be sorry to see him go so the omens are not good, although having said that sometimes a move can help a player regain form.

One things for certain we have far more chance of signing Loach than we do Kuszczak! Given the choices he's supposed to have Kuszcak's not coming here!!

Rather have Loach than any of the other 'keepers mentioned. He's solid, still quite young and would want to play for us! Don't really want another loan 'keeper either. COYB!

I think he could do with a move to re-gain confidence and form.

Lets leave it to PJ,as there is nothing we can do to persuade any one to come here.Just hope the Manager makes a better fist of it than last close season when he brought in some dross as well as a couple of decent signings. As Mr jewell is in last year of his contract,he cant get it so wrong again or I feel he will be on his way.Nobody on here has mentioned about poor old Norwich losing their Manager.Wonder why?

Mate at work is a Watford season ticket holder and thinks he's toilet..... You have to wonder why Watford (a team we should be aspire to be quite a lot better than) went for a keeper on loan when they had Loach.

A traffic cone would be better than ALB.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Couldn't even get in the Watford team. Just because he supports Town doesn't make him any good.
Bring in Jaskelinan who has been released or Kuzan or even Shilton.

A town fan and class keeper
Could be ours for years

A permanent keeper is a must and Loach is clearly the right age to hold down a place for many years to come. Would be a good signing - as obviously will have the hunger to succeed - being a Town fan and all!

The only worry is clearly not liked by the Watford fans!

The times I have seen Loach play he have been excellent. Would welcome him to Portman Road and think he could be the keeper we desperately need.
