Jewell Again Impressed By Luongo
Jewell Again Impressed By Luongo

Blues boss Paul Jewell was again full of praise for new loan signing Massimo Luongo after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Luton. The Tottenham man, who will be with the Blues for the season, impressed at Kenilworth Road, having similarly been a stand-out performer at Cambridge on Wednesday.

Jewell said: “He’s a class player. I think he found it a little bit quicker than he did on Wednesday. That’s his second game at a level he’s probably not used to.

“But I think as he gets to know us and the tempo we work at, he’ll pick up the game. You can see he’s got a lovely touch on the ball and he understands the game.”

A loanee who gets most praise from PJ does not say much for the rest of the squad which he has largely assembled himself. It looks like it's going to be a long hard season with little rewards yet again!

is there no recall on the loan deal??

we still need another cb tho. we cant go into the season so weak at set pieces.
didnt go luton on saturday but at cambridge damian proved to me he is well below par, just my opinion.

Shame he is not OUR player.

Still think we need a CB, a midfielder/winger and at least one, but preferably two strikers. Still a long way off IMO. However, I accept that several posters on here disagree with me!

What cheerfull joyess posters we have on here again ... To be honest the kid sounds quality and if he is gonna add that much needed quality to our midfield i couldnt care less if he is a loanee . He is here for the season , not like its a 3 month jobby . Few more strong signings (no more average championship players please) and we could have ourselves a good little team this season ... COYB !!!!!

I doubt it, if anything it will give Luke motivation to improve and become a better player. Plus its a long season with many games so there is plenty of football to go around.

I diddnt see the game but how did Stevenson play up front?

dont know how old you are Jas 0999 but have you EVER been happy in your life ? you moan all through season and between seasons.I bet you dont even smile when you break wind . Be grateful we have a decent prospect with us regarless as to wether its a loan or not , good players are'nt exactly queing up to play for Town ,with your high expectations and ideals you should support Man Utd or the likes .[doubt if they would please you though .] Things may go wrong, we may well have a poor season again , but give us a break wait to find out before moaning COYB .

Luongo sounds like a decent addition..still a shame we didn't sign Friend..think we still need cover in the defence (God help us if Chambers or Cresswell get injured/are sold)...let's not get too carried away though,Luton was just a warm up match, the one's that count start a week tomorrow..I hope PJ uses the Bristol Rovers match to field his strongest team and hopefully get us off to a flyer and get the confidence going.

Big couple of weeks ahead for comings and goings.

Good luck to the young lad, looking forward to seeing him this season.
Only problem is if our defending is shocking again, gonna be a waste of time. SORT it out Jewell.

I watched the Luton game on Saturday and to be honest, this little fella looked the best player by a mile, very assured and decent. I don't read too much into the score to be honest, there were many changes in the 2nd half so you get that disjointed performance. More worrying for me is that Luton's big lad at the back was dominant in set pieces and Ipswich showed their usual frail backline.

Positives, Creswell and Edwards were good going forward 2nd half. We created 4-5 great chances, combination of poor finishing and good saves.

Negatives, we need more width (excluding fullbacks), I can't remember anyone else getting to the by-line and getting a decent cross in. With Bullard playing in a more forward role and Luongo playing deep, you could park a bus in the midfield, the gaps are so big. I think we could be easily overrun in midfield in that system. We controlled the ball better 2nd half when Jimmy was hooked. That is more about the system that him though, he played ok.

Luongo was only worth signing on loan if he is ready to make an immediate impact and challenge for a first team place, and signs are that this is the case - so that is positive.

We'd all prefer permanent signings to loans, but there will be some cases when we can get someone on loan who would not be willing to sign permanently as they see themselves as a Premier League player. I do not mind loans so long as we don't over-rely on them, and so long as they don't hinder the development of our own youth. There is a risk of that with Hyam (and Kourouma?) but let's hope our players up their game as a result.

We might be there next season Garv, if we don't get some decent competition at CB...

Terrible supporters. Can see why the players are tweeting about it!

Floridaboy - These same supporters follow them even to pre season matches so I think they earn their opinion even if you don't agree. I also prefer we are positive for the new season, we always have hope haha

Whats wrong with loaning this player for a year?
If hes great?

Will be the same as signing someone on a one-year deal and then lose them, almost atleast. Stop moaning about people

Can't wait to see him in action next month! He may only be a Town player for a season, but let's hope it's a season makes him not want to leave at the end of it!
