Jewell: Town in Talks With Clubs Monday, 27th Aug 2012 06:01 Boss Paul Jewell says the Blues are in talks with clubs about both loan and permanent signings as he looks to add to his squad before the transfer window closes on Friday.
While Reading striker Simon Church was again reported to be close to a loan move to Town over the weekend, Jewell wouldn’t be drawn on specific names: “We are in talks with clubs about players.
“I’m not going to comment on individual players, but we are in talks with clubs about bringing players in, both on loan and to buy.”
He said even before Saturday’s game he was aware of his squad’s shortcomings: “If we’d have won I would have said we need players.
“Our squad is threadbare. We’ve got Guirane N’Daw in, he’ll be a good asset for us in the middle of the park with a bit of strength and a bit of height.
“We need at least two other players to go into our squad, if not three. Saturday’s defeat, as painful as it is, doesn’t change my thoughts on what we need to improve the team.”

It's difficult to say to much after a few sentences online. We all know we need additions to the squad but when we dont know the background of the negotiations, e.g. How much we're bidding, how much players agents are demanding for themeselves and their clients, how players generally feel about wanting to join us or not ect. It's difficult to really understand what is happening on a day to day basis as we are not there and can merely speculate on speculation. Lets just keep our fingers crossed we can get the players in because we need them.

Garv you must be a radio Suffolk armchair fan if you have views like that ! Totally deluded!! If Keane was such a rubbish manager then how come Jewell is still using Delaney, Edwards, Scotland, smith, Martin, and untill a few months ago Leadbitter in his squad week in week out?? Jewell has had long enough to sort this team out!!

One of my friends met and chatted to Paul Jewell during the game at Braintree (where we live). He said interestingly that nobody wants to come to Ipswich, it isn't London and it isn't Manchester, so once the people arrive, they like the club, but many aren't willing to shift their families somewhere where there's not a lot happening. To be fair the same could be said for Norwich, they didn't buy loads of players to gain success, they coached a successful team right the way through. Ironically they look worse for the signings they are not trying to bring in now that it seems an attractive option to play for them... In any case, we shouldn't need more players. We have some exciting young players, we need to let them make mistakes in order to grow! If anything the only player I feel let down by so far is Chopra, he promises goals and we need to see the evidence. Otherwise, we have a good side, just develop it!

I personally believe the lack of signings is down to Marcus Evans. Last season was poor, PJ Now in his final year of his contract, and bottom line is I don't think Marcus Evans trusts PJ enough. It's a catch 22, but if we struggle even more than last season you have to question whether we will go anywhere under Evans. In real terms when he bought the club we we're doing ok under Jim, had some decent players, and about 34 million in debt. 4-5 years on the squad as a whole is weaker, we are in further debt, and further away from the play-offs. My message to Evans is back PJ now in transfer market (but no more loan players we will be back to sqaure 1 next season) if all fails at least you gave it your all to support PJ.

I think that the only positive from the hammering is the fact that despite being too late meaning any potential targets valuations will be increased dramatically Jewell has come to the realisation that new players are a necessity. Personally, I have never rated Tommy Smith and the fact that a new CB is needed is obvious. But regarding Edwards everyone is saying he's not a RB well he plays there for his country and I think over the last year or so he has been fantastic in that position and another CB would complete a great back 5. Also regarding JET maybe a new winger would give him some more competition which could make him up his game, although you never know with him. Finally a new striker at this current moment in time with the exception of Saturday I like the4-4-1-1 with Lee Martin in the holding role but evidently there will come a point in the match when another striker is needed especially if we loose Chopra or Scotland, but who? I remember Keane describing Ronan Murray as the best finisher at the club, but surely he's not up to the standard? Although I am glad Davies didn't come because he just would of been another Ellington there isn't much out there. Bothroyd fits the bill perfectly but his wages would just be stupidly high, so safe to say we have left it to late. Finally I hope that Luke Hyam holds his place in the team if he keeps playing well because it seems tradition at this club that we intergrate young players into the team then drop the, and they disappear for a year, much like when Hyam was playing the holding role before getting all the plaudits then was left out for the season Oh and btw for all the people who are crying because we lost and our promotion fight is over we're only 2 points of the play offs which doesn't seem irrelevant to you at this point in the season so stop moaning and just see what happens til Friday.

Look at last season - it proved loanees do not work...we are currently 15th,where we've spent most of the last 2 1/2 years..I can't see that changing much until we get a proper plan in place and a manager that we have "complete" faith in...2 wins and Jewell's the greatest thing since sliced bread in a lot of fans eyes,2 defeats and he's the biggest turnip going...that's not a stable way of taking this club forward,is it?..and it's going to carry on like that all season long - fact.

The reason why players will not come to Ipswich is because Ipswich is a S**hole. There is absolutely nothing to do in Ipswich. There is no entertainment for youngsters, the nightclubs and bars are rubbish, the restaurants are disctinctly average and as for the Town Centre - half the shops are closed. It truly is dreadful. Young players will not come here for the surrounding countryside - that is for sure. With regards to Jewell's team - the idiot who wrote that Jewell is still playing Keane's signings should remember that we are stuck with them. Delaney is the worst defender i have ever seen in a Town shirt. Absolutely clueless. You cannot disgard all of the flotsam when you walk in. Keane did make a couple of good signings - but then again with the money he was allowed to spend - so he should of. But for those retro Keane lovers ou there - who couldn't wait for him to go - but now long for those dreadful dark days - i have two words to say to you - Jordan Rhodes. How he could allow him to leave - for the price he did is beyond me and everyone else (well 99%) who reads these posts. Jewell is not the best manager in the world. But he is OUR manager. And while the board have faith in him (and i don't think it will be long if we get spanked heavily again) then i will continue to support him - as i support the club. It is clear we have not got huge funds available, and i am completely against sacking a bloke four days before the end of the transfer window and three games into the season. He needs to be given until the end of November. At the moment, after looking at the fixtures i am happy with four points. i do expect us to beat Huddersfield on Saturday though. And for the chap who started posting a team of linked players - you only scratched the surface. You can have another two teams if you go through all the nonsense stories. Expect signings Wednesday early afternoon.

There is no point blaming ME. He has backed all of his managers to date even to the extent of writing off expensive mistakes like Jimmy Bullard. If he were to back PJ now with say a transfer war chest of £100m (which of course he can't) it would make no difference whatsoever. There is no grand plan into which big signings can be attracted and easily integrated. Everyone has a view as to the areas which need strengthening and a few can suggest the names of players who might be recruited. But this is not a computer game. Creating a successful side is not an immediate process but the successful managers know what qualities are required in all areas of the football structure. The successful ones have luck as well as insight because they are given time to show that they know what they're doing. PJ may need more time to achieve but if I were ME I would need to be convinced that PJ actually had a grand master plan for Ipswich Town FC before I would trust him to spend any more of my money any more wisely than he has to date.

Bluey123, you only ever post negative comments full of factual errors and no punctuation, so I think you are on very thin ice calling people idiots. Where were you last week when we beat Watford? Did you come on and post about that excellent performance? No you didn't, so if you want people to respect your opinion and actually believe that you are a Town fan and not a Norwich troll then trying praising the club for once. If you can't do that, then just do one.

massively agree with dog no question having a little insight into what kind of a place Ipswich is might help, So the only reasons for players moving here are footballing reasons and guess what those footballing reasons are'nt great at the moment so that creates a negative self fulfilling prophecy, which in turn creates a frustration that has different sect of ipswich support bickering with one another and bringing that 12th man influence down to its knees!

PMSL .... As i much as i love this football club and continue to support the team and the manager its not hard to see that the three muskateers are slowly turning us into a unatractive place for potential transfer targets . Some of you blame Jewell some of you blame Clegg and some of you blame Evans for the continuous failure in landing new signings . Who ever it is who cant nail a deal really needsd to step aside . I dont dislike PJ and have always been supportive of him but he really does say some stupid things . Yes Paul the squad is threadbare but you are the manager and its your job to ensure we have a big enough squad in depth . And as for the continuous statments of "we hope to have a player in" before just about every game , your just making yourself look stupid , perhaps you should keep ya mouth shut cos each time you say this and we dont sign anyone its just another dissapointment to the fans and i think we have put up with a enough dissapointment in recent seasons . On a brighter note with a few more additions i think we may challange for a top ten place at best and although Saturdays result was embarassing i do believe it was a freak result . So lets tie up a few quality signings and look onwards and upwards .... COYB !!!

But the fact is your sitting at home on your arse no more than armchair supporters no wonder players don't wanna come! It should be us uniting together And supporting our team but instead you all just wanna argue with eachother really is Pathetic..

Funny how you post a negative comment and you get a minus figure or a positive one receives a plus! There is no denying there's a lot of negativity on here but on the back of 7-1 and 6-nil defeats who can blame them? For me, we need some experience in this side and we need it now. My fear is that all these players coming in will be loans. If that's the case then i'll be disappointed with what we've achieved in this window, which is becoming a familiar feeling. I'm pinning a lot of hope on N'Daw being a world beater and a leader. Give me one of them at the back, a wizard on the left and a towering magician up front and Hewitt to have the prominence of a 28 year old premiership international and i think we might be OK for a top 2 push!!!

What were people expecting this season? We are working project, it is going to take a while for us to be able to attract a high calibre of player into this football club because we are not seen by players as being a club going places. It is going to take time. Maybe we should target young League One players who have ambition to this club, because after all it has worked with Cressy and it worked with Walters. This could get us somewhere! I am also surprised we never signed Magnus Okounghae from Colchester on a free this summer, what a CB pairing him and Chambers could have made...

Jewell needs the financial backing from Evans and Co to spend the money he needs . You are not going to buy quality with a few hundred thousand . We got Loach , Chambers , Hewitt for next to nothing and have Luongo( WHO IS PROVING TO BE QUALITY ) and N Daw (we will see ) on loan . How can the club prove they are showing ambition to other players by spending nothing !!! PJ get on the phone to Mark Hughes and check the availibility of Jay Bothroyd. Centre half a priority too . Smith okay playing againsnt average teams but cannot seem to cope with the better ones . Right back is also an issue . Although Edwards has done ok he gets out of position too often for me and gets foward too much leaving the left side open for attackers to get behind us and ive seen this on more than one occasion!!!!

lets see what the end of the transfer window brings ....probably the standard "we still have the loan window to get in these 2-3 more players" ...how many permanent transfers do I predict? zero, how many loans? 3, never gonna learn, every time we resort to loanee's we become even more disorganized
