Jewell: Town in Talks With Clubs
Monday, 27th Aug 2012 06:01

Boss Paul Jewell says the Blues are in talks with clubs about both loan and permanent signings as he looks to add to his squad before the transfer window closes on Friday.

While Reading striker Simon Church was again reported to be close to a loan move to Town over the weekend, Jewell wouldn’t be drawn on specific names: “We are in talks with clubs about players.

“I’m not going to comment on individual players, but we are in talks with clubs about bringing players in, both on loan and to buy.”

He said even before Saturday’s game he was aware of his squad’s shortcomings: “If we’d have won I would have said we need players.

“Our squad is threadbare. We’ve got Guirane N’Daw in, he’ll be a good asset for us in the middle of the park with a bit of strength and a bit of height.

“We need at least two other players to go into our squad, if not three. Saturday’s defeat, as painful as it is, doesn’t change my thoughts on what we need to improve the team.”

I like the idea of Jay Bothroyd to play alongside chops.
Trouble is though it looks as though Evans will not spend anything so we have no chance!
Unless of course he comes on loan.
What worries me more than anything is that our squad is the smallest it's been for years, a bad injury to someone like chopra, chambers or loach etc and we are buggered

Bothroyd would be good but if we have no hope of 3/4 of Wickhams wages we ain't got a hope in hell of paying enough of Bothroyds

For me it's becoming increasingly obvious that ME is not prepared to pay big wages and fees so until someone else puts money into ITFC then we have to put up with it. I think the impending fair play rules have a lot to do with it, but time will tell if we're going about it in the correct manner.
In an ideal world buying our own players is better than getting in loanees, but if these players are unavailable or out of our price range, getting loanees in is the only other alternative.
Those who are calling for a change of manager have got it wrong for me as I dont believe it would improve matters long term. Money, or a lack of it, or an unwillingness to spend/overspend it are more responsible for our current position then poor management. Players and their agents want the earth and the club quite rightly are unwilling to pay this. We need players who will buy into the clubs plan, if money or living somewhere with better nightlife is more important to them, then they aren't right for ITFC. It must be tough for Jewell right now although he does make it hard for himself at times with his comments.
The plan seems to be get youngsters in and slowly build a side and this is the right way IMHO although there are bound to be problems along the way. Its upto PJ and players now to prove Saturday was just a one-off

Ipswich is a dire place for a young professional with plenty of disposable income to consider moving to. There really is very little to entice players here. I sometimes wonder why we all live here actually. Shall we all move to Blackpool?

Let's be realistic. After 12 wins in 56 games at derby we appointed a man with a good future behind him. He seems unable to grasp the fact that he is ultimately responsible for our performances, consequently he trots out the usual excuses after each defeat. Whatever leanest faults his sides never experienced the severe hammerings that have been a regular feature of jewels tenure. Does anyone on here honestly think that this will be the last bad beating we will suffer? His assertion that no one will come here because of where we are located is beyond laughable. We are an hour from London Paul. Remember London ? They just held some major sporting event there. I'm sure it must have been easy to get players in at such hotspots as Wigan or Bradford. Either represent us or ship out paul

warwickblue if you think Ipswich is a dire place you ain't traveled much mate! Parts of Suffolk are beautiful, learn to appreciate what you've got!

As for Ipswich not attracting players, what's changed? Have they moved it? Only success will bring better players, so lets let Paul Jewell get on with it shall we and stop moaning about everything.

Get behind this young team and lets push them up the league FFS!!!!!

I think the fact that Marcus is no longer opening his wallet/chequebook just about says it all re his faith in Jewell i'm afraid.

Don't get me wrong,I wasn't getting carried away after the 1-0 win at the mighty Watford and i'm not getting too down about the 6-0 demolition (these are results i've gotten used to overt the last couple of seasons).

I like Jewell,I like the majority of players he's signed since he's been here and the same goes for the majority that we get linked with...it's just that I don't think the guy has got a football brain to manage our club the way I certainly want to see it run (playing good attacking, attractive football, bringing through our own kids, not chucking money at players).

We need to be looking for the next George Burley, someone who will be here for 5-10 seasons, with a proper plan for this division and then the next one up..sadly we seem to be getting further and further away from that every passing season.

Fatcatevans at last someone talking sense everyone comes on here with excuse after excuse its Jewells fault clear and simple he has cost Evans millions in pay offs wages and crazy deals of course Evans will not trust him with anymore money .
The only reason Jewell is still at the club is that Evans wont admit he has made another grave error.
If Paul Jewell had and decency he would leave the club now

We need 1 quality big strong vocal centre back to play with Chambers (if he proves to be a player - time will tell) who can win balls in the air and organise the back four and give the keeper some confidence - we need a big strong quick ball winning centre midfielder to do the same in midfield (N'Daw ???) and a big forward to hold the ball up, win it in the air and provide the support our current lone forward craves plus a couple of proper wingers. If this means cashing in on Cresswell and Lee Martin for £5 million plus then so be it.
Young up and coming players are great but we need to get players who will be able to boss the defence/midfield etc vocally and agressively.

You don't have to travel far to find better than Ipswich in terms of restaurants, clubs, music, culture and night-life. Cambridge, Colchester and (I'm sorry to say) Norwich all have infinitely more to offer. Today's young footballers will aspire to more than a QD at both ends of the high-street and a town-centre that is so quiet most evenings that you could organise a 5-a-side tournament on the Cornhill with no danger of the ball hitting a passer-by. I think Jewell has a point when he says that it's not an attractive place to come to.
