Taylor and Chopra Miss Barnsley Trip
Thursday, 27th Sep 2012 13:19

Town will again be without frontmen Paul Taylor and Michael Chopra when they take on Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday. Taylor could face surgery on his cracked foot, while Chopra is still sidelined with his thigh strain.

Jewell said: “Paul Taylor went to see the surgeon yesterday. There are two scenarios. The worst case scenario is that he may need an operation. If that happens, it’ll be a long-term thing.

“We’re going down the route of being conservative with it and trying to treat it and seeing how it settles down over the next six weeks. If it settles down and he doesn’t need an operation, fantastic. But if he does, it’ll be a long-term one.

“I wouldn’t have thought we’d have him for six weeks, although the type of character he is, he’s shaking his head at that, thinking he’ll be back before then.

“It’s a nasty injury and we’ve got to be careful that we give him the right treatment and the right rehabilitation.”

Jewell says Chopra will also be out on Saturday, although the former Barnsley loanee may be available for Tuesday’s game at Brighton: “Michael Chopra’s got a thigh strain, he picked that up against Wolves and he’s out for Saturday. So, we’re a little bit light in the striking department.”

New right-back Elliott Hewitt’s comeback from hip surgery was temporarily halted by a thigh strain but the ex-Macclesfield man will be back with the squad in a few days: “Because he’s been out for so long he’s going to pick up these little niggles. He’s going to be training from the middle of next week.”

Jewell confirmed that new loan signing Danny Higginbotham will be in the XI at Oakwell having been a sub against Charlton last weekend: “Danny will start."

Put Taylor on crutches in his foot brace and ask him to use his other foot. He'll still be better than JET.

If jewell plays the midifield that hasnt lost this season we wouldnt need them anyway. Cant understand why Hyam and carson arent in the starting 11.

Of topic i know but does anybody know which managers contracts finish at the end of the season? it;s just that i think maybe Evans believes he will have a better choice than if he sack PJ now.

Jon I agree with you about Hyam, as do many, but I just don't think Carson good enough to start games yet.

The team I would play:

Loach
Edwards Chambers Higginbotham Cresswell
Martin Drury Hyam Murphy
Scotland Ellington

Subs: ALB Ainsley Smith N'Daw Luongo JET Murray

You will raise your eyes at the Ellington selection but the fact is he made a difference on Saturday and played well. He did fluff his big chance at the end but at least he got in the position and made the opportunity.

I'd like to say let's go with 4-2-3-1 with Martin in the hole but that would mean playing JET and at the moment it just seems he doesn't deserve it and I think he needs a bit of time on the sidelines. Ellington has waited a long time for his chance and impressed against Charlton. The only other option would be Carson who isn't ready and probably better as an 'impact' substitute coming on with fresh legs.

And Scotland put in a MOTM performance at Barnsley last season and deservedly got his name on the scoresheet. Let's hope he can do it again.

"we're a little bit light in the striking department.”

We are in every department, with a 6k wage structure we are doomed!

Wake up Evans and Clegg.

P.S. only give money to a new boss as Jewell is clueless.

Can we sign Boyd now please.

Play him up front like arsene did when he signed Henry and look wha happened there.

Just a thought.

I hate having this sinking feeling about a Saturday and it's only Thursday :-(

For goodness sake stop faffing around with an injury like this, give him the surgery his foot clearly needs and get it sorted now instead of months of periods of being out injured because of his cracked bone!

Wonder when professional footballers are going to start wearing decent boots again , and not these ridiculous "moccasins" they currently wear. They have no protection to even average force tackles.

Pity, I thought Taylor looked sharp. Jewell is going to have to give Scotland and Ellington a start i think.
I thought Ellington looked quite pacey against Charlton, you never know, it could be a positive move with results, fingers crossed.

Just play JET up front with Scotland and put Carson on a wing.

Time to give Ronan Murray his long over due crack in the first team!
He played very well in preseason scoring a few and also setting them up with some good link up play.

But I think PJ will opt for Murphy to partner Scotland at the start. With either Carson or JET taking up one of the wide positions.

And craig Davies cost them nothing from chesterfield. Was mentioned as a possible signing on here before he moved as was Adam le fondre. And look what happened.

Oh for a manager with a bit of vision and prepared to look at good players lower down.

When will that time come?

Bluedart that is my choice as well. How can people leave Luongo out ?

Murphy is pants really is all we do with him in team is hoof it. If anybody can tell me what good he does for the team go ahead. He is slow, can't finish and can't beat a player

If I were Hyam I would get the hell out of this Club - the boy is pure, raw perhaps, class - who just doesn't deserve to play under this Manager.

He should play for a Manager who can recognise young talent when he see's it - AND NURTURE IT.

Obviously he has no chance here.
