Redknapp Calls Jewell to Dismiss Town Link
Thursday, 27th Sep 2012 15:13

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that Harry Redknapp called him over the weekend to assure him that there was nothing in reports that he had been lined-up to take over at Portman Road.

Speaking to Radio Suffolk, Jewell said: "Harry rang me last Sunday and said there was absolutely no truth in it.

“The only worrying thing was at the end of the conversation he asked me what the best areas to live were!”

The Blues manager added: “The last time I saw Harry, I was with Marcus [Evans] in Portugal [for the Sir Bobby Robson Classic golf tournament].

“I said: 'You didn't have to make the phone call, Harry, because if Marcus was going to make a change, I think he'd tell me first' and it was fine."

Incorrect claims that three bookies had suspended betting regarding Redknapp taking over at Town were the trigger for the weekend speculation that the former Portsmouth and Spurs boss was set to take over at Portman Road.

Carlo88 - Karl Robinson with BFJ would be good, he had Gorman helping him previously at MK Dons so he would probably go with a number 2 with experience.

I still think hat paul is the man for the job but i do think things need to be turned around soon or it could be over for him.

Harry would have done a good job but marcus would need deep pockets for the transfers he would want. Also his wages.

Billy Davies would be my choice done well at forest and wasn't really backed by the board,so he would do well here with a small budget to play with.

As much as I am ready for a new start, I don't think ME/SG seems as eagre to replace PJ as we are, so for now all our fantasies of the next ITFC manager are as dead (at the moment) as ITFC's final day of the summer transfer window :(

Glad Harry cleared the air as pj doesnt deserve to get stitched up. Was never going to happen, Redknapp is in the big league not bottom of the championship.

Mick McCarthy!! Oh god please no!! The man has charisma of toilet roll and although a decent record of promotion, fans would be up in arms watching the football he would encourage. Not my cup of tea thanx.

Cant believe jewell is still here.if we get bad results from the next 2 games we have no choice but to get banners out for the cardiff game.a few bedsheets wouldnt go amiss aswell.
With the game on tv maybe this is the only way to get the message across to Evans.he cant ignore the whole lower Sir Bobby stand covered in Jewell out banners!

thebeat - I think you are being reasonable, fair, and correct in your suggestion - but you'll never get the resident 'satisfied charlies' to back you.

Even now, they still back Jewell - utterly bizarre!!.

Talbs77 thats cus they are too frightened to make a stand.they are happy to put up with utter rubbish all the time.im sick of it and theres plenty around where i stand feel the same.if even half of us pull together on this it would be worth it

Us 'satisfied charlies' have a bit more class than cheesy banners made out of mums bedsheets.

You should go to Ewood Park...you'd fit in fine up there!!

I never got excited by the Harry speculation because I heard he wanted a top job in England before the rumours went around. As much as I have been hacked of at Jewell and think he has made mistakes and talked nonsense at times I hope that he can turn it around because he seems a good bloke and I think if he started to do really well for us I think people would be quite proud to have him as a manager because of what he is like, he is much more warm than Keane and perhaps Magilton, even though Jim was great as a player for us. But please get things going PJ because I'm one of many who are getting more than a little fed up

Yeah I never believed Redknapp would come here, but unfortunately I think a few on here did (won't mention any names). Curbishley/Davies or an ex-player (Holland/Burley) will do.
Looks like the board will still give Jewell time (as said maybe til' November, hopefully no later)and reading the EADT this morning it looks like Stuart Watson is behind him too after comparing the records of him and Keane and the smaller tighter budget he has to work on - splitting hairs I think!

h32 I know theres too many satisfied customers at PR these days.if jewell told them to dip their head in a bucket of dog mess theyd probably do it!

Make a stand?? This is Portman Road, not the wild west!

Its a football club, not the OK Coral!!

pj isnt the anti christ.

Let's hope it not a draw saturday, if we lose jewell is gone if we win well he will survive another week at the most plus we get 3 points..... Pray its not a draw!!

for what hes doin to our club hes worse than the anti christ.hes a joke.but if u like a joke as ur clubs manager thats up to you.i would like an actual football manager who could teach a team how to defend properly in less than 20 months!

Talbs77 added 20:26 - Sep 27
Theres only 1 person I can think of whos a joke, and it isnt pj.

I'm a proud ITFC, have been for 25 years and will be the day I die. I realised a long time ago that properly supporting a club will involve highs and lows. Its what you have to accept if you want to be a real football supporter of your club.

You wont get high upon high season upon season unless you sell out and support Man Utd or somthing. Its called the rough with the smooth, ride out the hard times and savour the good times.

Bit daft asking him where the best places are to live in Suffolk, considering Jewell lives just north of Bradford

Does Harry Redknapp really have Paul Jewell's phone number?
