Town have confirmed that Hull City striker Aaron Mclean has also joined the Blues on loan until the end of the season.
Town boss Mick McCarthy has long been a fan of 29-year-old Mclean and tried to sign him from Peterborough when he was boss at Wolves.
Mclean, who had been set to join Millwall as recently as yesterday before the Blues matched the terms offered by the Lions, hasn't featured for the Tigers since the start of December and has scored three times this season. He is contracted until the summer of 2014.
The Hammersmith-born striker started his career with Leyton Orient, before dropping into non-league with Aldershot and then Grays, with whom he made his name. He joined Peterborough in 2006 and moved on to Hull in January 2011.
The signings of Mclean, who will wear the number 25 shirt while with the Blues, and McGoldrick would appear to suggest that DJ Campbell, whose loan spell from QPR ended earlier in the week, won't be returning to the club.
Town are yet to receive confirmation that the new signings are available for tomorrow's FA Cup tie at Aston Villa.

A new approach to the transfer market. Nothing on th horizon...Bang Bang. Here you go, here they are, deals all done. Well i never and how refreshing. What a difference MM makes. Must be some doubt over DJC & def JS?.
as someone said already MM doesnt mess about. signings in EARLY january and they look quality aswell. brilliant managemenrt from clegg evans and MM and obviously MM has alot more pulling power that jewell and keane
Can't see DJ coming back then & probably the end for Scotland, who I thought looked much the better of the 2 forward subs against Brighton. Also Chopra needs to impress big time against Villa otherwise he'll be on his way.
You would think the clubs will allow them to play at Villa really As they are both season long loans Unleash the new strike force Imagine McGoldrick and DJ together eh Yeah lets hope its not the end of DJ for us on this but Mick is right not to mess around and wait
Wow! I am personally VERY pleased with this. Watched him while he was with Posh on numerous occasions and he was ALWAYS bright, fast and influential.
My only tiny, little niggle is that I'd LOVE to see players of this calibre being signed on permanent contracts rather than just on loan. Having said this, I'd also much rather have McLean on loan than not at all.
These are definitely more optimistic times at Town and I, along with many, many others, feel that MM will prove to be a very good manager for us at what has been a very, very painful number of years in the wilderness.
Onwards and upwards - I can't wait to see McLean in action!!!
Well done Town - MM and all those involved in getting us such a decent player...
I will reserve judgement on whether these are "brilliant" signings McLean hasn't set the world alight for a while, hope MM can get the best from him. Certainly unexpected though. This may be heresy but I don't think PJ did too bad with a number of signings just struggled to get the best out of them for some reason and lost support. It is after all currently the PJ team but playing as a team. Interesting to see what happens now and who gets so play.
Just thought I'd check in as I do every lunchtime to see who we were being linked with, with no expectation of any signings for weeks and BOOM, two more in, another with potential on trial.
What's going on?
Someone really should explain to Mick that no-one wants to come to Ipswich and that they will only tell us that they don't want to come after we have wasted an entire transfer window chasing them.
Who else is starting to enjoy life as a Town fan again?
Even better when the budgies gain "nil points" over the festive season!! He who laughs last .....
Although still not happy with the loan situation, it has to be said that both of these signings are very good indeed! I suspect next season MM will not rely on too many loans - or at the very least ensure we have a squad of 18 permanent players first. However, as we know, this window is not a great time to do business and an bouyed by the fact neither of these are PJ style panic signings and are at least until the end of the season - with view to permanent moves. Also great to get in early!
Those of you who lambasted Simon Clegg in the past might be due a piece of humble pie as, since Mick McCarthy arrived, we have signed Barnett, Mings, Kisnorbo, McGoldrick and Mclean under the radar and with the minimum of fuss. Tends to suggest the problem might have been Paul Jewell. On the subject of DJ Campbell, maybe MM has given up on the possibility of a further loan but could still sign him on a free next season.
Strong striker with no lack of skill, hits it low with an eye for the inside of the post. Would be interesting to see how the 2 new big macs play together. Might need to pop open the paracetamol after watching this one though.
I'm pretty sure this was the player that Barry Fry was constantly issuing "hands off" warnings about when he played for Posh
His goalscoring record for Hull was awful last year (6 in 41 games) but it was excellent when he played for Peterborogh.Lets hope he can rediscover that form for us
what i like about this signing is only yesterday he was joining millwall, then joined us instead ,make a change from us losing out must be m.m they want to play for
Happy to see business being done in a no fuss manner. Mick is identifying weaknesses in the squad and taking care of it without the need to tell all and sundry. Well done all involved.
If anyone can get Mclean back on course - he is now playing for the right Manager & Co - to do so. He has certainly known where the net is - all be it in the 'not too distant' past.
