Martin Amongst Unwell Trio
Thursday, 4th Apr 2013 15:20

Boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that Lee Martin, Aaron Mclean and Reece Brown are all suffering with illness ahead of Saturday’s trip to Derby County.

McCarthy says there are no new injuries, just the trio suffering with the bug: “In terms of knocks, bumps and bruises they’re all OK, but Aaron Mclean and Reece Brown have trained today but weren’t right, so they’ve gone home with whatever pills they can take nowadays, probably paracetamol, and Lee Martin wasn’t in for similar reasons — ill.

“We’ll have to have to wait and see how they get on but everybody else trained, they were fine.”

Midfielder Andy Drury had a tight groin after the Leeds match and was left out of the 18 at Millwall but is now OK.

“He’s all right, he’s fine,” McCarthy added. “He was always going to be fine. If I’d asked him to play on Monday he would have played all right, but I wouldn’t have risked him.”

With Anthony Wordsworth having been back in training for more than a week, although not yet match fit, Paul Taylor, who underwent surgery on a foot injury early on in the season, remains the only player sidelined with injury.

The striker recently said he hoped to get back to action before the end of the campaign, but his manager is rather less confident: “No chance.”

Meanwhile, Derby will give striker Jamie Ward and midfielder Craig Bryson late fitness tests ahead of the game.

Ward, the Rams’ 12-goal top scorer, missed their 2-1 victory at Leeds on Monday with a hamstring problem, while Bryson went off in the first half with a groin injury.

Jamie Ward is a striker? I think he was a winger?

lee martin will be a big miss on sat has been important under MM and no Mcgoldrick now either.
Having said that i have confidence that tabb ot jet can do a job on the left and chops can step up alongside nouble or murphy COYB

I usually hate negativity but I am generally somewhat relatively content Martin won't feature- same time line up as we had at Leeds I say

Also I love Micks mock here "Go home an take whatever pills they can; probably paracetamol" probably a slight jab at the ridiculous strictness of drug tests disallowing many over the counter cold medicines. I keep trying to land myself a random drug test at work after a year long diet of Locketts and Strepsils in mind to be released from the hell and become Blackburns next clown (62days should be enough time for me to be eligible for job seekers allowance) but sadly they do not test me- just question why I have a technicolor dream tongue :(

@theobald1985. I thought McGoldrick was here for Saturday as his last of the season?

McGoldrick goes back to Forest AFTER Derby on saturday so hopefully he'll start. I'd have Tabb back in for Martin and Edwards back in for JET.

Garv, I think we still have McGoldrick for Saturday. I would think about him and Nouble with Nouble to put pressure on their keeper.

Alex, Ward does play on the flanks, but has been used as a striker, given Derby's lack of options. If I remember correctly, Connor Sammon, their one out and out first team striker (who isn't on loan - sic), has only 11 goals.

Martin must have been bangin' them in on the practice field...and then obviously wasn't feeling himself.

Sorry yes McGoldrick still with us for Saturday. McGoldrick to replace Murphy in my line up then, with Murphy replacing Martin on the bench.

We have to play McGoldrick whilst he's here.

As for Martin, he's had his chance, more than one, and he's blown it bigtime.

Time to move on, its a no brainer for me, play Jay Tabb on the flank every day of the week.

If mcgoldrick is going back after sat I would be tempted to leave Chopra on the bench so as to minimise his chance of injury. When mcgoldrick returns he will be the only genuine penalty box striker left available to us and best finisher. We can't afford for him to get injured

McGoldrick, Chopra
Tabb, Hyam, Drury, Edwards
Cresswell, Chambers, Smith, Stearman
Loach

If Martin was fit I would have him over Drury, I know he isn't popular here but I think he adds much needed quality to the midfield. JET could be a contender for a spot on the wing as could Nouble ahead of Chopra.

We have enough players in the squad now to be able to manage this. I'm gutted that McGoldrick is going back. Go out and put yourself on the market. If we stay up we can worry about this in the summer.

It's impossible to predict but I think we need 5 points. If we beat Derby we are almost there.
I would take a point now if I was offered. Come on lads!

Are they sick because of the endless winter there.

Agree with morgan and think Talbs77 need some glasses.
Martin is always selected by mick if fit and when his ban was over he was straight back in the team. He is of more value on the left than tabb and most people who know what they are talking about rate lee martin including mick.

I would leave mcgoldrick out and try ang get chops and nouble going together.
we will need them to do it for the rest of the season and they could be a good pair next season

This is a worry I think we need Martin's experience if we are going to avoid the drop.
