Taylor Apologetic and Relieved
Wednesday, 26th Jun 2013 10:05

Striker Paul Taylor says he’s relieved now his court case is over and is keen to get out on the pitch playing again after his lengthy absence due to a foot injury. The 25-year-old, who was yesterday handed a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to actual bodily harm, has apologised to the club, who have disciplined him and spoken to him regarding his future conduct.

Taylor told the club website: “It’s obviously been a worrying time, with the court case and I’m just relieved it’s all over.

“With my injury coming just a few weeks after I joined Ipswich, it was a really frustrating time for me.

“I made a mistake and I have apologised to the club. With the court case and my injury, it’s been a difficult six months or so but now I can move on.”

The former Peterborough man, who suffered the injury in only his third game after last August's £1.5 million move from Posh, is training with the rest of the Blues squad this week having continued his rehab through the summer.

“I’ve been working hard with the physio team and I’m just looking forward now to getting out on the pitch and playing some football again,” he added.

Joint-managing director Jonathan Symonds says Town have disciplined Taylor and that he has been talked to regarding his future behaviour: “Paul has been made aware of his responsibilities.

“He has apologised and has volunteered to take part in some community activities on behalf of the club.”

Good! Now perhaps we can start talking about football issues. As has already been said, it will be like signing a new player and he looked very promising in the 3 games he played, so good luck mate and make it happen on the pitch!

I'm sure it feels good to have it all behind you Paul, we all make errors of judgement, no-ones perfect. I saw you in one of your three games and you looked lively and a handful - looking forward to seeing you making up for lost time and sticking a load in this season

Only his third game was it!? Must have been the only player last season not to lose a game! There's always a silver lining Paul!!

I'm glad that this has been put to bed. I think this season Taylor is like a brand new signing, after his injury & this court case he probably felt like he had the world on his shoulders!! He can now hit the ground running & here's hoping that he'll be a revelation this season. Good luck Paul, COYB!!

I like that he's come out and said sorry to the club publicly. People make mistakes but if you're sorry for what you've done and it won't happen again then you can accept that.

It's the prats like Chopra who constantly offend everyone at the club, help him through his dark times and haven't seen one apology or thank you.

Keaneish - All his games were played under Jewell. Only Scott Loach's penalty save vs Huddersfield stopped him from being on the losing side in all of them.

I've never punched someone in the face, whether they've been asking me to leave a pub or not. He's a thug - simple as that. The only thing that's making it acceptable to some is he's an Ipswich player.

was speaking to a friend of mine who works on the Community projects mentioned and he was very complimentary about Taylor. Says he turns up with a great attitude and always happy to be there. Even sticks around to play headers and volleys with the kids at the end.
Hopefully learnt from his mistakes and turned over a new leaf. As others have said, will be like a new signing.

Sorry, I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge the victim of the attack, who has been unable to work since and would probably like nothing more than to put it all behind him! Sounds like as long as Taylor plays well, all is forgiven and forgotten. That just doesn't seem fair.

Apologised to the club! Hopefully he apologised to the bouncer.

The Bouncer made £7000 out of the situation. I am sure he is fine! I would imagine it is not the first or last time he will take a punch in his line of work but I am fairly confident its the only time he'll get compensation like that!

Taylor did wrong. No question about that but he has been punished and now we all need to move on. If he gets himself in trouble again then he deserves the book thrown at him but for now, lets support him and hope he has learnt from his mistakes.

I hope the talk that Jonathan Symonds had with him explained that in his short time with town he's tainted the name of our beloved club and this will not be tolerated again.
I'm sure we as fans will give him a chance to redeem himself with performances on the pitch, additional work in the community and showing that he appreciates being given a chance.

JWM added 12:35 - Jun 26
He should never be allowed to play football for us ever again as far as I'm concerned.

MathieandMarshall added 12:39 - Jun 26
JWM- please explain?

Are you suggesting any player how embarrasses himself/his club should be struck off? there would be hardly any pros left!! :)

BlueVelvet added 12:40 - Jun 26
Once a fighter, always a fighter. Now fight your way back into the team, and if you have a spare Sat afternoon this season perhaps you'd come and cut my grass as part of your community work while Im down PR. Keep off the juice and get to bed before 4am and you should stand a chance of playing football this season

MathieandMarshall I thought it was quite easy to understand what I said! I am quite amazed that some of you guys just accept what he did in a such a casual manner. We can't expect to have angels but at least we can expect that anyone who is employed by Ipswich Town FC to show decent behaviour when they are off duty. A sorry is all very well but its the poor victim that has had to deal with the consequences. I don't feel comfortable with having a convicted thug playing football for ITFC - that is all.

Bugleboy added 13:03 - Jun 26
JWM, "the poor victim" were you there to hear what sparked it all off. I know in the past doormen have laid into people for no reason at all just so they could have a punch up. If you're not comfortable having a convicted thug playing for ITFC go and get a £1 season ticket up the road and support the scum. Be great to see Taylor back on the pitch COYB's.

muhrensleftfoot added 13:17 - Jun 26
There's no excuse for his behaviour. However he has apologised, & let's hope it is sincere. There is nothing to be gained by sacking a recent £1.5m signing, only for him to sign & star for some other club. I for one, hope he terrorizes a few defenses this season and bangs in a load of goals.

NITFC added 13:22 - Jun 26
I hope he has learned a lesson and can now put all of his efforts into performing for Ipswich Town.

There has been a lot of stuff written on here about our signings for this season but having Paul Taylor back is like a new signing in itself. From the small amount we saw from him last season (Middlesborough away was amazing), he should be the best of the lot
