O'Driscoll: A Long Way to Go on JET Deal
Monday, 1st Jul 2013 13:28

Bristol City manager Sean O’Driscoll says there’s a long way to go on the proposed swap deal which would see Jay Emmanuel-Thomas join the Robins and 24-year-old winger Paul Anderson move to the Blues.

"It's all come from the Ipswich end really. It's a long way from bearing fruit. There's work to be done," O’Driscoll told City’s official Twitter.

"We got approached to take Emmanuel-Thomas. I had him [on loan] at Doncaster. The discussions are around financials."

Weekend reports from the West Country claimed the ex-Arsenal man was due at Ashton Gate for talks today and we understand that he wasn't in the Town party which travelled to Ireland this morning.

The 22-year-old is said to be willing to take what is likely to be a significant pay cut to join the League One side.

Meanwhile, O’Driscoll has revealed that ex-Doncaster midfielder Martin Woods is training with the Robins.

Woods, who played for Blues boss Mick McCarthy at Sunderland, was also reported to have been offered the chance to spend time with Town during pre-season.

MM likes round pegs in round holes, and consistent performers. So personnel wise seems likely.
But it could be down to JET. How much is he willing to drop? Sounds like wages might still prove a stumbling block.

Lets hope this doesn't happen. I personally want JET to stay. 1 more season to show us he can really cut it.

I like JET.
And I like Anderson.
But which one is better.
There's only one way to find out ...

... leave it to Mick.

Yeah I like jet too, just hope we keep him & he can really show us what he can do.
Not really sure on Anderson is he really any better than jet?!!

Surely long haul is more appropriate.

To virtually give away a player that cost £1.5m and can still have big potential seems bad. Personally i'd rather we just paid Chopra's wages off instead.

I think JET will receive a substantial signing on fee, probably handed over by ITFC

So he'd take a pay cut to join Bristol City, would he take a pay cut to stay? Spread his last year wages over 2 years or something like that - or make some bonuses or whatever...

Like Michael11 said - £1.5 million on potential and he's leaving for pretty much free.

What a joke!

I would be really surprised if he wants to takes a pay cut and drop down a league to play regular football. He just doesn't seem the type and at times last year proved the he wasn't that bothered. It was only when Mick gave him a public slating that he started to sort himself out!

Maybe he feels he hasn't got the support from his manager, but personally I think he will always be a player who never lives up to his potential and Mick has got him sussed.

If the stories are true and he is willing to take a pay cut it just goes to prove he is only interested in life after a game or training and lets be honest the nightlife in Bristol is far superior to Ipswich

Just go please!!

Oh what a surprise , and Ipswich player is on high wages that no other club is willing to pay. No wonder we are looking to get rid of so many of these "stars"!

floridaboy ..if he is willing to take a pay cut and drop down a league to play football surely that means he does want to play ? Otherwise he could do the same as Chopra and stay put not playing getting more money .
Would personally rather we keep him ,need some flair in the squad

I can see this one dragging on. Unless JET takes a really massive pay cut, then I simply cant see Bristol affording his wages.

....... such a good player, I don't see too many opening all those doors he thought there would be - as yet anyway.

This has to be a wake up and knuckle down season for the so called JET - whoever he plays for.
Doubt Wenger is losing any sleep !!

what is the point of giving him away? he only had 10 starts and we spent 90% of the season in the bottom 5.

or it could be MM showing him the alternatives if he doesn't buck his ideas up.

hate to say it but unfortunately he is, in my opinion, the only player in our team with any flair. It seems crazy to let one of our most creative players go when it's an area we are really struggling in. Shaping up to be a very boring side next year.

whats up with you people who are saying wed be giving him away? get a grip. when jet was made available for transfer, mm &me would have set a price they thought right to allow him to leave. this would no doubt have been much lower than what we paid for him due to him not performing to that price tag. they would then, having identified Anderson as a target, have put a value on him as to what we willing to pay to sign him. this clearly being much the same in value, weve muted a straight swap. so how are we giving him away?

blues1 - ..... you're obviously not up with the latest - get a grip !

yes h32 I a very much up with the latest. but I am commenting on this story not the latest one. and even that story has no suggestion that wed be giving him away. or cant you read?

JET just doesn't seem like a McCarthy type of player, not consistent and doesn't track back enough, although he did improve on that at the end of the season. However I agree with others that he will probably always perform under his potential. Not seen much of Anderson but lets not judge the guy before we have seen him play.

You can't have a squad full of Jay Tabbs. You need the odd wildcard.
