Palace Made Cresswell Move Monday, 19th Aug 2013 23:09 Town are understood to have turned down a bid from Crystal Palace for left-back Aaron Cresswell.
The offer, believed to be in the region of £3 million, is understood to have come before the Eagles added former Bordeaux left-back Florian Marange to their squad at the end of last week, a move which is likely to have ended their interest in the 23-year-old.
The newly-promoted side were first mentioned in connection with Cresswell in June, while a number of other clubs, including Fulham, Southampton, Wigan and Aston Villa, who made an enquiry last summer, were also been linked during the close season.
Cresswell, who is contracted to Town until June 2015, joined the Blues from Tranmere at the end of his terms at Prenton Park in the summer of 2011.
Rovers are entitled to 20% of the profit Town would make on the £420,000 they paid for the Liverpudlian if he is sold. A Football League tribunal set a compensation figure of an initial £240,000 plus milestone clauses with only a £100,000 payment on promotion to the Premier League not triggered.
Town boss Mick McCarthy recently said that Cresswell is "the best left-back in the Championship".
Meanwhile, former Blues midfielder Tommy Miller, 34, has joined League Two Bury on a one-year deal having left Swindon at the end of last season.

keep him here at ipswich, if he is the best left back in the league why sell him for around 3 or 4 million which we are going to waste, if we want to try and get up the table you need to keep hold of your strongest players!

So surely now is the time to offer him a better & longer contract - so at least then we can hold out for a little more if he is to leave. However, more worrying to me, if he is to be sold (and should we hold him back if we are not going to improve as a team), how much of his fee, if any, will MM get to spend on a new face or two?

Couldn't give a stuff if you don't like my view on this. I'm as frstrated as the rest of you that Town will yet again sell the crown jewells.

I think it's fairly clear, from Mick's words and from this leak (I assume from the club), that Mick wants the cash and quickly so we can strengthen elsewhere and I agree. Cresswell is OK, but we can replace him and strengthen in other areas.

Don't do it Aaron! Look what happened to Wickham, played we for us, moved for big bucks and is now one of the most overrated English u21's there is.

Sell him & use the money on a goalscorer

If we can achieve a minimum of £5m and aslong as the money is put back into the team then I believe we should sell. I'm old enough now to remember that selling K Dyer financed our promotion; we sold for £6m and was able to bring in players like John McGreal, Marcus Stewart and Jermaine Wright, who were at the time considered the best CB, CMF & CF in the league at the time. It also financed Jim Magilton's permanent move from Sheff Weds. Ahhh good times!

If you listened to Ian Holloway on the radio on Saturday, he said its all lazy journalism, as he has no need for any full backs at the moment.

I would not be very happy If we sold this talented young man, COYB.

The reality is that clubs like Ipswich will always have to sell to not only survive, but perhaps to prosper. I not saying we should sell in panic as that was all too often the problem in the past, but if a sale at the RIGHT price is on the cards and that money can be re-invested (as Mr Evans post points out) then it could be best for the club and us. The whole point of going to Cat 1 Academy status is to produce talent at minimal cost that can not only drive the club forward but could ultimately be used to finance it.

I think that if we are miles away from the play-offs at Christmas time he will go then.

Not a problem as long as we get a big enough transfer fee. 4 million in cash now plus a sell on clause and that would represent good business.

Even if selling Cresswell raised £4-5m i doubt very much whether ME would give MM a penny of it to spend!

If they offer £5m we should sell

Cresswell is far too good for Crystal Palace. If Baines goes to Man Utd then he'd be a perfect replacement for Everton but i hope it doesn't happen.

No point in investing the money in a goal scorer if you have no one then to feed him
