Hunt Training With Town
Wednesday, 25th Sep 2013 11:50

TWTD understands that former Wolves winger Stephen Hunt is spending this week training with Town at Playford Road. Hunt, 32, is a free agent having left Molineux in the summer.

Ireland international Hunt is a player Mick McCarthy was interested in signing early in the summer, but we understand that the midfielder is currently only with the Blues to keep fit, a move to Blackpool recently having broken down due to his wage demands.

McCarthy took Hunt to Molineux from Hull City for £3 million in August 2010 and he was a regular in his side for the next two seasons.

The ex-Crystal Palace, Brentford and Reading man missed much of last season due to calf and hernia problems before returning to action in March but couldn’t prevent his former club from plummeting into League One.

Earlier today, Hunt's former Wolves team-mate Sylvan Ebanks-Blake was again linked with a move to Portman Road.

Oh dear. Would happily take Ebanks-Blake but not so sure on Hunt. Saw Paul Ince saying that he tried to sign him at Blackpool last week but he wanted ridiculous wages. The only plus I can see to this is that if he does look good then he adds some natural width. After going to Wigan on Sunday it was painfully obvious that we need natural wide players. I really like Tunnicliffe and he played very well but he's not playing in his natural position.

Never been this guy's biggest fan, if I'm honest. I find myself wondering if he'd actually have the right attitude for our club at this stage of his career.

I'd have Ebanks-Blake, but I'm not overly keen on this one.

Not too keen on Hunt but McCarthy knows him and will see him in training, so will trust in Micks judgement and his call on him, in mick we trust!

I wouldn't be keen on a long term deal but a short time deal would be beneficial

Ebanks-Blake and Hunt would be good editions to the team, Come on guys we could have em on a free. Get them on contract til January and if they perform they get a deal.

Also unlike the days of Jimmy Bullard (Yes another bad hair do) put in the new contract an appearance fee so if they keep playing well they will get in the team. truthfully all players should have this as they would have to play well for the team.

With having the team as follows I could see us dominate for once:

Loach
Chambers Berra Smith Cresswell
Robinson Skuse Tabb Hunt
McGoldrick Ebanks Blake

Subs
Gerken
Elliott
Hyam
Taylor
Murphy
Wordsworth
Edwards

Even gives up completion for Tunnicliffe, Vaselli, Mings Nouble and Marriot.

In a slightly different note I cant believe david bentley is still a free agent!! He is a decent winger and would walk the championship. Spose his wage demands would be beyond us tho, but who knows. Been without a club since the summer. He can def deliver from out wide and set plays!!!

I am not sure about this. I thought we were building a club for the next 2 years. This reminds me of Bullard.

Now there s a player that made a difference.

The real question is how can you mistake Anderson for Robinson?

To be honest i think Jay Tabb has been unlucky to be left out and don't see Hunt as an improvement on Tabb. Also Wordsworth hasn't had a fair crack at the whip yet. This is the sort of signing that would unsettle the dressing room. Hope it he just here to get fit.

Paul Ince had him on trial at Blackpool recently and was keen to sign him up but Hunt allegedly asked for £13k a week and they were offering £5k a week and he turned it down!
