Marriott Nets Twice as U21s Draw With Swans
Monday, 4th Nov 2013 15:57

Jack Marriott scored twice as Town’s U21s drew 2-2 at Swansea this afternoon with all the goals coming in the first half.

The Blues went behind to Rory Donnelly’s goal within the first five minutes, but Marriott struck back on 24, stabbing home during a goalmouth scramble.

Swansea went back in front via Lee Lucas after Town keeper Michael Crowe had dropped a Kriss Scott cross. But moments before the break Marriott lashed in his second of the game from 20 yards.

In the second half, Liam Shephard hit the post for the Swans, then with a quarter of an hour remaining Marriott came close to completing his hat-trick, rounding keeper Gregor Zabret, but Swansea captain Scott Tancock prevented the ball from crossing the line.

Afterwards the striker tweeted: "Good 2-2 draw away at Swansea, nice to get another two goals as well. Long journey back though."

The Blues included trialist Eoin Wearen in their starting line-up. The 21-year-old Irish U17 and U19 international Wearen is a centre-half or central midfield player who was released by West Ham in the summer without breaking into the senior side, having joined them from St Kevin’s Boys in Dublin in 2008.

A keen Gaelic footballer as a youngster, Wearen spent time on loan at Dagenham and Redbridge in 2011/12, making one start and three sub appearances.

U21s: Crowe, Emmanuel, Timlin, Berkane, Wearen, M Clarke, Doherty, Lawrence (c), Marriott, Winter, Adekunle. Subs: Marsden, Galvin, Bishop, G Clarke.

Roy Keane, Paul Jewell, amd MM all walked this division with attacking football, loads of goals and loads of points. So what is wrong with our club?

Give him time. Like i've said before, we don't want another Dean Bowditch/Josh Carson situation where it's too much, too soon. I think he will be excellent for us in the next year or two but don't pin all our hopes on an 18 year old. Get him out on loan for the season somewhere and get to grips of what it's like to play week in, week out, then we'll benefit more.

Got to agree with most of the posts on here, granted its much harder in the 1st team than what is really the stiffs, but c,mon Mick, he must be worth a punt.

Whats this guy gotta do to get a chance in the first team?? Micj has admitted it himself that he is a fox in the box type player who has that knack of getting goals, if thats the case mick, put him in the squad atvkeast and then bring him on!!! Its as if your content with draws over throwing jack into the mix. Better than no goals nouble!!! Oh but your happy to stick with him tho arent you

Jack deserves a chance from the bench, not just the final 10 minutes though!!

Sorry but their is a chasm of difference between the under 21s and Championship football. I'm all for him being on the bench if required but throwing him to the lions from the start could do more harm than good. Jack is still growing and a little lightweight for the rigours of the Championship. Be patient his time will come if he continues to impress. Mick putting him on the bench indicates to me he is clearly in his thoughts and is definitely one for the future. I seem to remember people calling for Byron Lawrence to play under Jewell when he was nowhere near ready.

We can remonstrate all we like, but mcCarthy is not going to play him. He will be lucky to get on the bench. One of the main reasons I do not rate the man at all.

mm will not play anything but percentage football no flaire or guile this team isnt going anywere dour and negative tactics will be our staple diet i thank him for last season but i wish he would leave players like marriot, wordsworth, taylor could actually get people down to portman rd but there is little chance of mm playing them it is gettin v depressing and im already prefering anyone else except roy keane

Although it would be great to see him get some game time soon we all have to ask the question, why?
Murphy and McGoldrick have got 10 between them so far and are playing relatively well together.

A role off the bench maybe instead of Nouble but never a start surely??

This ^ is just what we should have tried against Barnsley as they hadn't even managed a point away beforehand. Get on the front foot and attack.
