O'Neill and Keane Sign Contracts
Tuesday, 5th Nov 2013 20:53

The FAI have confirmed that Martin O’Neill and former Blues boss Roy Keane have put pen to paper on their contracts as the manager and assistant manager of the Republic of Ireland. The duo are understood to have agreed two-year initial deals.

“[The FAI] can confirm that both contracts have been signed. Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane will be Ireland's new manager and assistant manager,” a tweet announced.

Mick McCarthy had been tipped to return to the job he occupied between 1996 and 2002 but the FAI made no approach regarding the current Town manager.

Keano's ego will never allow him to work with somebody else for long.

Just think, what would've happened if Keane had been manager and O'Neil assistant??
I feel sorry for the Irish.

I can't believe that some people on here are implying that MM is worse than RK!! Sounds to me as though they were half way through having a brain transplant and the hospital suffered a power cut!!

Although grateful for what Mick has done last season his tactical rigidity has caused us a lot of problems this year and it's not good to watch at all. He has set some good strong foundations but with the way we play under him I'm not too sure how much further he can take us. The likes of Anderson and Murphy I cannot see getting in any team in the top 10 of the championship (Anderson couldn't get in a team that was relegated last season) and I know everyone says we're in a much better position this year than last year. but if you take away the individual bits of brilliance from McGoldrick where would we actually be?

I really am starting to wonder about our fans. "Mick's play is boring, at least with RK it wasn't so bad" implying Keane was better.

"Mick to Palace and Mowbray to Ipswich" is the funniest one i've seen

Jesus wept some of you are negative, talk about unrealistic expectations!

Certainly we have lacked polish and positivity in our last few games and Mick needs to shake things up. However, the first sniff of a valid complaint in the year he's been here and some of you start calling for his head! Lunacy.

Now is not the time to judge whether Mick has taken us as far as he can. I share the concern, but at the very very least give him another transfer window to build his team. His record with Sunderland and Wolves would suggest he's more than capable of getting us out of this division, so it's pretty moronic to panic after a couple of lukewarm performances.

Worse than Keane? The stupidest comment I've read on here for some time.

No mm is quite clearly not worse than Roy Keane , but a lot of us are not that convinced by his mind being made up for him in the ROI fiasco , he kept us up last year but that does not give him the untouchable status some of you grant him . Loyalty works both ways mick.

Yeah i mean Keane was brilliant, It would have been more use to get god knows how many million of pounds he wasted and had a bloody great bonfire, plus don't even get me started on the whole Jordan Rhodes debarcle!

It because of Keane/Jewell that Evans tightened the purse strings and we are in the position that we are looking at bargain basement freebies and Mick has his hands tied!

why didn't they appoint MM as well?

It is quite clear that those calling for MMs head would have the same desire whoever was manager. If this site had existed in 1961 they would have wanted Sir Alf out and in 1978 the cry would have been "Robson out".
When Mick goes how long will it be before they want his successor out?
Far too much moaning and not enough support for the Club (which includes the manager).
If Jim Magilton had been left to get on with the job we would have reached the Premier League before now.

Mick has just said he is not interested in the Irish job and has asked journalists to stop asking silly questions about it.

He has fully committed himself to getting ITFC into the top half of the table.

Hmmm...both O'Neill and Keane are very opinionated and have quite big egos...can't see this partnership lasting long.

Only thing that bugs me about mm is that when he came here he said about square pegs round holes and it being simple play the right players in their position well what is he doing we need two wingers or just put Edwards on the right Anderson is just awful get a left winger play one CDM not two and play two of Berra smith chambers not all three.this is simple stuff and if you go to games you will see that we are so weak down each flank which causing all are play to be long ball to murphy on his own as mcgoldrick has had to drop so deep to pick up a pass any town fan that's happy with this play should be ashamed no good defending for 80mins then letting a goal in and saying we played terrific

Laughable folk on here this week - must be halloween or Guy Fawkes - breathing in too much Smoke effect
This time last year 5-0 and 6-0 defeats are a long way way away
Is it perfect , of course not
Is it better than last year - YES !!!
Do we have the same resources - overseas owners , recent premiership experience ? NO
MM is building - Some people live in the X factor generation of instant success
I would rather sit here today than be at Palace like I was last year watching them thrash us
We have some good young players coming through
The only thing I will say is please leave Nouble in the Car Park each week
Play JACK MARRIOTT
COYB
And the people who think Keane days were good - just talk to afew folk at the club
What a complete NxB Jockey he was

Who has said on here that the Keane days were good? - we're still waiting for a manager to get us up in the top half of the table (not much to ask) since Magilton was here - how times have changed at this club.

Always reckon that one of the jobs of the assistant manager is to put his arm around a player lacking confidence and give a bit of positive encouragement, can't see Keane doing that. Both O'Neill and Keane have managed - one with far more success than the other - but neither are true coaches.
No doubt in my mind as to who has got the better pair in charge - give me MM and TC any day.

I've suggested this before. Phil & Gav get everyone to apply again to become members on this Fanzine (see what I did there? Deliberate reference to "Fan"?) but apply a once off payment of £3 or £4 which you will forward directly to a local charity which supports ("supports" geddit?) Ipswich specific local needs and interests. This will weed out the likes of Kalypso, ChrisMakin2012 and a number of other non-supporting contributors. The genuine, but moany ITFC fans (who simply love to berate our manager) wont have a problem with a charitable contribution to a local good cause but you can bet someone from a certain dive up the road will not under any circumstances want to put their good money into an Ipswich cause, no matter how worthy.

Problem solved. Back to supporting Ipswich Town FC.

People make many different comments ," Sack MM " , "play MArriot" etc. This does not mean they don't support Ipswich they just want the best for the team. They maybe right or wrong! But are allowed to their view. I think MM did a great job in keeping us up and performed some miracles in the transfer window he will stabilize the club and give it a good chance of getting in the top 6 given time. On the minus side the last game was the worst game of football I have seen by any team for ages ( I live abroard so don't get to see Ipswich much). Will the fans who pay good money to watch a style that will not change under MM keep going to the games If the last match is what we produce week in week out then I am not sure I would want to pay to watch it no mater what the result was.

The reason both have been given manager jobs is because of being both from a Brian Clough team, so you would hope some of his genius would rub off, obviously not in RK's case, jury is out on MO.

dubblue added 16:24 - Nov 6
Let's hope O'Neill lasts longer than his time at Carrott Road and Keano is more successful than he was at Portman Road.

Not overly happy with Town's performance this season - when you compare it with MM's record with Town last season, but people calling for him to go now are talking rubbish!
