Hewitt Joins Gills
Wednesday, 13th Nov 2013 16:09

Blues right-back Elliott Hewitt has joined League One Gillingham on a month's loan. The 19-year-old hasn't featured for Town since dropping out of the side after the home defeat to Leeds at the end of August.

The Wales U21 international is set to remain at the Priestfield Stadium until December 14th but with Town having a 24-hour recall option after the first 28 days.

Hewitt is ineligible for the Gills' FA Cup first round replay against Brackley Town but the Blues are yet to decide whether he would be able to feature if they reach the second round where they are due to face his former side Macclesfield.

Gillingham boss Peter Taylor is in need of defensive cover with Michael Harriman away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland U21 squad and with League One matches continuing during the international break.

Hewitt has made seven starts and five sub appearances since joining the Blues from the Silkmen for an initial £250,000 in the summer of 2012.

I believe he's good enough for us and this league, but since he hasn't been playing this is an excellent move to loan him out so he can gain regular first team action and hopefully prove himself to Mick. Plus we don't need to worry about cover as we still have Veseli. Hopefully comes back even better.

we have not had a right back cross the half way line since he has been out of the side. Chambers is not the answer , we need a cresswell mark 2. The best right back in our league plays for burnley ,class act .

Pob Lwc Hewitt! good luck at Gillingham, will do him good, doing well in the Wales U21's as well so all this will help his progression, although I would also prefer him not to be cup tied. Hewitt has the potential to be a big player in Ipswich's future :)

So we can recall him from December 11th? Awesome.

So Martin Allen, who didn't rate any of the Ipswich players preseason, decides to bring in Hewitt? :-

@Bluefeast - Chambers scored from right back from a Cresswell cross against Middlesbrough. Pretty sure he was over the halfway line when he scored it.

Bluefeast - Chambers scored a far post header against Millwall and it wasn't from a corner so that's a lie!

Well happy with this signing for my beloved Gills !! Being based up here in Kesgrave,I've seen and read a lot about Hewitt, mostly saw him last season, decent prospect and well thought of !! It's good that he's come to 'us' Gills for some games, we have Sheffield Utd away on Saturday.

Just for your info Casanova,we sacked Martin Allen about a month ago,Peter Taylor is our manager !!

Welcome Elliott

he's young so plenty of time
I do think he's better as a midfield player to be honest
good luck and hope he gets some games
him and Jack are the future for us
no more Jordan mistakes etc
good luck son

my going past the half way line comment was a metaphoric. Fact is Chambers is not an attacking/raiding full back. We need one .

feel though this is a good move for him.
However, with cresswell still suspended and tommy smith probably not back in time for the next game..I hope we dont pick up any defensive injuries!

Glass half full view: But isn't it nice that we are loaning players out as other clubs want them, rather than loaning players in? This is in just one year. I know results this season have not been spectacular, but I think the club is moving forward much faster off the field.

Really hope this a turning point for him as at the moment as he is not good enough to play in our first team. He is OK going forward but he does not tackle and has not even shone in the under 21s matches. The Leeds match showed how out of his depth he is and this move will help get him back to what we all hope for. As for Vaselli have you seen him play - sorry an honest opinion but he is nowhere near good enough. Good luck Elliott.

Smith away travelling round the world in a week so unlikely to be ready for Leicester. So Chambers moves in leaving a space for a right back.

Do we
a. Play right winger Carlos out of position
b. Move our holding midfielder to right back
c. Play our young and upcoming right back who has looked the part in all appearances to date.

Has to be C, but Oh, hang on...........

Expecting lots of minus clicks but come on, this guy deserves better. An ideal opportunity wasted
