Hewitt Joins Gills
Wednesday, 13th Nov 2013 16:09

Blues right-back Elliott Hewitt has joined League One Gillingham on a month's loan. The 19-year-old hasn't featured for Town since dropping out of the side after the home defeat to Leeds at the end of August.

The Wales U21 international is set to remain at the Priestfield Stadium until December 14th but with Town having a 24-hour recall option after the first 28 days.

Hewitt is ineligible for the Gills' FA Cup first round replay against Brackley Town but the Blues are yet to decide whether he would be able to feature if they reach the second round where they are due to face his former side Macclesfield.

Gillingham boss Peter Taylor is in need of defensive cover with Michael Harriman away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland U21 squad and with League One matches continuing during the international break.

Hewitt has made seven starts and five sub appearances since joining the Blues from the Silkmen for an initial £250,000 in the summer of 2012.

Surprised Gillingham need him, what with their better team than ours?! At least that clown Martin Allen isn't there now. I think Hewitt's been really unlucky not to play more. I love Mick, but can't help think he's moved everybody about just to accommodate his mate Berra.

You will not get a minus from me 'cromwellblue' , don't worry about them , I get them all the time by the bucket load , mainly because I do not view every mm decision as a masterstroke. This one included.

Can someone tell me when we clearly are mid table for this duration we need to pass our future potential out on loan rather than give them opportunity at Ipswich.

Cromwellblue - I can see what your saying but we didn't do too bad Saturday without him. Taking one of the holding midfielders away sets us up to be more attack minded with the players we have available.

Pip50 - certainly old bean - we have loaned this young player out for a month in which he will pick up more experience and match fitness, which is the main thing he lacks. He has not been sold and hopefully will be with us for sometime, and as much as i rate him he was at fault for two or three goals early in the season, probably down to lack of experience , as he has made a big jump from Macclesfield to ITFC.
I do agree with the point made by others that it could backfire if we get any injuries in the next couple of games, but we are fairly well covered at RB with Chambers, Edwards, Skuse and Veseli all able to play there.

Interesting decision, but with Chambers, Skuse and Edwards who can play there, this seems like a good idea. Hewitt needs games and playing regularly will do him no harm.

Actually think this is a good decision...we have players who as mentioned above can play in that position so no harm done. Hopefully will be a better player for the league 1 experience.

Edwards for right back in a 4-3-3. Done.

Chambers back in the centre eventually pairing up again with Smith.

I would love this guy to be playing right now & think we need his pace & attacking ability up the right flank. However, don't forget Beckham was loaned out to Preston at the same age, he came back better & stronger. I predict Hewitt will be a top class right-back with a good career ahead of him at PR for years to come. But right now he needs competitive league experience. Good work MM.
