Marriott Better Off at Woking
Friday, 6th Dec 2013 15:04

Manager Mick McCarthy says first-year professional Jack Marriott is better off staying and playing with loan club Woking rather than returning to Portman Road and being on the fringes of the first team squad. Yesterday, the Blues agreed to extend the 19-year-old's spell with the Cards until January 2nd.

McCarthy says he was happy to allow Marriott — who scored four in four during his first month — to remain at the Kingfield Stadium: “I’ve got a 24-hour recall. He’s playing at Woking, he’s playing against teams in the Skrill Premier and he’s not playing here.

“I want him to have more experience and I’ve got him to come back at the drop of a hat, 24-hour recall.

“If I brought him back, I might stick him on the bench, I wouldn’t play him. He’s better off playing there. That’s my view, and I’m going to watch him on Tuesday night [at home to Kidderminster Harriers] myself.”

With Marriott absent and Paul Taylor out with a shoulder injury, former Huddersfield striker Alan Lee could come on to the bench against his old club on Saturday.

Woking and Marriott are in action at Halifax on Saturday afternoon, while young left-back David October and his loan club Histon are facing Stalybridge Celtic in the Skrill North at the Glassworld Stadium.

So what exactly has he got to do , score 8 in the next 4 ? How long has he go to wait ? Another couple of years when he is the same age as Nouble is now and then he will be told he is too inexperienced , that will be because mcCarthy hasn't given him any !!

let the manager manage his squad. He knows more than us , example i would of subbed Nouble after 20 mins on Tuesday.MM left him on and he scored and also improved as the game went on.We think we know it all ,but we know far lesss than the manager.COYB ,i feel a draw is on the cards tmrw. That would make 10 from 15.

If Jack gets 10 plus games under his belt it will help. Think we might see the rewards of this towards the end of the season. He may turn out to be the ace up MM sleeve.

@ irishtim or he might think it's best to move on to another club. He hasn't signed that new contract offer yet perhaps he is pondering whether it might be best to leave it and keep his options open. Couldn't blame Jack for thinking like that.

Players need to learn their trade playing competitive matches, so it's absolutely right that Marriott is out on loan. We have a 24-hour recall clause should we need him in an injury crisis, but in the meantime he isn't going to get ahead of McGoldrick, Murphy, Nouble and Taylor. My only slight disappointment is that Marriott dropped to such a low level, but that may not be as important as just getting competitive action.

Hopefully if he continues to do well at Woking, a League 1 or 2 club will come in for him in January and he can gradually work his way up the leagues on loan until he is ready to play a role for us next season at some point.

What is he going to learn at ths level, I suppose the same as Suarez does playing Norwich knowing where the goal is, but this doesn't make him a better player. He needs to be involved with this squad for crying out loud. Perhaps he needs to go via Wolves!

...... hope I'm wrong - but my prediction is that we have another potential Rhodes situation here - and Jack will be elsewhere next season on a decent contract. Prove me wrong MM - PLEASE.

Blueboy don't worry about other people liking what you say if its your opinion , put it down and never mind what people think of it . Personally I am glad they don't like what I have to say because I certainly don't agree with them either.

Blueboy- you should know by now that any criticism of MM will be minused on here….There's too many who'll just put up with anything this man does. Probably unable to think for themselves..

Feel this will eventually sting us. Marriott has the potential to be an excellent striker.
