Taylor and Loach Available for Transfer
Friday, 2nd May 2014 14:58

Town boss Mick McCarthy has made striker Paul Taylor and goalkeeper Scott Loach available for transfer, says Sylvan Ebanks-Blake won’t be staying beyond the end of his short-term contract and will make decisions on the futures of Stephen Hunt, Paul Green and Frazer Richardson later in the summer.

Taylor, a £1.5 million signing from Peterborough in the summer of 2012, is contracted for another year, while Loach, brought in from Watford for £150,000 earlier in that close season has another year remaining on his deal and Town will circulate their availability to other clubs.

“Paul Taylor will be going, he’s not going to play for me, so we might as well clear that up,” McCarthy confirmed. “Quite clearly, he’s not my type, he’s not going to play, he’s going to go somewhere else.

“I’ve spoken to them both, they know full well what the picture is. Loachy, to be fair, wants to play and there’s only one position.

“Tayls isn’t my type, I’m afraid, just not my style. I’ve not fallen out with him, I’ve just said to him, ‘I’ve not fallen out with you, you’ve not fallen out with me but you’re not going to play for me. You want to play, so let’s cut to the quick and do something about it. Let’s stop pissing about with it. Let’s crack on'.”

Former Wolves men Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Stephen Hunt joined on short-term deals midway through the season with the striker having rarely featured having struggled for fitness.

“Sylvan won’t be staying,” McCarthy said. “Hunty, I’ve spoken to Hunty and I won’t be doing anything with Hunty straight away.

“We’ve got about 18 of the lads who have been here all season coming back [in the summer] and I’ve got Tabby and Ando still in wide areas.

“Hunty’s been fabulous, he makes things happen, his personality’s great and I’m not writing him off completely, but I’m not just going to be doing anything with him on Monday morning.”

He says the situation is the same with loanees Paul Green and Frazer Richardson, who are out of contract with parent clubs Leeds and Middlesbrough respectively this summer.

“Exactly the same set of circumstances, but it cuts both ways,” he added. “If I was to make them all an off that wasn’t the right offer, then they’d say ‘Tell you what, we’ll hang about and see what else comes along’.

“We’re all doing it, we’re all dancing round our handbags seeing what’s going to happen and we’ll make a decision.

“But those guys, they have been outstanding. Hunty, his personality and the work he does, Frazer and Greeny, coming in on loan, Jonny Williams. Brilliant. They’ve been really good pros.”

He says there's no point the club paying wages to those players during the close season and also limiting his options: “What I don’t want to do is queer my pitch for loan deals with Premier League players.

"If you think of the quality of Jonny Williams coming in, if we could get a couple like that, not necessarily his position, wherever they might be playing, then I think that’s going to help us.”

The Town squad will be back for the start of pre-season training on June 26th and 27th to undergo tests and assessment before the preparations for 2014/15 start in earnest on the following Monday.

The Blues will again spend time at Carton House in County Kildare before playing their opening friendly against Shelbourne at Tolka Park in Dublin on Saturday 12th July.

Not surprised about Taylor or Loach, but what is the reason for Ebanks-Blake going? Wage demands that are too high? A shame as I hoped he would remain for the long(er) haul.

Of course Mick does not like Taylor, he is a player with technical ability. Don´t get me wrong, I think McCarthy has done a good job here, but sometimes I wish he would acknowledge that a team need some attacking qualities as well as defensive. Really frustrated to see Taylor go.

Good clear Management speak. McCarthy knows what he is doing.
Expecting that we will get a few good frees and he is talking as if he has a some premier league youngsters lined up.
Feel a spark of excitement for next year
Sorry for Loach - home town club etc
Taylor- good riddance.

Not sure how I feel about Taylor. He has shown this season that he has ability and can make things happen. However, he's shown that about three times.

I know McCarthy has hardly played him, but he hasn't made enough of his chances. Not sure why that is. Still, he's hardly shown to have a great attitude off the pitch and with a small, cheap squad you need characters and a team ethic.

To be honest, I was more sad when he let JET go, because he had more ability than Taylor and a better attitude. His work ethic was a bit lacking though...

Shame about Loach. I think he's been hard done by, as I don't rate Gerken any higher personally. They're about equal and I guess McCarthy had to pick one and he did.

I like that Mick is straight talking on this, no faffing. Bit worried about his budget in the summer. Clearly it's going to be peanuts again. But maybe we'll have a chance of attracting better players now we've shown we can challenge in this division

Taylor is no surprise whatsoever, at least MM is honest about the reasons why. Loachy was predictable to. Obviously wants to play but not as good as Gerken and most fans want to see someone better than him.

Am a bit surprised at SEB I thought he was going to do the business, it looks like his injury problems have got the better of him and he has seen better days.

I can see Hunt staying on but I bet he is offered reduced terms. I don't know about Paul Green and Frazer Richardson, they have done OK but that I all. I don't really see what they had added to the team when they have come on. Looks like MM will search for better options but have them to call back on, especially if ME doesn't stump up some extra cash.

Should be Boring Mick going, not our best player, and a true-blue keeper.

Happy that Merlin is straight talking as usual and making these decisions early, just disappointed that our team can't accommodate a player like Taylor who has the ability to create something and change a game. I'm not keen on seeing Tabb or Hunt in a blue shirt again next season, both are past their best and we need more pace on the wide than these two can provide.

Looks like Mr Evans isn't going to be splashing the cash anytime soon either.

Given the choice between SEB, Taylor, or Marriot being in and around the team next year, I know which one I'd rather have

Oh well, that's the last signing from the Wickham money, in the same month Connor wins Premiership player of the month...

Glad Mick's being honest about it, although I doubt a club will be paying a fee if they hear all this!

Loach fluffed his chance but good luck to him - hope we sign a keeper (Hendo) and a couple of nippy wingers in the summer.

Next season will be absolutely Mick's team, let's hope it goes better than it did when our last 2 managers had a team full of their own signings.

Tabb a wide player is your type of player but Taylor isn't? Exactly what would you call a wide player then because id probably rightly argue that Taylor brings a lot more to a wide role than Tabb ever will. Your wide players Mick play tucked in so you may need to either refer to them by their right roles or sort out exactly what you think it is our midfield needs because its been dross this season in truth.
How many goals from Midfield this season? 6?

How much we going to recoup for Taylor and Loach then? £300,000 / £400,000??
More cash down the swanny...
Zzzz.

McCarthy's players are solid, basic players without a lot of flare. Taylor is a very good creative player and so is Woody - they are players I like to see play for ITFC. Every team needs them!

I forsee another season of grinded out results.
Whether we make the playoffs or not with McCarthy I don't think the entertainment value will be rated very highly.
We might get lucky and he might move on.

What is it about Taylor he doesn't like?
One thing for certain, he needs to add a lot of creativity to his current bunch for next season to be any better than this.

Gutted about SEB, guess he just wanted to get fit and move on

Hmm... I wonder if we'll see 'the Pulis effect' among our fans next season — namely that Stoke fans, despite a healthy position in the league, ultimately revolted against Pulis' style of play and got him sacked?

My heart sinks when MM says people like Tayls are not his type - in short our most exciting player, full of running, tenacity, effort, creativity and the ability to change a game. By that measure, I'd fear for Wordy's future here too.

Hands up who wants to see all out creative players replaced with journeyman loans next season? Because with these kinds of exits and no transfer chest, you can't help but wonder if that's the masterplan...

MM is, contrary to what many argue, prepared to field flair players. Williams and Adidas, especially when he went into that midfield role occasionally. I will bet that Taylor, whether it was on the pitch, training ground, dressing room or down the pub, didn't want to subscribe to the manager's description of teamwork. In which case tough luck, F off, he's the manager, do as you're told.
Loach just never commanded his box. Gerks has got much better at it.

I think we will Wark-On - and am surprised we did not this year. Enough is Enough.
And Stoke will finish in their highest position in the Premiership this year, so it worked for them. I am sure it would for us too.

Taylor wasn't a team player, he used to put his head down and run at people. If that excites you fair enough but he's scored less goals than Nouble ;)

Mullet added 16:13 - May 2
Quite clear innit. Mick hates creative players. Despite Tayls playing that pass that Frank got an assist with, imagine replacing someone who he never played except off the bench those times like Taylor, with someone elses player like Williams.
