Mings: Tough Assignment at Forest
Saturday, 4th Oct 2014 06:00

Left-back Tyrone Mings is braced for a tough assignment at Nottingham Forest on Sunday. The 21-year-old left-back says the Blues, who are unbeaten in six, will go there looking for a win but wouldn't be too disappoited with a draw.

“They have made a good start but even though they are unbeaten they have also shown they can drop points," he said.

"It won’t be easy — everyone knows that — but I think we are full of confidence going up there.

“They will be confident themselves so I’m expecting a good game. We will go there looking to get all three points but if we came away with one I think we’d all be happy.

"We’d take that now and I think anyone would from an away game against Forest.

“There will be a big crowd but I don’t really notice the crowd when I’m playing.

“There are certain grounds you go to where the atmosphere is better than others — I’m sure Nottingham Forest will be a big one — but as soon as the game kicks off, and all the hysteria and hype in the build-up has gone, it’s just another game.”

The former Chippenham Town man loves the attacking aspect of playing at left-back: “It’s part and parcel of being a modern day full-back.

"We have wingers that play on the inside and the full-backs go on the outside and join in.

“Full-backs are becoming more and more a part of the attacks, whether it’s joining in late or setting up the attack, so in terms of my performance and how much I enjoy it, I think it’s a big part of my game and it’s getting bigger. I’m enjoying it a lot more.

“In training we do attacking drills and pattern of play altogether, which means working on the full-backs getting forward and stuff like that.

“Whether we’re using a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 system we look to start attacks from the full-backs going round the outside.

"I work a lot on improving my end product in training, as with a lot of other aspects of my game. It’s all about striving to improve in every area and overall.”

Why go through the packed midfield when you can go around the outside?

Looking forward to actually getting a win at Forest - the first since 1999! I think if we can score past their niggardly defence, they might find it hard to score past ours (more than half of Forest's goals have come in just two games - one of those being Fulham - otherwise they have recently struggled to score one, let alone two).

Great to have attacking full backs with pace. He already has a few assists to his credit and Parr has scored too. Our solid defense is also one of our attacking strengths from out wide and at set pieces.

Lets hope Mings has an Irish granny.
