McCarthy Nominated for December Manager of the Month
Thursday, 8th Jan 2015 06:00

Town boss Mick McCarthy has been nominated for the Championship Manager of the Month award for December. Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe is also amongst the four nominees for the gong along with Slavisa Jokanovic of Watford and Middlesbrough's Aitor Karanka.

The Blues won four and drew one in the final month of the 2014, climbing to second in the Championship table.

Howe is likely to be the favourite with the table-topping Cherries having won all five of their league games, netting five goals against Cardiff and six at Blackpool. Their only defeat came in the Capital One Cup tie at home to Liverpool. The winner will be announced on Friday morning.

McCarthy, who was also nominated in November, previously won the September award - when Tyrone Mings was named the Player of the Month - to become the first Town boss to win Manager of the Month since Joe Royle in November 2004.

The current Town boss picked up the award three times with his previous clubs, once with Sunderland and twice with Wolves.

Great. Of course this means we will now lose our next game against Derby...

Only nominated, just like before when Brentfordwon it, then lost to Huddersfield.

Bournemouth should have this one in the bag. Won all their games in December.

Will now go and lose to NARGE.

Some benefits outway the others.

The Manager of the Month curse won't phase Mick at all. He wont even crack a smile about awards til the end of game 46!

All time Ipswich Mangers: (Permanent)

Sir Alf - 1.61 ppg
George Burley - 1.58ppg
Mick McCarthy - 1.56ppg
Bill McGarry - 1.56ppg
Joe Royal - 1.53ppg
Sir Bobby - 1.52ppg
John Duncan - 1.49ppg
Jim Magilton - 1.41ppg
Scott Duncan - 1.40ppg
Roy Keane - 1.35ppg
Bobby Ferguson - 1.34ppg
John Lyall - 1.29ppg
Paul Jewel - 1.26ppg
Jakie Milburn - 0.94ppg

Assuming 3 points for a win in any competition. Kinda Confirms what we knew but shows just how good Sir Alf and George Burley were. Obviously GB's stats also include the reason he was sacked so are very impressive.

the bridesmaid once again, I expect, and rightly so, given Bourenmouth's run.

But I would happily accept MM being nominated every month without winning, that would mean winning the Championship!

Nice work fatboytim. although worth remembering that many games for sir alf, sir bobby and GB were in prem, so arguably more difficult.

Lots of factors invloved commuterblue, they took all thier cup games seriously so didn't lose to lower league teams as often back then too. It's not scientific, just statistics! Managers who won promotions are nearer the top and it shows that Joe Royal is under-rated and was unlucky.

Bournemouth won all their games in December and Harry Arter scored in every game. We could do without Manager of the month anyway for the reasons stated above.

Phil - complete change of subject, but do you have any idea why the Brighton match is on Wednesday and not Tuesday?

Bournemouths games were mostly lower half of the table wins, ours were mostly top half or premiership (draw).
Game for game and trying to be impartial, I'd say our results were more impressive overall.

Town were very unlucky under Jo Royle in 2005. If we had 2 strikers getting 20 each (Bent & Kuqi) as well as a Midfielder getting 15 (Miller) this year we would be miles ahead. Just a shame Wigan also had Ellington & Roberts! Not to dwell on such things of course . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
