Blackburn Yet to Decide on Taylor Loan
Tuesday, 3rd Mar 2015 15:29

Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer says he’s yet to decide whether to sign Town striker Paul Taylor on loan. The 27-year-old has been training with the Lancashire side for the last month.

“He’s training with us, it’s an opportunity for us just to have a quick look for him and we’ll take it from there,” Bowyer told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“The lad has got some ability, there’s no doubt about that. You only need to look at his CV to see that he has had a decent career, people have seen the talent he has, but we’re just monitoring the situation.”

Rovers are subject to a Financial Fair Play embargo but are currently able to sign a limited number of players on loan.

Bowyer added: “We’re able to loan, that’s the situation we have at this moment in time, we need to just make sure that whoever we bring in is the right person to enhance the squad.”

Taylor hasn’t been back at Town since ending his loan spell at Rotherham in January with manager Mick McCarthy having told him to stay away and to find a new club.

“He’s not coming back and his agent’s been dealing with it. It’s with him and Paul. He’s not coming back, full stop,” McCarthy said in January.

Taylor, who is understood to be the club’s highest-earning player on around £10,000 a week, is out of contract at the end of the season.

The Liverpudlian joined the Blues from Peterborough in the summer of 2012 for an initial fee of £1.5 million, which could ultimately have risen to £2.5 million.

He made only nine starts and 16 sub appearances for Town, scoring one goal, and missed almost a year of football due to a toe injury.

So, do we, in fact, know what he's 'alleged' to have actually done?

It's an odd situation where we loan Varney and they consider Taylor. Are we both to find out that neither are any good?

Decent career??

Average at best.

I know Mick doesn't like him, but like 'bgexile' no has actually ever heard of anything he's a actually done, unlike in the past with chopra when he was drinking and the gambling, Taylor not Wordsworth for that matter has never seemed to do anything, this isn't having a go but considering we are loaning people like Chaplow and Varney, them two are surely more creative than the loan players

Maybe they meant 'carer'?

So basically, they're waiting to see if he rubs anyone up the wrong way, and if he does they won't take him. Let's hope they're keen to do things quickly before they meet the real Paul Taylor!

I think Taylor must have lied on his CV if Bowyer thinks he's had a decent career. I also don't believe that Taylor is Town's highest earner either, i think that comment is just trolled out every time there is a report written about him to make him look an even bigger waste of space!

I agree with kidsurello - he has never given an interview so what do we know about his misdemeanours? Chopra was someone who clearly did not have the club's best interests at heart and really dragged us down but it's a mystery what Taylor has done. Whenever he played, he was quite lively. Give him a break a bit as he is hardly a pariah by general standards.
It seems as though MM prefers to go down the Paul Jewell road of loading up on loanees which is always a sign of panic and lack of foresight in my opinion but it doesn't come as a surprise given the general stubbornness of the man and his total inflexibility in the soccer he makes his teams "play".

If you look on Wikipedia you get a fairly good idea of what he's done - or the lack of much football in a career of some 7 or 8 years. The cocaine use and the assault charge (ABH) probably counted against him a bit and apart from his spells with the mighty Vauxhall Motors and a Belgian fifth division side he doesn't seem to have done anything much relating to football. It is noticeable that as soon as he signs for anyone he seems to be loaned out elsewhere, which shows a certain lack of love.

Funny I said right from the start not to sign him because I live in Peterborough and knew what the posh fans were saying

Yet I got a right slagging off when I said

According to the EADT we still have six players out injured. With the smallest quad in this division it looks really bad.Our midfield is non existent and the three best players in these positions are all injured, and will not be available for the Leeds match. What MM has managed to get on loan is not as good as what we already have.I'm a big fan of MM but I sometimes wonder.!! Our owner to me is just not interested in this club otherwise he would have invested considering we are still in with a chance of promotion. He would I'm sure recoup his investments should we get promotion.I just don't understand what is going on at the club.Do we want promotion or not.MM can only do so much with what he has.I just hope like the rest of us we don't through this all away.COYB

We might not know what he's allegedly done wrong, but I'm fairly sure MM knows. That's all that matters really.

Dear Mr Bowyer, Check out the cv off the field that might help you make a decision and see what this guy is all about, it's a bloody shame because if someone got his head right I feel there is a very good player in there.

Well said Essexboy.
You can't blame MM - he & TC are doing an admirable job of attempting to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
The owner has taken advantage of this situation and tried to gain promotion on the cheap. Last Sunday hammered it home that he should have invested. I can't help feeling MM puts on a brave face in front of the media and has towed the line so far. It remains to be seen whether his patience will last into next season if we don't get promoted and proper investment is not forthcoming.

......... Gary Bowyer will be assessing his dedication to the cause, behaviour, etc; before he makes any commitment - he'll be a decent judge of character.

Over to you Paul Taylor ............ up for it, or not ??????

"you only need to look at his cv" Yes I'm sure thats littered with great references, and thought provoking insight.

We actually need the 10k a week he is consuming now to divide between a couple of quality midfield loans. Many have sited the need for a CAM role but we need more on the flanks also. Someone with killer delivery to feed sears, woods and murph. I feel that when fit McG will fill the CAM role as he is so capable of link up play.

The bad news here is that Blackburn hold all the cards, we don't care about taylor and won't be looking for salary or fee contribution for someone who came with promise but has proved to be an outcast, a convicted criminal unfortunately and most of all a costly disappointment. I remember being genuinely excited about how he would liven up the attack, and wether he still has the ability i don't know but he has rarely kicked a ball in 2 years. I feel his potential attitude may have been summed up when he became a bench warmer at Rotherham at a time when they were really struggling.

Ultimately though Paul Taylor probably is a Championship forward, i can't see him establishing himself at this level. Its a hit to take but for the sake of his career he needs to engineer a league one move and promote himself for the next couple of seasons if he is to become a top championship player before the end of his career.

Right now some would say we need a Paul Taylor. A useful link up man. Mick has it right though we don't need a mood hoover, that brings issues to the club we have paid heavily to eradicate. This is the last of the Keane/Jewell legacy, and the funfair stops when he's gone, and never pops up on a twtd feed again.
