McCarthy: No Immediate Plans for Further Loans
Friday, 13th Mar 2015 06:00

Town boss Mick McCarthy currently isn’t looking to make any loan signings but says the facility to add players to his squad before the deadline on Thursday 26th March is there if required.

“I’ve got nobody coming in, not at the moment,” McCarthy said. “We don’t need anybody.”

“I hear somebody screaming [at me saying] with 10 games to go that we don’t need anybody. Need and what you can get are two different things.

“The majority of the players who have got us where we are have been brilliant, then we’ve got Woody, Reg Varney and Chappers, who did really well, they’ve all come in to help. I’m cool with what I’ve got.”

But he says that the facility is there to bring someone in if he needs to do so in the next fortnight: “Of course.”

Regarding Chappers, midfielder Richard Chaplow, McCarthy says Millwall - now managed by Neil Harris following Ian Holloway’s sacking earlier in the week - didn’t request a recall clause when the 30-year-old joined the Blues on loan towards the end of last month.

“Not to my knowledge, we’ve signed him until after the play-offs,” he added. “They didn’t ask for one.”

Asked what his response is when fans say he ought to have been given more money to spend in January, he said: “I don’t say anything. You know my thoughts on all of that. I do the job with the facilities, the players, the advantages I have, everything. I just take it in my stride and get on with it.

“What’s the point? I don’t get that you should be wishing for something. If it’s not there, there’s no point in wishing for it. Get out there and do the best you can with what you’ve got.

“And I think that’s why we’ve done so well, that’s what we do. We get on with it and we’re not always looking for something else, something that’s not going to be there and regretting it.

“And we’re still pushing for promotion with 10 games to go. I don’t think it’s the time to be looking back and thinking ‘Woe is me’ because woe isn’t me at all. Me is cracking on trying to win promotion.”

Every team in the top 8 needs a good run of wins in order to secure top 6 ,WHY NOT US...

There was a rumour flying around that there was money available in January and it was Mick's choice not to spend it. Depends whether you believe that or not. But when Mick kept spouting rubbish like "I'd be hard pushed to bring in better than what I've got already" then maybe there was indeed some funds there. Team spirit has been massive, but that was another excuse churned out for not strengthening. You don't not strengthen because it might upset people. We won't ever know whether the strategy in Jan was down to Mick or Evans, but I feel we really missed our best opportunity in years to kick on and it's criminal

Blues1 and meekreach or whatever your stupid name is. Do us all a favour and DO ONE. To down arrow people's comments and not even have the balls to offer one yourself means you are either gutless or just cretins. Probably both. Feel free yo doen arrow this because it tells me youve read it....if you don't down arrow , youve grown up! Your choice.

Criminal - is a bit strong - Its Football , we have no money
Derby bring in 3 high wage high profile players and they have gone LLD in last three , and now have a really tough run - gamble all you like
We have to live in the real world not fantasy football
It is still in our hands

Completely agree with you ArnieM. But it's all about ambition or perhaps lack of. Mick has done a great job with what he has got, but the strategy in January was flawed and pretty much any realistic person could see that. The liked of blues and mmeereech, firmly have their heads well and truly in the sand. Seems to be a common theme on here though now. There's an element of people, who label people like me, who don't just blindly follow anything that's put in front of me a moaner. Fact is, at the turn of the year we were 2ND this was our best chance in the Marcus Evans era, for us to be potentially promoted. Whatever way you plaster over it the strategy was plain wrong. Now this isn't saying Mick is a bad manager, he isn't, he's the best manager this club has had in years. In my opinion it is an opportunity missed.

So much negativity day in day out....

We all know Mick was given a shoestring budget we all know in January we looked hot prospects to go up - we've had a slump! Funnily so have everybody else above us!

Everyone has still got to play each other - pick up 7+ points out the next 12 will see us in a good position.

And let's be fair - if anyone on here really thinks we had a shot at top 2 you'd of put your mortgage on it...

Of all the top teams in January who went out and spent the most on new additionas loanees - Answer - DERBY , now wins in 3 - Big gamble -
It is still in OUR Hands and until it isnt why not just get behind
If we do not make it then start with the questioning surely ?
Next few weeks massive and we can still be right in there

Personally don't believe we will make the top 6 unless we win both the next 2 games. A draw against Boro isn't good enough.

Can't see that happening so would side with ArnieM.

Mings, Bishop, MCgoldrick would all go if we don't get promoted.

The only hope I have is Connolly. If he's really that good we should start him immediately.

let's be realistic. Given our squad we've done really well this season. It's a shame we can't push for promotion like other teams around us but money is the nature of the game these days. Our hoofballs got us to where we are but our squad lacks quality throughout the midfield. yes, we have a bunch of players who can fight and tackle to win it back but we've got no Peralta, Taricco, Dos Santos or Holland to make or create something at the other end of the pitch.

ArnieM is right. By not investing (or not being able to invest) we have settled for a place in the top 10. No relegation fears this season though so a top 10 place isn't bad. We would have all taken a top 10 place before the start of the season.

ArnieM.
I too downgraded your initial comment without in the first instance offering an opinion. Why? - Because your first comment was just a smart alec negative throwaway with no rational supporting argument. I simply clicked because I disagreed with your remark.

Now if you want opinion then my opinion is that your subsequent post amounts to little more than a delinquent tantrum.

There there!

I see solid progress under McCarthy...

Season P W D L F A Pts Pos
12/13 46 16 12 18 48 61 60 14th
13/14 46 18 14 14 60 54 68 9th
14/15 36 17 10 9 56 39 61 7th

I'll be judging this season once it's finished and given what's been before and how this squad is still very much a work in progress, I think the current league position is pretty impressive.

Surely it is not a case of spending money to improve. It is about making best use of current resources which is palpably something MM is not doing. Why bring in players he may not play - Henshall, Stewart, Parr (wrong position), Connolly, etc and I am sure there are others who I can't immediately think of, are cases in point. It is his utter stubbornness and refusal to contemplate change and his bizarre selections which have undermined us - not the lack of recruits or financial commitment from ME.

blueherts added 14:56 - Mar 13
Britanniaman they bought in 3 big name players - tough luck if he gets injured - not paying off him sitting on the side
Lets judge MM at end of next 10 games not now

Would be good for the club to clarify the situation. Rumours on here that there was money to spend in January. Other rumours say not and now sources claim Evans not prepared to spend out unless we are still on contention after next three games .... When it could be too late. We need attack minded midfielders to stand any chance. Whether it's Evans not freeing up cash or MM ego, then somewhere someone needs to change and sign that Williams type player and or winger we desperately need for the final push. Not convinced Varney or Chaplow are good enough signings.

looks like we are going to settle for mid table [we do that most years now but come from bottom] .I dont think George Burley was given credit he deserved. Thanks for the memories George .

@dirtydingusmagee

George Burley spent millions getting us promoted. We're not in the same financial position now and McCarthy's done a phenomenal job with what he's had to use. It's crazy to make a comparison between the two. As much of a great job Burley did, he also wasted £5m on crap like Matteo Sereni!

PJH added 20:54 - Mar 13
I think the money that George Burley spent to get us promoted was raised by selling-notably Kieron Dyer-so it was self financed.

MacMan added 08:10 - Mar 14
Agree with nhabo. Progress is finishing at least one place higher than the previous season. If we keep doing that we should be happy. Also agree with Michael11. Didn't we get £6million for Kieron Dyer? It was a great investment on Marcus Stewart but how much did we subsequently waste on players like sereni and Ulrich Le Pen? I believe he cost a million quid and played 2 minutes. I may be wrong, but whatever it was, it wasn't sound financial business was it?

0k ,chaps fair fair comments, but i dont see us doing as well as we did under Burley or Royle ,Im not having a go at Mick ,he has done a great job,but we seem to reach a point where we just cant go further ,or slip back .This year was [i use past tense because i dont see us in playoffs, i hope im wrong ] our best chance in years, we had points in the bag could have gone on but blew it , The belief that we will do it next year is a heart feeling not head .The team is not good enough to do it now, next year will see changes ,but if we cant get the right players now who says we can next year .
