Probably found his level at the moment. I really hope he progresses and can make a go of it. He had so much potential and needs to be playing for a team regularly.

It can't have been easy going out on loan to several different clubs.

It will be interesting following his career now as he is only 20 years old and could push on to better things from there.

I think this may be MM's Jordan Rhodes esque moment.

Massive coup for Luton. I think he'll be L1/L2 for life. Good player with decent ability, he'll have a decent career.

So all the people who thought he should be in the side, were questionning Mick, blubbing, lets see what you make of this.

I remember seeing him play at colchester pre season a couple of years ago and thinking that he could be special. Has not really kicked on since, coming back over weight last summer probably did not help. Wish the lad well. MM rarely gets it wrong whereas the dark lord rarely got it right.

Good luck to Jack but there has been nothing in the last two years to suggest that he is now going to develop into a multi million pound striker.
Was very promising but has not progressed.
Would be very surprised if ITFC regret letting him go but as I said,good luck to him.

We have had so many young players coming through that we had high hopes for, particularly strikers, and apart from Jordan Rhodes none of them have proven to be good enough/better than the level the club is playing at. The Billy Clarkes, Caolan Laverys, Dean Bowditchs, Richard Logans of the world etc. have all been decent goalscorers at underage and lower league level, but were not good enough to be first team regulars in the Championship. That seems to be the case with Marriott also. some had been calling for him to get a game at Portman Road, even though the manager of a team struggling at the bottom of Division 1 wasn't picking him.
Sometime we have blind loyalty to players, because we have high hopes for them since youth football and because they are "one of our own". While Marriott went out on loan, we brought in Freddie Sears, Noel Hunt, Luke Varney and Chris Wood. Even though the Wood signing was not a success (although he seemed to be getting his sharpness back in the last game before his loan was cut short), I was still far happier to have those striking options available to us for the last few months of the season, than a player who had not been able to break into the Colchester or Gillingham teams. He had even struggled when he back to Woking for a second spell.

Good luck to Jack though, this is a good move for him at a level where he has a chance to get some game time and with it a few league goals, which may give him the boost he needs to push on. I just don't see him being capable of making an impact at Championship level, for a few seasons anyway, & football doesn't tend to wait around for you.

I think Jack will have a decent career but this doesn't have the same feel to it as when we let Rhodes go. Rhodes was banging goals in for fun in League One whereas Marriott couldn't even get a chance at a struggling Colchester. All the best Jack.

with all due respect, Jordan Rhodes was a prolific scorer at loan clubs when he left, Mariott has been anything but apart from at Woking, and even there he was nothing special after his first spell.

Is he better than McGoldrick, Sears, Murphy and the inevitable 1 or 2 other Championship quality players that will be coming through the door? No, he couldn't even get a game for Colchester. So as much as he's been talked up as a prospect, he's yet to back it up with ability. We need quality, now, to mount another promotion challenge

Professional football is not only about ability its also about the mental side of the game. Only a few make it from youth to pro in championship ,prem and indeed div 1. Talent counts for nothing unless you have that X factor mentally in order to really drive yourself. The Luton move is make or break.

Is Mark Kennedy really that bad a coach? Can't make it down to see reserve team games anymore so I haven't a clue about his style.

In terms of Marriott - I believe that if was given the same first team oppotunties as Nouble was afforded then I think he would have scored more than big Frank.

Think the young players have suffered since ME has taken over as they have been sidelined in order for experienced loan players or overpriced players like Norris and Leadbitter to take us forward. In hindsight, attempts at throwing money towards the rush for the PL, has not helped with the development of the younger players.

Maybe this will change soon.

@adampasty: We didn't release Darren Bent as not being good enough, he was our main striker and he was sold to a Premiership club for £2.5m/£3m.
My point was in relation to players who were deemed as not being up to the level the club required. Our record in pretty good in that respect. Even with Rhodes, there were factors which had more to do with the personality and vindictiveness of our then manager, allegedly, than particular to the player's ability.

Had the pleasure to meet Jack a few times and found him to be a thoroughly nice lad. Good luck, work hard and keep scoring. Luton is a great chance to prove Mick wrong.
