Newcastle Make Mings Enquiry Claims Thursday, 18th Jun 2015 09:14 Newcastle United have reportedly made an enquiry regarding Blues left-back Tyrone Mings.
According to the Northern Echo, one of a couple of North-East papers running the story, the Magpies, now managed by Steve McClaren, were quoted an initial fee of £8 million for the 22-year-old with Town said to want an overall deal worth £10 million once further clauses were taken into account.
The Blues have long been understood to be targeting an eight-figure fee for the highly-rated full-back.
Newcastle were amongst the Premier League clubs regularly represented at Portman Road last season to keep tabs on Mings and were claimed to have made an unsuccessful £4 million bid for the ex-Chippenham man in January.
At the weekend, West Brom were reported to be showing interest, while the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and most of the rest of the Premier League have also been mentioned in connection with Mings at some stage over the last year or so, the Blues having turned down a £3.5 million offer from Crystal Palace last summer.
In September last year Mings, who cost the Blues £10,000 when he was signed from the Evo-Stick League Chippenham in December 2012, signed a contract which runs to the summer of 2017.
Elsewhere, former Blues winger Gary Roberts, 31, has joined Portsmouth from Chesterfield, signing a three-year deal.

Newcastle signed Darlow and Laselles of Forest last season and loaned them back for the season so (should they actually sign Mings) they might think that another season back at Town would be good for his continued development.

£8m-£10m and I'd snap their hands off. Already have his replacement in Jonny Parr anyway. That amount of money re-invested into the transfer kitty would make our squad 10x stronger.

After the season Newcastle had, I think he'd go straight into the team.

Let's keep him for one more season if we can and see if we can get to the Premier league together. We need to keep our players who want to and are capable of playing in the Premier league.

My inclination would be to sell but let's see what other offers come our way. there is no need to rush. Agree Mings has buckets of potential but at 22 you have to wonder will he get much better? His drop in form towards the end of the season was a worry, maybe it was end of season tiredness, maybe he was distracted by talk of a transfer. Of course if we do sell it must be on the basis that the fee is fully used to strengthen the squad.

andygizmo-in today's market Beaatie would be worth in excess of 350M irrespective of how much Mings might or might not be worth. As for Mings,he did have a poorish finish to the season, for whatever reason, but he is still lacking in experience and still has great potential. As some have said,I would like him with us for at least one more season but if somebody makes an offer that is simply too good to turn down,we should be able to add quality to the squad as we did after the sale of Dyer.

Typo-meant £50M for Beattie but maybe £350m not too far out!

Personally feel if he went and we got around £6-8M (Even though he's not worth it currently) I think that will be good business - slot Parr back into LB and let's splash the cash on an attacking midfielder and some quality out wide and some back in other positions as our squad is to thin.

I get so annoyed at all the comments about a player being loyal, Of course they are not loyal they are not supporters of the club it is a job. Be honest how many of you would be loyal to your company if someone came and offered you 2/3 or even 10 times your salary? I would like to see him stay but if we can get £8-10 million for a £10,000 player then that is good business. Especially if the money is reinvested into more players.

What a bunch of idiotic comments to another non story, If you went to games last season you would know this lad is learning his trade and has great potential, so don't slag him off you lot are mere trolls not proper fans. BFN Mind the gap....

Do Chippenham get any sell on payment? Be a massive boost for a small club.

.......... fact is folks Mings will need to move on to a bigger Club playing a more technical game, the coaching will be totally different, and he will benefit tremendously from all that. He will be one of a 'few' players on the books that will be a tad unsure of the ambition of our Club right now - therefore unsettled. 14th Season (coming up) - correct me if I'm wrong, in the Championship, would suggest we have 'taken root' - and not a lot of excitement as yet to suggest otherwise, is the bare bones of it. Like it, or not - TRUTH.

Loyalty in Football ?????? ........... you're having a laugh ............. wake up people, gone long ago - except for the odd individual that it suits.

8 - 10 million is a lot of money and MM could do a lot with just a fraction of this. I think we should accept an offer in that region and look to find a similar athlete to Mings to become understudy to Parr for the next year or two. and then see what happens. Had never really thought of us as a purveyor of fine left backs to the Prem .......

Rio went for £30M to Man Utd, we should at least get £10M plus add ons - if we sell. Personally I would love to see him stay, I think he will get better & better & if we are serious about going up & staying there, then we will need players of his ability.

Blueboy spot on - Loyalty means nothing and his agent will be rubbing his hands I think whilst he has undoubted potential - unlike Cresswell he doesnt have as much experience yet and he did switch off at key moments . It could well be be the best bit of business ever done from 10k to 10m in a couple of seasons The only thing is the old 'Wally with the brolly' will probably take Newcastle down next season - Would like the idea of getting the money then investing in a couple of pacey midfielders , a RB and a keeper - if we keep Dids , Murph and Bishop I would take 10m
mrmorisato added 00:40 - Jun 19
I think town need to sell either Mings or Bishop to improve the playing squad, if we manage to secure £8Million+ then I think town will have done well. Derby look like they've gambled big time for next season as Bent must be on £20K+ a week, so to Weimann. I don't think the league will be any more tougher this coming season, I think Burnley will be in a strong position so too Hull, I think QPR will be in for a summer of pain and ultimate disappointment. I'm hoping Mick can do what he did last summer and bring the players in before too long. I'm already looking forward to pre-season :)

Presumably Chippenham have a sell-on clause?
Ipswichbusiness added 10:39 - Jun 19
I hope that we keep Mings and all our other players. We will not be promoted by selling our best. I know that Mings' form dipped at the end of last season, but young players who are learning their trade will be less consistent and make more mistakes.
PMK added 10:57 - Jun 19
I'm sorry but I just don't get the attention Mings is attracting. He's prone to mistakes, every time he picks the ball up, it's a hopeful punt down the flanks. Reminds me a bit of Titus Bramble in terms of potential. However many years ago we got several million for him so in today's market the valuation is about right. Hardly any premier league club is gonna pay more than £10m for a championship defender and if we get anything close to that I'd be happy to say thank you very much and wish the lad well.
rickw added 12:04 - Jun 19
I don't understand all the anti-Mings brigade on here, he's a 6"5 pacy full back who can attack and defend, yes his passing if perhaps the weakest part of his game, maybe he just needs more composure or maybe he's takes the managers 'take no chances' instructions too literally and isn't good at playing long passes. I know the first half of last season he was great entertainment - always looking to run forward, then after Christmas this became less frequent. This coincided with the switch from 433 back-to 442, so we don't know if again it was managers instructions to play not so offensive and maybe McCarthy just wanted him to work on the defensive side of his game. I think in the first play-off game he stopped Redmond all match, I don't think Redmond beat him once - and not many players can do that! After the game on Norwich forums they were happy that Redmond had kept Mings quiet!! The away game I was in chat when people blamed him for 2 of their goals - the first was a pass to Sears, where their full back ran through Sears and got to the ball first, maybe it was the wrong pass or maybe Sears should have been stronger. He was also blamed for their second - if you watch it again Mings seemed to be left marking Johnson and Redmond. Anyway I don't think a full back can win you the league, so for £10m + add ons, I'd hope Mick could re-invest that and make us stronger
