Monday, 9th Nov 2015 11:07

Daryl Murphy’s hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-2 win at Rotherham was the first scored by a Town player since Connor Wickham’s in the 6-0 victory at Doncaster in February 2011, which trebles were the greatest scored for the Blues?

Great memories Harry. Whymark scored some fabulous goals for Vancouver Whiecaps one I remember was just like his rasping shot on the vid. What a team we had then, everyone looked comfortable with the ball, even Big Al

I was at West Brom in 86 when Deehan scored a hat-trick as we came back from 2-0 and 3-1 down to win 4-3. As an 11 year old then i can still remember the noise of the Albion fans as they were 2 up in no time and the quietness of them as we turned the game around.

Fabulous footage from the West Brom drubbing. One recalls a hat-trick for Brian Hamilton against Newcastle in a 5-4 thriller back in 75, but as many have said nothing can top Super Jim's effort for the drama and the occasion.

Alan Brazil. 16 February 1982, when he scored all of their goals in a 5—2 league win over Southampton.

Brazilliant! The Green' Un said if I remember rightly.

The beat- funny you should mention Deehan and 86/87, as I have a sneaking feeling Town players scored more hat tricks that season than in any other? Kevin Wilson I think got 2 hat tricks as dis someone else? If rthere is still life in this excellent trip down memory lane perhaps someone could confirm or confound?

Posted earlier that Magilton's hat-trick surely cannot be surpassed for importance, occasion and drama and who can forget who was lucky to be there that night the atmosphere inside Portman Rd, probably the best i've witnessed in 50 plus years of following Town. I was there for both Viljoens against Portsmouth and at Carrot Rd and Wymarks against WBA. Thinking back to Viljoens on his debut am i right in thinking he smashed one in from distance off the underside of the bar North Stand end or was that a later game? I was only 10 or so at the time!

Brilliant to read positive comments about Colin Viljoen on here, the best player I have seen in 60 years of supporting Ipswich Town. He was the key player in Bill McGarrys brilliant promotion winning team in 1968 and he single handedly kept us in the first division in the early 70's.

Has to be Magilton's for what was at stake. Never say die spirit epitomised that performance that night. Portman Road was electric and when he netted his 3rd Portman Road was pandemonium. I fell over three rows of seats when it hit the net. Still get nervous watching it now!

No shadow of a doubt. Magilton's never say die attitude and hat trick in the Bolton play off game that sent shivers down my back and tears in my eyes. The drama, the importance, the timing of every goal was pure theatre. Without a shadow of a lie I nearly collapsed after that game and ended up with a pacemaker a week later. i was only 46 but It was worth it !!!

Paul Mariners hatrick at Millwall in the infamous 1978 F A Cup 6th round. Couldn,t/didn,t dare celebrate at the time.

battyblue, I was singing Trevor Whymark's praises to some fellow South-West based fans when two of them said that they went to school with him. They added that he ended up playing in older aged teams and that opponents still couldn't get the ball off him!

A lot of folk going a long way back here, but how about Marcus Stewarts hat trick V Southampton in the 2000/2001 season? We outclassed Southampton in their own ground. So classy all shown on sky sports too. TWTD.

The beat- beat me to it! Nice one. I think that was a club record for number of hat tricks in a season. Nigel Gleghorn - like Neil Gregory and Dean Bowditch, one of our more obscure hat trick heroes.

Saw Marcus Stewarts hat trick at the Saints, think one was a pen.He strolled up fooled the keeper and chipped it over him when he was going down.Brilliant!!!

For excitement nothing can beat that Bolton play off,not even winning the first division,FA Cup or UEFA Cup finals, not for me at any rate;but what terrific games we have seen in the 50+ years I have been foolowing the Town.
