Milne: Nobody's for Sale
Sunday, 20th Dec 2015 20:12

Town MD Ian Milne has reiterated that the Blues have no intention of selling any of their players during the January window and says there’s scope for manager Mick McCarthy to add to his squad if he wants to make further additions.

Speaking on Friday, McCarthy said there was “no chance” of January sales when asked whether there might be interest in striker Freddie Sears or other members of his squad and Milne concurred.

“Absolutely, as this time last season when we sold nobody and there was some interest in some players,” he told Saturday’s Life’s a Pitch on BBC Radio Suffolk.

“I’m sure there will be some interest in ‘Hurricane’ Sears, as I call him, but nobody’s up for sale, we want to keep them.

“You never know, if somebody comes in with a huge bid and then it’s a discussion with the player, you don’t want to keep a player back.

“But certainly, as I stand here, there are no plans to sell anybody and I think going forward if Mick needs to complement the team, which I can’t see that he does at the moment, if he wants to complement the team, that’s a discussion that he and Marcus will have.

“I think we’ve shown that where we need to take on players, we’ve taken on some great players.

“It’s a great squad. I was with Mick on Friday and he’s very happy with the squad that he’s got and they’re proving themselves on the pitch.”

Manager McCarthy has repeatedly said that he is happy with his squad as it stands.

I couldn't care less how liitle or much we spend - it's about bringing in the right players and giving them a decent chance.

Having a fully fit Bishop,Bru,Hyam,Varney,Fraser Oar and McGoldrick would be nice January additions.

Nobody should be allowed to leave next month if we're serious about doing anything in this league.

There's the suggestion that money is available to strengthen squad but MM is happy with what he's got! What I dont get is that MM is happy with 6th at best and that Town can't compete with top 5. Thats not good enough as surely MM should saying what he needs to get into top 5 and if ME wont provide the funds then we'll all know wher ewe stand, MID TABLE MEDIOCRATY.

The message is clear.

The ITFC ambition is MID TABLE CHAMPIONSHIP: ...... unless we can make the PREMIERSHIP on the cheap - Oh, and of course, still playing square pegs in round holes.

But there'll be some more tempting spin nearer 'the sale' of Season Tickets for next season...........

essex57 ........ I guess you have personally astounded several people on here - with your consistent, and obvious, lack of ambition for the Club.

Merry Xmas & a Happy New Year Happy Chappie.

The medicine obviously doesn't taste good.

Why does Milne come out with this rubbish. Nobody believes him now anyway and we know there will be no investment.

Why would Evans want to sell or invest in the club to get us promoted? The Premiership needs deeper pockets than hes got and he's making a great return on his investment as it is. He's got the sale of Sears to look forward to now - the summer will do nice for that - and he doesnt want to spend a penny of that on the club - which he'd have to do if we went up. He's got us exactly where he wants us

Same moaners moaning for the sake of moaning again, WHAT A SURPRISE!! All you lot moan about our "lack of ambition" yet we are top 6 at Christmas have been in the top 2 leagues since the 50's and have a sensible owner and the best manager in the championship.

Seriously would you all like Evans to sell up tomorrow to get a billionaire in who might sack 3 managers a season, demand £6m a season in interest for the loans to cover wages, but hang on I forgot wages don't count unless you pay £4m for a player silly me.

I for one want a manager and a team I can get to know when I watch them over a few years, I hated under Jewell and Keane when we had more loan players every year who couldn't give 2 hoots. Freebies who earn £10-15k a week wages and want to play for mick over £4m and £30-40k a week wages for me everyday.

We are a squad made up from mainly freebies that no one else wanted, so why would anyone want to pay us for players who were not deemed good enough by the clubs they left.
MM has moulded them into a unit that can do a reasonable job but I honestly think it will never be good enough to get us into the premiership. What's the difference between us and the top teams who have beaten us already this season - answer quality players that they have put their hands into their pockets to buy. I will continue to support the club, because it's in my blood, but I and others can see what it will take for us to become something a little different before we can really challenge for an automatic promotion spot and be able to hold onto and establish us to be a Premiership side.

Well we have heard it all before, and like politicians who promise much and deliver little.
The proof will be in the January transfer window.
As for the Manager,I expected this type of football when he was appointed, and he hasn't disappointed.
Had hoped he would change;but dont think this stubborn Yorkshireman will now after 3 years. Why should he as he seems quite happy with what he has got,and acheived in 3 years on a shoestring budget.
Where do we go from here then?
Precisely nowhere I fear if no investment is made in January,or he changes his style of football somewhat, which he is unlikely to happen I fear after all this time.
Still happy Christmas folks, and lets make a New Year resolution not to slag your fellow supporters off if they dont happen to share your opinions.

Merry Xmas & a Happy and Prosperous New Year to ALL Ipswich Town Supporters - even those who tell us 'to go elsewhere' if we don't agree with them.

Special mention to our sensational away supporter - SECOND TO NONE.

WTF!! - why should we affirm that we're not selling any players come January surely nobody expected to?! please ITFC board don't think that makes us content as you've said this - and the 'scope' and 'if he wants to make further additions' (Mick) doesn't sound very encouraging to me either.
Mick say to ME we need some additons (in part due to injuries) and some extra quality in certain areas and please say "sorry Marcus but I feel we need to spend somewhat to get that quality in" - not talking about £10K either! - end of rant.

WE have an owner no longer interested in pitch investment..... Ian Holloway said as much recently, remarking the owners heart wasn't in it!
WE have a manager who promised entertaining football would follow after stability, got walloped at Reading, thus reverted to type!
RESULT, we're on the road to nowhere!

Let's be real guys.any monies from player sales have been eaten up by wages
There is no chance of new players until we sell. That is reality

This country full of capitalism, sadly it's taken a grip of the working man's game.....and most certainly OUR CLUB!!!!

To add to my post: the feeling I get is that Mick and Marcus have quite a cushy relationship - no proof on this just a hunch.

How anyone can be taken in by these statements from Milne is beyond me. We were told that there was money to spend in the summer and all we spent was peanuts. NCFC are going to spend £12M on a player from Wolves - we need to be looking for the same sort of commitment from our owner

still haven't forgot embarrassing show v Reading, and sad mascot fees.. our once great club is still showing no glimpse of ambition

' hated under Jewell and Keane when we had more loan players every year who couldn't give 2 hoots. '

and who was the owner then ?

why, it was the

'sensible owner'

Yep, the one who we were told was not using the club as a sort of 'tax arrangement' yet recently revealed that both the club and the training ground were moved to offshore ownership for, err.......... tax reasons

Has also over seen the tripling of the club debt, The loss of around ten thousand season tickets and attendances and the youth policy as good as dry up and seen us in the 2nd tier longer than any club currently in the league.

We have to all intents become a zombie club, stuck in some sort of limbo. going nowhere, achieveing nothing and not likely to in the next few years. But as long as we doff our cap and know our place all will be well !

BigHibbs what a load of rubbish ! Looking at our average gate of almost 19k i would say we have bloody great fans, considering the dross we have had to put up with over the last decade .
Have you seen our away following we have superb fans .Nothing wrong with wanting to be shown a bit of ambition by the owner .
We should have strengthened a bit more last season around this time,we were very poor after Christmas last year in defence .

jonbull88 added 09:37 - Dec 22
@harry10, yes Evans threw money at promotion, it failed with 3 managers, he changes his mind, and gone the other way and results have turned completely around and we are now a top 10 side not bottom 6 side. Also lost 10k ticket holders, so we had 29k in 2007? Give over it was 23-24k. So 3-4K in 8 years when we went through the worst period recent history.

Also if we spend £5-10m we will see the debt rise to £95-100m do you want that and STILL be where we are as most clubs are slashing out and will stay in the championship.

Some serious and uncalled for anti-town rhetoric being posted on here. You'd think fans would be happy that the owner has got his act together, employed the right people and lo and behold has got a club challenging for promotion rather than fighting against relegation.

The club needs £6m a year investment on top of revenues just to stay afloat every year. That's £6,000,000... it is a rather enormous amount of money!!! So what if the investment is being handled as a way for the Marcus Evans group to offset their tax liabilities?? It's actually a commonplace way of an investor paying less tax - and it's legitimate.

I think if anything the only thing wrong at the moment is the simple mindedness of a select few fans who have got it into their heads that Marcus Evans is taking ITFC for a ride. You know who you are, you'll most likely vote down this post, to be honest I don't care.

I'm glad we have an owner who knows what he is doing with money. The last owner failed miserably on that score, and we nearly went bust because of it.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the season, cheering on the team I have supported since I was a kid. Hopefully come end of April we'll be right in the mix, and maybe we might go up. If we do, I will be the first on here to congratulate ITFC, and point and laugh at the miserable so-called fans who pad out these articles with their needless negativity.

Up the town!
