Norwegian Club Targeting Parr
Saturday, 2nd Jan 2016 20:25

TWTD understands that Norwegian side Strømsgodset have spoken to the Blues regarding a move for full-back Jonny Parr.

Strømsgodset’s interest in the 27-year-old, who was on the bench for Town at Burnley today, first emerged in Norway towards the end of the week and we understand that talks have taken place between the clubs with a view to Parr moving on - perhaps on loan - before the Norwegian season starts in March.

In addition to Strømsgodset, who finished second in the Norwegian top flight during the 2015 season, other clubs in Norway and elsewhere in Europe are also showing interest in the Oslo-born defender or midfielder, who may well favour a move in order to play first team football having started only three times for Town in the Championship this season.

Even if the clubs do conclude a deal, the Blues are highly unlikely to allow the move to take place until they have cover at full-back lined up.

Parr, whose Town contract is up in the summer, joined the Blues following his release by Crystal Palace in the summer of 2014 and has made 29 starts and 14 sub appearances, scoring three goals.

Don't want to see him leave, but if it means we'll sign a decent full back that Mick will actually play, I'm all for it.

would be sad to see parr leave. a very good player who has never really been given a fair chance at the club.

I agree with you both, bug feel there really has to be more than meets the eye to Parrs departure.

Not surprised by this, deserved to have had a run of games, barring the niggly injuries he has had this season, but clearly Mick has his favourites and only sees him as a fill in. Always a 6 out of 10 type, no frills but can understand that he needs to be playing.

Not surprised at all, he is our best full back and still can't get a game. Mick dose the want to play him so he fully deserves to leave and go play somewhere else. Will be sad to see him go because I would much rather see him in our starting team.

Here we go...not surprising this is happening. Okay he is a bit injury prone but has done well WHEN HE IS PLAYED IN THE CORRECT POSITION (not right midfield) - like a month or so ago (scored in first game at LB and clean sheet next game) - so what has he done wrong?

Probably a good move for all concerned. Parr is never going to replace either fullback and wants to play football. Whoever MM signs to replace him no doubt will be in the same position regarding actually getting into the team as a fullback barring injuries.

Not so much now, but last season when our form collapsed, and it was so obvious Smith should have been dropped for Parr, and Chambers moving to partner Berra. Parr was treated terribly a really good LB or RB who deserved his chance given past performances.

We played our best team when Mings was bombing forward on one wing and Parr on the other last season. Quite frankly it got embarrassing that he did not start during the second half of the season.

I can only wish him well for the future. Mick does a bloody good job at ITFC but sometimes his policy of playing players into form takes A) a long tie to come off and B) is very risky. We nearly contrived to finish outside of the play off places last season as a result, considering how many points we were above 7th place at one stage.

itfc1981. Thanks for marking me down. I happen to agree with everything you say but as we all know Parr is never going to get into a MM team and he wants to play football. I like you feel sorry for Parr and think he is a better fullback than we currently have, but neither of us know the full story. MM never talks negatively about any of his players in public and that is something I actually approve of. Our league position says we must let the manager manage as he must be doing things right. If and when we fall down the league then we start to ask questions.

If we sell/release Parr, we MUST sign a quality replacement. Parrs injuries however will I suspect force Towns hand. Offered nothing due to injury this season I'm afraid.

Fact is MM doesn't fancy him. What we see is only his match day persona. We don't have the inside track on anything else that's going on during the week. If we were struggling at the bottom of the league because he was being left out then maybe the question of why? would be important. But fact is he's not making it into a tea that's doing well. Best of luck to him if he gets his move.

Slightly concerned about Parr leaving. If we sign a good replacement; all well and good. But considering Coke can also play wing-back, is MM thinking he has an adequate replacement already?

If Knudsen got injured, who is actually capable of playing left back? The only player I can think of is Parr. It's a risk if we intend to bring in no replacement.

A proper full back never given a chance by MM .

The trouble is most posters on here only see the players at games. Parr has not always been the greatest defender what little I've seen. And I suspect in training is not as good as the other options that MM sees. Parr is that useful player who can do a job anywhere. What he isn't is better than what we have in specialist roles.

Go for it Jonny, McCarthy is never going to give you a proper chance here. Sad to see you leave though.

I totally agree with the majority of comments. Parr is a far better full back than either who are currently playing. There simply seems no room in a MM team for a natural talented full back. Equally no room for a creative, influential midfielder....sort those 2 debateable problems out and you have a confirmed top 6 team.

Has bluebare actually seen Parr play?????

Perhaps Parr doesn't suck up to Mm & is probably too intelligent to play in a MM team

Parr has not been the same player since he got injured at Portman Road playing for Palace. He was a top class fullback before then, but for whatever reason it's gone down hill for him. No ones fault, it just happens sometimes! Mick prefers Knudsen so I'm happy to go with that.

Really unfortunate for Parr that he always seems to be injured and can't gather any momentum to stay in the side. I honestly think he's a much better full back on both sides than Knudsen and Chambers but they seem to be more reliable with their fitness levels. I'd be sad to see him go but he hasn't really helped us get where we are this season anyway.

....... he's had a raw deal here - as good a player as he is, it's a travesty of justice that he is not playing regularly.

He could, and should, have been doing just that with us - shame to lose such a player but he needs, and deserves better.

I like Parr, but just to balance a few of the comments I am sure Mick McCarthy knows what he is doing. The Knudsen-Berra-Smith-Chambers back four only conceded one goal over the Christmas period, and it was Chambers who scored the winner against QPR. All four have kept fit and worked hard all season, so a bit of praise for them maybe.
