Winger Tommy Oar’s agent says Town’s style of play didn’t suit the Australian international, who left Portman Road after his contract was terminated at his request last Friday.

The 24-year-old joined the Blues on a free transfer in the summer having left Dutch side FC Utrecht, but made only four Town starts - just one in the league - and five sub appearances, scoring his only goal in the FA Cup tie against Portsmouth at Portman Road, before deciding to move on.

"When Tommy came they had a certain way of playing, but they lost a couple of games and the coach changed their style,” his agent Michael Jansen told beIN Sports Australia.

“With Tommy being a technical type of player, a more European style, he didn’t suit the play very well. Tommy just didn’t think it was working out for him."

Jansen says Oar is in no hurry to find a new club - as a free agent he can move outside the transfer window - with Australian reports suggesting a move to China is on the cards, while A-League teams, including his former side the Brisbane Roar, are also interested.

“He is relaxed about his future and has all the time in the world to sort things out,” he added.

“I cannot mention any clubs at this point but he is transfer free and a lot of interest is coming in which is normal with somebody of his status.

"We are taking it step by step. He only terminated his contract a few days ago. He’s top fit, played a week or so ago and is training by himself right now.

"The European window closes in a few days and when it does a lot of clubs will still be looking for players and much can change.

"There is a bigger chance he will go to Asia or the Middle East than back to Europe or Australia."

Jansen ruled out a move to another English club: "Ipswich treated him well and of course out of respect England is certainly a closed book for Tommy.

“[Mick] McCarthy was happy with him, the way he trained and prepared himself. He did a decent job but these things take time.

“But, if as a player, you see the way of playing [and] training aren’t working out it’s better to talk with the club and solve the problem and the club approached and dealt with things in a very decent way.”

JustSpivvyChops added 10:44 - Jan 29 Can you imagine the first few training sessions and pre match talks "ooh right then lads just 'ooof that fookin ball as far as ya can and try and get to murphs ed, ok, sorted".....when you're used to playing technical passing football this is probably a rather large shock, fair play to him for getting out early and wanting to play football somewhere. This is a reflection on the football we play at PR, not the player..............also serves as a stark warning of how unattractive a club we could now be to technical players that we are looking to sign.

fabian_illness added 10:47 - Jan 29 Our style isn't pretty but is perfectly suited to the championship, much better and a lot less frustrating than a few years ago when we would so easily get pushed off the ball and lose games in the last ten minutes week in week out. Tommy Oar obviously wasn't man enough to join the fight, look how Freddie's game has changed since he's been here, proper fighter for the cause, on his way to legend status if we can keep hold of him. Why so many negative people? We'll never be Barcelona.

Whoever is paired with Skuse, who I rate for his all round play, prefer flat passing, so if Mr Technical Oar makes himself available to receive the ball there's not one town fan who wouldn't cheer him having a run or a wee Maisey. There's some crap not being spoken about or certainly some spin from his agent

Can see where we would struggle to attract creative passing midfielders we are desperate for as supporters , opposing managers , the press and even our own players are saying we play long hoof ball football . Still personally think Sears was more of a threat when he first came and at the start of the season starting up top rather than as a winger ? And ANM has dropped away since we reverted back to the old MM style

Why can't we play football on the ground. 3rd point: MM hates statistics but what are the statistics for the ball in the air each game? 70%? Rant over..........Nurse!!!

Bert added 11:13 - Jan 29 This league is not a pretty one, it is not silky smooth football, it is tough, there are no bad teams as in previous years. Oar had something but he was not as skilled as Fraser or AMM.That's why he had few starts. His agent has to say what he did to answer the questions of clubs who may be interested in him. All teams in this league have to play so called hoofball at times but that doesn't mean it's wrong.

Lathers added 11:19 - Jan 29 Budgycrusher - our style is perfectly suited to staying in the Championship. We will never get relegated playing hoofball under MM, but equally we will never go up. If that makes you happy then fantastic, but personally I'd prefer to risk relegation to have a pop at getting promoted by trying something a bit different.
