Town Targeting Pringle on Loan
Tuesday, 9th Feb 2016 17:08

TWTD understands that Town are targeting the loan signing of Fulham winger Ben Pringle in addition to their move for former Watford man Lloyd Dyer.

The Blues are two widemen short following the recent departure of Tommy Oar and Ryan Fraser having suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday’s game at QPR. Town will confirm the extent of the on-loan AFC Bournemouth man’s problem later in the week.

We understand that discussions with Dyer, who is a free agent having settled his contract with the Hornets last week, have been ongoing over the last few days but that the terms of his deal to the end of the season have not yet been agreed.

Town were previously keen on Pringle in the summer when he was a free agent having turned down a contract at Rotherham but the 26-year-old opted to join the Cottagers on a two-year deal with an option for a further season.

Since moving to Craven Cottage the Newcastle-born wideman or central midfielder has made 15 starts and three sub appearances, scoring two goals, but his last game was on December 29th, while his most recent start came earlier that month.

Pringle joined the Millers in 2011 from Derby County, having previously been playing in non-league with Newcastle Blue Star, Morpeth Town and Ilkeston Town, after a spell with West Brom’s academy as a youngster. While with Derby he spent a spell on loan with Torquay.

Pringle, whose set pieces led to both Rotherham’s goals in their 2-0 victory over the Blues in February 2015, made 154 starts and 14 sub appearances for the Millers, scoring 22 goals, and helped them to promotion from League Two as runners-up in 2012/13 and League One via the play-offs in 2013/14.

Alright signing and better than what we have available at present . For me it is our style of play that limits the wingers who ever we had playing there . Ando came with a good rep as a wide man but was told to tuck in and defend first ?
Look at how Mahrez and Vardy have flourished this season without the shackles of Pearsons management style .

hhmmmm...2 wide players on loan possibly coming into the starting 11 at once (maybe) - certainly would take them some time to gel with some of the other players and time we don't really have as we head towards the business end of the season. Nice to see Mick is going back to square one when we had quite a lot of loanees from PJ's reign and at the time a route MM didn't want to go down, in fact he's been doing this regularly in the emergency loan period.

wondering why he isn't a starter at Fulham.. Unsure how some people can be so convinced this is a good idea

Thank God we are trying to bring people in, that's the most important thing. I know next to nothing about this player but he's got to be better than some of our first team squad (specifically players on our bench).

By all accounts he has been dreadful for Fulham when reading the their forums on him prior to our game. Not to say he wouldn't turn it around at our place but he certainly won't be missed there! Signs of desperation to me.

Wasn't overly keen in the summer TBH don't really rate him but love him to prove me wrong.

A. We won't necessarily have to pay all his hefty wages. Likelihood is we pay a percentage of them, or we pay a loan fee and agree wages with the player, I'd expect the former.

B. Have Fulham not changed mangers since he signed? Would suggest he is a casualty of that.

I see some people think Derby sacking Clement is ambition. The club has spent around £25 million quid, signed big players on big contracts (like they did last year when they didn't go up) sacked a man who has worked at a top level with world class coached and then said this is because his desire for promotion is too short term and that getting to the top flight was not the mandate this or even next season. To top it off they get an average 30k of their fans turn out to see these overpriced, over paid players such as Darren 1 goal all season Bent try not to get promoted. Meanwhile, whilst 5th they sack the one bloke at the club who wants top flight football and put the youth coach in charge?

If that's your ambition you can keep it.

Meanwhile Town have a manger who gets vilified for trying to win games and trying (and thus far succeeding) in putting the club in a position where promotion is at least still a possibility after xmas for the first time in 10 years.

10 years of having a half season. We extend the contracts of the men who have delivered a season that lasts the full 46 games and we lack ambition. Derby sack the bloke who wants it and they're full of the stuff.

Ludicrous.

COYB, come on Ben Pringle. Come and show me how wrong I am

I saw this player several times last season and he was impressive. All action and a diamond in a bucket of rubbish at Rotherham.
He will improve Town.

I find it interesting reading that there is more positivity about this move than Lloyd Dyer, who in my mind anyway is a far quicker/ better player.

Pringle was excellent when we lost 2-0 at Rotherham last season and his set pieces will improve us. I think the two of them would be a marked improvement on Niles + Toure, our only actual wide boys.

Yes to both!

I hope this comes off. He's a good players and I hope we don't hang around too long or he'll be snapped up.

Fulham have no idea what dreadful is. We need to send them Coke for a couple of games.

Thought Pringle was great in that game. He can play central midfield which will also be a huge bonus. As long as we don't have Coke and Pringles in the middle. That would be Dyer....

Neither will sign because they don't like the style of play

Can't understand why you would want to loan some crappy player from a team in the same league 12 places behind us

Neil that's a very basic approach to football. " this team is behind us so why would we want any one of their players " jesus christ some of the absolute drivel that comes out of peoples mouths on here, it's a good job I'm not eating or drinking or I'd get taken to hospital with choking on numerous occasions!

PJ yeah he was. Mick wouldn't play him centrally though, absolutely no way. Not strong enough to play CM.

some of these comments are ridiculous. Bournemouth dont want to sell Fraser, therefore the comment about taking less for Mings is just stupid.

Dyer hasn't even played this season and as you get to 33 and your reliance is on pace there can be a big difference to how you played in 2012 when he played for Leicester (when they beat us 6-0) and now. Pringle on the other hand probably would be an improvement with his set pieces now Fraser is out but both in at the same time being both left sided players?...get real

It does not bother me that he turned us down in the summer.

There could be many reasons for that and not just money----it is his right anway to get the best deal for himself and his family.

I am sure Mick is making judgements on football ability and attitude and I am just so relieved and pleased to see that at at least we are trying to do something.
