Malarczyk Joins Southend on Loan
Thursday, 24th Mar 2016 17:29

Town defender Piotr Malarczyk has joined League One Southend United on loan for the rest of the season.

“We’ve played against Piotr in a behind closed doors with Ipswich and I’m very pleased to have signed him,” Shrimpers manager Phil Brown told the Southend Echo.

“We needed another defender and Piotr is someone who has a real presence back there.”

He added: “If you want a defender with the right mentality, the right attitude you won’t go far wrong from Piotr.”

“He brings that steely mentality to the side. He’s a strong character who’s vocal and has got a presence.”

Malarczyk, 24, was signed from his hometown club Korona Kielce, where he was skipper, in August, when the Blues triggered a release clause of 50,000 zloty (around £8,500) in his contract.

But since then the former Poland U21 international, who was close to winning a senior international call-up in September, has made only three starts - all in the cups - and three Championship sub appearances.

His last Town game was the FA Cup replay defeat at Portsmouth in which he was sent off having picked up two yellow cards after conceding a penalty (above).

Recently, having been out of action for three weeks due to a kidney stone, he has been out of the Blues' senior matchday 18 and playing in the U21s side.

Despite his lack of opportunities, Malarczyk said last week that he's not ready to give up on English football with manager Mick McCarthy praising his attitude.

Malarczyk is unavailable for Southend's game at Rochdale tomorrow but will join up with their squad on Sunday and could make his debut against Sheffield United at Roots Hall next Wednesday.

The Southend squad also includes former Blues Noel Hunt and Anthony Wordsworth, as well as one-time Town loanee Tyrone Barnett, who is on loan with the Shrimpers from Shrewsbury.

So who is our back up if one of his beloved centre backs gets injured now then? He says he is doing great in training, so sends him out on loan... I don't understand Mick!

Brilliant move. Can get him some game time in a tough League and will get him used to real English football. Much better than him sitting on the bench! Plus we have digby and foley to do that for him

Classic Mick this ........ one day story bigging him up, not giving up on him, just been unlucky etc ....... next day shipping out on loan !!!!!!
Hopefully "development" for him (although as above says who is now back up ?) & look to kick on next year otherwise you have to question this transfer policy as yet another player gets signed, plays in a couple of "cup games" then gets shipped out without ever getting a run at the first team.
Get not all are going to be successful ..... but you have to start questioning Micks "spotting potential" skills if this continues.

Is there a recall clause if he were to be needed at all?
If he's not going to be anywhere near the first team, then going on loan makes sense, to get him playing proper games rather than just U21s. Still hope he'll come good, so this could be a good move to get him more used to the English game.
Good luck Piotr.

I presume we would have a 24 hour recall in place? Good luck Polish Pete, I'm sure you'll do well :)

We have Digby and Foley who can fill in at the back, they have been taking the places on the bench anyway. Makes sense to me. Give the boy some game time, you cant really question the recruitment here, he cost £8.5k. If it works its great if it doesn't, no loss. This is the same Mick who signed Mings for £10k and sold him for £8million...

Can't recall players for the first 28 days of emergency loans, but would assume there's a recall after that, Town usually include one.

I don't think we will be seeing him in a town shirt again

Great move for him. Think he needs to play games and at a lower level initially. If he does well then back for pre season and up to speed for next year. However, who other than Digby do we have as cover at the back? Foley for right back but who else if we get an injury and a suspension?

Will we next hear the plaintive cry of the McCarthy "He's a smashing lad I wish him well but he's not for me".

I feel it is telling that he has been with us for nearly a season and the esteemed organisation that is TWTD does not have a photo of him in action to illustrate this story. Anyhow pleased he will get some game time and as the photo shows we have Digby standing by.

Wussinwhiteboots

I hadn't seen your post when I change the photo! Thought the walking off picture was more appropriate for someone going off on loan.

Has anyone else tried using this site with a windows phone. Get fed up of the window closing and going back to emails. What changed in the last few months.

I think he needs the loan to adjust to English football. He has come from a different type of football and country it's going to take time to adjust...6 months isn't long enough and to be fair he hasn't played with other first team defenders regularly enough to make a proper judgement.

Thats a worry!
What will we do if one of our center backs get injured ?
Guess we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed & hope it doesn't happen or there'll be no other option but to move Chambers across & bring in a right back.................That's the last thing anyone wants!

alfromcol added 20:57 - Mar 24
At least he will get to play some quality football!

We have a great back four and don't need backup, the back four picks itself anyway.

I'm beginning to think that MM lives in a parallel world to a lot of us.

Daz, The TWTD window sometimes closes upto half a dozen times while reading it on my I-Pad, though it doesn't happen on anything else, nor does anything else close on the I-Pad, just TWTD pages. Sometimes it is so frequent you just give up!

Can't believe all these comments saying it's ok we have Digby as back up?!!!! He's not even proven at league 2 level. MM signs Yowerth and he won't return from Crawley, he signs Alabi Who was never better than the conference, Oar/Parr Left because they never got a chance, he signs The Pole and he gets farmed out to Southend, he signs Coke and Toure who are not up to Championship standard, I could go on.......Our recruitment policy is a joke. Time for a change in the board room and in the dugout.
