Injured Murphy to Return to Town
Saturday, 26th Mar 2016 16:56

Striker Daryl Murphy will return to Town having suffered what's understood to be a minor calf injury during the Republic of Ireland’s 1-0 friendly victory over Switzerland last night, the FAI have announced.

In a statement on their website, the FAI said Murphy and former Blues skipper Jonathan Walters, these days with Stoke, would be leaving the squad.

“Republic of Ireland players Jonathan Walters and Daryl Murphy are set to return to their clubs over the weekend for assessment and management of injuries.”

Murphy, who was winning his 20th cap, came on as a sub in the 27th minute after Kevin Doyle suffered an ankle injury and made way himself with a tight calf 11 minutes from time. Manager Martin O'Neill said after the game that it was only a minor problem.

The 33-year-old Blues frontman recently missed the games against Nottingham Forest and Bolton due to a calf problem.

Ireland face Slovakia in a second friendly at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin on Tuesday.

Hopefully all well for Wolves, the last thing we need is yet more injuries.

Not good but playoffs over for us I think

At least he'll avoid any further injury by not playing in their 2nd game, and if it's just a minor one, won't keep him out for us too long, if at all.

Let's see how it goes. Pitman and sears up front? Not the end of the world with Dids back.

Depends how we play jas0999. Pittman and Sears will struggle if we are intending to rocket launch the ball up the pitch in our usual fashion. Varney is our only other target man but he won't last the full 90 mins.

The play-offs are not over for us. Agreed they are unlikely, but let's not throw in the towel just yet!

It's just a feeling that this season has not seen us move on . Too many injuries and no major incoming players of real quality

Well with Murphy injured it means his main target for his hoofball tactics is missing. So maybe there will be less hoofball and a little more football.

If it is a minor calf strain then he should be fine for next Saturday but tend to agree that is pretty irrelevant as I think the playoff are out of reach now. Anyway might be good to see Sears and Pitman up front with Feeney and Pringle out wide

We're only 4points off with 8 games left how are the playoffs out of reach??

Hopefully he's okay for next week, will be good to see M and M back together!

In a perverse way , this might actually be good as it will force Mick to play the ball on the deck , to feet since we will havd no target man to hoof it to. Get Foley in the team, and Feeney, and ge the ball in the box to Sears and Pitman.

Realistically, we are not going to get many points from the away game, and our home form is not inspiring. Its better to plan for next season and take whatever comes our way for the rest of this one.

Actually Harrys H... with our vastly inferior goal difference we are in effect 5 points off the play-0ffs. Not mathematically impossible, but its not looking at all good is it, really think we have blown it!

HOOF or no hoof little hoof big hoof does it really matter , we are in with a shout of the play-offs.Keep up the play we have been playing one of these days one of these HOOFS will score us a goal !!!!
We are doing better than sides below us the table proves the point not as good as above.Take one game at a time if we win its ok if we draw we tried and if we lose we lost but can only try .
We arent without a shout just need to keep trying .
GAME ON !!!!

If Feeney, Pringle and Foley are playing I would prefer Murphy on the pitch as the service he would be getting should be better than the crap he's had to live off this season. When proper wingers are on the pitch you need a Murphy!

Looking at things in a very black and white view the ultimate goal is promotion, that's needed for a purely monetary thing, how we achieve it is unimportant to the club.
To the majority of fans that's a different issue, the benifits of a season in the premiership because that's all it would be outweigh any fans hope of us seeing attractive football being played.
We don't have the personnel to out play the top teams consistently in this division, and any monetary windfall from promotion would only reduce the debt carried by ME.
We may see the benifits of the parachute payments to bolster the playing staff for a more positive push for another attempt at promotion, probably as good as it will get. But it still bugbears me how we set ourselves up against certain opposition and come away with no points and very little credibility. Let's believe we are the team playing at home for a change and let the opposition worry about us for once.
I just hope that we stop the safe approach and give ourselves the chance to reach the top six.

Every year we start planning "for the next season" and it aint worked for years-----main reason amongst a lot being the lack of proper investment in quality players.

My start of the planning process would be to get a new owner in who actually cares and wants to take this club FORWARD.

He'll have an excuse to play another defender if Murph's injured!

I like Murphy but I feel we play better football without him.
The long ball up to him has gone

Bedsitfc you can't have seen that many games without him. We look worse than we do with him at times. Murphy has had more people stopping him this season compared to last and the service to him does not help.
