Andre Speechless After Debut Goal
Saturday, 16th Apr 2016 20:22

Andre Dozzell was speechless after scoring on his Blues debut aged only 16, just as his father Jason did when he made his senior bow back in 1984.

Dozzell junior flicked home a header from a Liam Feeney cross as Town drew 1-1 at Sheffield Wednesday aged 16 years and 350 days.

Jason, who remains the youngest player to score in the top flight, netted on his debut, also having come on as a substitute, aged only 16 years and 57 days as the Blues beat Coventry 3-1 in the old First Division in February 1984.

“I’m a bit speechless right now,” former Copleston High School pupil Andre told the club site.

“When I scored I really didn’t know what to do but I’ve been at this club for seven years so to make my debut and get a goal was unbelievable.

“It’s exactly what my dad did as well, made his debut and scored at 16, so I’m extremely proud of that.

“I haven’t managed to look at my phone yet but I’m sure I’ll have a few messages from everyone.

“My dad was here today in the crowd so hopefully I’ll see him afterwards and hopefully he’ll be proud of me.

“It was my goal at the start of the season to break into the first team, so to get my chance and to score was a moment I won’t forget.”

Great goal Andre - nice piece of history for the family too with both of you scoring on your debuts.

A star in the making - and not far of just now.

Well done Sir - today was a great football story, not just a great Ipswich story. Can't imagine how you and your Dad must feel.

The game changed when Andre Dozzell came on 2nd half. Really good mf. After he scored, I turned around and noticed Jason Dozzell sitting a few rows up. To say he was very pleased was an understatement. A proud moment for him and the club. Saw Ian Milne on train on my way back to London.

My personal highlight of the season so far. I think a huge pat on the back should go to Bryan Klug. He produces young lads time and time again. Hopefully Mick will give these boys more of a chance from now on. Congratulations Andre, hope there's many more to come!

Seeing his dad after the game suggests the rumours he is estranged from his dad are a bit wide of the mark!

Future star. Him and Bishop together in the team next year would be great!

Chuffed to have seen both goals! I shook Jasons hand before the game too and said that he must be proud if Andre makes his debut.

Well Done Andre!...lovely having another record and piece of history being created by ITFC.
Has anything like this ever been done B4, a father and son both scoring on Debut's as 16 year olds for the "same club"?

This is the Direction our club needs to be heading, playing more of our home grown Talent, playing more football, not trying to gain promotion playing" ugly" percentage football with other teams youngster, loan players, has beens and journey men! I really believe that exciting football played with more of our own would sell more tickets even if more seasons of second tier football. I think i speak for the majority when i say, its not success i crave its the excitement of a game of football being played in the traditions on Ipswich town !

Enjoy the remainder of the weekend everyone.

Spirit of 78.. this is a wonderful fantastic story and we should celebrate it, its made my weekend it really has. But please remember that one swallow doesnt make a summer! I would love as all town fans would for this to be the start of something big. Fingers crossed and all that but lets just wait and see shall we.

WE NEED MORE THINGS TO CHEER! in the main its been a poor season with very little to cheer!

got to agree with Ipswich, good to see him score but that will prob just excite ME ,by adding to price tag.People may say otherwise ,but seen too much talent shipped out in past without us benefiting from them playing. We have an academy with decent prospects, but sign has beens .

Well done son great stuff scoring on your debut.
Hopefully he'll be the man we have missed since Leadbitter to pull the strings in midfield. Surely get rid of the dead wood of Hyam & Douglas in midfield.
Also see McDonell was on the bench, another one surely to get his chance next season😃

I'm delighted for Andre, fantastic for him. It's lovely to at last have something to look forward to next season. It feels like the average age of our squad* has been growing for some time and there has been a real lack of youth, so if Dozzell (and Bishop) can play regularly next season that would be a real boost.

* yesterday's starters: 28, 30, 26, 31, 23, 27, 33, 31, 29, 26, 28. Average age = 28.
