Town Among Clubs Eyeing Boro's Forshaw
Thursday, 30th Jun 2016 15:52

Town are understood to be among a number of Championship clubs monitoring Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Forshaw’s situation.

The 24-year-old could be made available for loan with his opportunities with Premier League new boys Boro likely to be limited in the season ahead.

Sheffield Wednesday have previously been linked and several other Championship clubs are also believed to be interested.

Liverpool-born Forshaw started his career with Everton having joined the Toffeemen as a seven-year-old but after making only one start and one sub appearance joined Brentford initially on loan in February 2012, before making the switch permanent the following summer.

The 5ft 8 ½in tall central or right midfielder made a big impression with the Bees and in the summer of 2014 he joined Wigan Athletic for a fee understood to be in the region of £2 million. But after only six months with the Latics Forshaw moved on to his current club for a similar fee.

Since then Forshaw, who is contracted until the summer of 2018, has made 19 starts and 35 sub appearances for the Teessiders, scoring two goals with former Blues skipper Grant Leadbitter and Adam Clayton having established themselves in his preferred central midfield role.

Town boss Mick McCarthy said on Monday he was looking to add loan players to his squad but with no deals imminent.

Another central midfielder, really? Unless Mick's planning on putting another square peg in a round hole and playing him as a right midfielder?

Certainly room for a couple of season long loans in the side and this would certainly be a good addition. Still disappointed that we aren't (reportedly) looking to make permanent signings as although most clubs will rely on a couple of loanees, you are unlikely to succeed with too many. Currently, we have a fairly small squad in terms of numbers and quality. This would be a promising addition though.

Not exactly the flying winger we were hoping for, and not really a very inspiring rumour. Sure Mick knows what he wants to do this window and hope he can get the players he believes will take us to the top six, would rather a permanent signing like Harriott though!

This kid is a top official player. Defo the ins we should be looking at. Prefer permanent deal tho.

Hallelujah, at last we are looking at a midfielder, don't think he will come though. But I t would certainly give us options for how we play. If the above report is correct he is a CENTRAL midfielder.

To my mind the priorities are a right-back and two wingers. If we need another central midfielder I'd rather go for Williams ( fitness permitting). I agree that permanent signings are to be preferred to loans as loans seem just to develop others young players and block opportunities for our own.

Put this lad alongside bish in the centre of the park and I would be very content with that! I can't handle another season of seeing skuse/Douglas partnership! Offer absolutely no service for our strikers but also agree with fellow posters we have to have some attacking flair down the flanks.. The lad harriott would be a good addition.. Someone who can beat a full back is something that gets us fans off our seats (Fraser) let's hope for a productive summer in the transfer market and give it another go next season.. COYB!!!

Similar style of player to Pringle - what's happened to him btw?

Were not going to sign Williams so why keep banging on about him. This guy would definitely be better than what we have so would welcome him even if its only on loan for a season.

Defiantly get this done would love to see Douglas become the tabb of last season but I'm sure it won't happen. If we get Forshaw in he would definitely be above Douglas/coke in the pecking order for sure (excuse the pun)

Him with bish Dozzell coming through aswell would be great. As others said it would be nice to have a permanent deal but that doesn't look like it would be an option especially if it was around 2mill which is what they paid for him.

If there are other clubs interested then he won't be coming here....

100%. Should have stumped up the cash and signed him and Matt Ritchie when there was the opportunity too...

Would be an excellent addition but depends who else wants him & perhaps more importantly where he would like to go

Good player but don't really need another cm. If mick plays him on the right mid then he could be a good addition to the team. Reckon weds will get him anyway!!

Why don't people on here read the story correctly before commenting. It clearly says he's a central or a right midfielder so can fill both roles

What's the point of having a midfield. A decent back 4, plenty of hoof, and the forwards do the rest. Did I really say that?

Oh my God!!! This is a joke right? I'm living in a ground hog situation .We interested in a central midfielder ,who has probably helped out prevouise clubs by playing on the right out of positoin.MM gets a whiff of this and the light bulb goes off.I know I'll get him in and play him out of his favoured positoin just to make a signing.Good lord does MM never learn or what's sadder is I don't .Im the one who said yer lets renew! To my dad.weve heard the club will invest ,with funds that have been made available .Lessons have been learnt.Have thr f..k!!! Here we go again ,round peg in square hole. Its not going to work over an entire season. At this level clubs no your weakness and a player out of positoin is a weak spot against the top teams.Whom we have to beat at least at home to have a chance.I think Villa,Newcastle and scum up the road will be terrified of our threat down the right .We need an out and out winger .Playing on his right side (right footed) or left( left footed) to get on the outside and behind defences. This turns the defending team and our crosses will be more dangerous.Ronaldo can cut in Bale can cut even Townsend can do it but free signs and loans are not those players.Round pegs ,round holes.Simple

No thanks! Don't need another Douglas, Skuse , Hyam and Coke all sideways and backwards and gives nothing else. We need creativity and pace!

Is it possible to overreact any more on what is at this stage a story?

More hysteria than a gang of 1d fans being told Hare Styles new haircut is $h!t. Have you lot got your man periods being England flopped like a cliff diver with a back spasm again or what?

Can we put a ban on the phrase 'Town among clubs viewing'? Cheers

'eyeing' rather. Or both? Actually, can we include 'In the hunt for' and 'in the market'. Wishful thinking I know, but my soul cant take any more rejection.

This is all very droll and boring---I want to be linked with keen hungry strikers who are young and set to go, or Luke Freeman from Bristol City.

Still early days yet though.

Why would we want a player that obviously is not wanted by Boro...
