Ward: Town My First Choice
Monday, 1st Aug 2016 15:49

New signing Grant Ward says he opted to join Town ahead of interest from other Championship clubs. The 21-year-old signed a three-year deal with an option for a further season earlier this afternoon, the Blues and Tottenham having agreed a fee understood to be in the region of £500,000.

“There was some interest from other clubs but as soon as I knew Ipswich wanted me, they were always going to be my first choice,” the winger or central midfielder told Ipswich Player HD.

“I know about the history of the club. It’s a big club. I know about the manager and he made it clear he was eager for me to come here. That was a big thing in me signing.

“I have been on loan a few times and obviously came through the youth ranks at Tottenham and it’s a big decision for me to leave them but it felt the right time for me to go.

“Looking at the future, it would be nice to have a chance to play in the Premier League one day. Hopefully I can do that with Ipswich.

“We’ve got a good squad here and getting in the play-offs is the target. I’m here to play my part in that.”

Ward, who will wear the number 18 shirt, confirmed that he played under Bryan Klug during the Town academy director’s time working in the Spurs youth set-up.

“Bryan was my manager at Tottenham at U15 level and gave my scholarship when I was 16,” he recalled.

“He’s a nice guy and always gave good references about Ipswich so it will be good to be working at the same club as him.”

Ward only returned to training after three weeks out with a minor injury last week, but was out on the field with his new team-mates today.

Now I am really looking forward to Saturday.
This is the season when our own home grown talent begins to change the face of our playing style.

That is my current mind set, I will hopefully still feel the same by November, if I am then my misses will be needing to sedate me.

We do need to be a lot less fragile and "milky" at the back.

Good signing of the type we should aim at - Young & Ambitous. The Palace lad would be similar. Better than a Stephen Hunt or Luke Varney - honest pros but at end of careers

I understand the negativety after last years performances but still think MM and the lads deserve the chance to put that right...

If you can't be positive in August we have no chance..

Grant Ward? Hail Hydra (please tell me someone gets the reference). Great to see us finally using a bit of the money from Mings sale and looks like a great looking deal. An actual wide midfield and young. Got young player and goal of the year for Rotherham last year and has Brian Klug seal of approval which is always a good thing for young players. Welcome Grant

Now we could do with an actual right back and another wide midfielder (maybe loan) and I think we will be sorted

Welcome and good work Klug. But its not the players we've got, its the style of play that gives me biggest concern. Its about time MM played his players in their best positions and not try to fit in his favourites at the cost of the team's balance.
Sideways and backwards and then hoof doesn't work any more
He's got two young full backs so use them.
He's got attacking midfielders in Bish and Mcg so use them
He's got forwards but stop playing Sears out wide.

If he can't or wont then just go so we can enjoy our football again

happybeingblue - Is he any relation of yours Kev, good to see that we are still able to tempt young blood into PR, I've never heard of him, I don't know anything of him, but I am looking forward to seeing him play. But then again I was looking forward to seeing Stewart in the friendly on Saturday.
I take it that MM was only bigging him up, and now we have a winger he's back on the scrap heap.

Welcome Grant hope you enjoy your football with us if Mick allows you two and not turn you into a defensive midfielder not allowed to cross the halfway line......i like the quote as soon as i knew town were in for me i choose Ipswich straight away,,,okay i will make up my own mind on that,,but sincerely wish you well .

Excellent, I was delighted to read this especially after initially thinking it would be just a loan. He could be a great investment and I now look forward to the season that bit more than I did yesterday.

Good positive signing for the club at a good time to boost at the start if season . Hopefully he can fulfil his undoubted potential with us .
But I would say to the MM gloaters tonight thinking we have signed Neynar let's wait and see as MM signing of wingers so far for Town have been poor

Great signing! What a difference a day makes. One signing was all we wanted and the spirits of all town fans have been lifted. We still need a couple more however, but this is a small statement of intent from Marcus and Mick, and should be commended. Roll on Saturday!

No comment in truth. Good to get some new blood in and will never question MMs ability to spot talent or pick up a bargain given the outstanding piece of business for Mings but I'm probably as ambivalent about this as I was the Mings signing given I've never seen him play.

For me this hopefully suggests Sears will play up top more but Grant could equally be another AMN under Mick if the style doesn't change. Here's hoping the next signing is a left winger who can cross a ball, a right back who can get forward and defend or a CM who can truly boss a game.

Welcome aboard Grant. Bags of potential so let's hope MM and TC can bring him on.
A couple of good loans or even signings and with Bish and McGoldrick fit we could maybe dare to talk about a top 6.?

Good Luck Grant Ward Welcome to Portman Rd.

Just need a Proven Right Back now.

Dissboyitfc added 07:02 - Aug 2
Knightsy.... agreed a proven right is essential, but i think we need more than "just" a right back.

Still some good news for a change!
