No Surgery for McGoldrick But Pitman, Grant and Hyam All Miss Wolves
Monday, 15th Aug 2016 13:38

Town boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that striker David McGoldrick won’t require surgery on his ankle injury but still faces up to 10 weeks on the sidelines. Brett Pitman and Conor Grant are also unavailable for tomorrow’s game at Wolves, while Luke Hyam is out for three more weeks with his knee problem.

McGoldrick, 28, saw a specialist earlier today regarding the injury he suffered soon after coming on as a half-time sub against Stevenage last Tuesday.

“He doesn’t need an operation, he’ll wear a boot for three to four weeks to let it settle down so he can’t walk on it while it stabilises,” McCarthy said.

“He’ll have some sugar injections in it which helps the ligament heal and strengthen and tighten. And then he’ll be in his rehab.

“He’s probably eight weeks to 10 as opposed to 10 to 12 to 14. While it’s still bad news, it’s better news than it could have been. He’s not having an operation.”

The Blues manager says fellow frontman Pitman is still suffering with his thigh injury and won’t travel to Molineux: “Norwich at best. He’s not ready for tomorrow. He went out and did some training and he felt it slightly.

“So he stopped and we’re back to just getting him to where he doesn’t feel it at all. Fingers crossed he’s going to be ready and available for the Norwich game.”

He added: “Conor Grant has trained really well this morning and then he’s come off and he’s got a tight groin, so he’s not available for tomorrow night. We’re looking a bit bare, I have to be honest.”

McCarthy confirmed that last week’s re-signing Luke Varney will travel - “He’s in the squad” - but says Hyam remains out.

“He’s probably going to be out for another three weeks,” the Town boss continued. “He had nerve conduction tests and we’re just going to have to accept that we’re going to have leave him and hopefully it’ll settle down and he’ll be back.”

McCarthy says no new additions are imminent and played down suggestions that his presence at the Arsenal-Reading U23s game on Friday might mean there's a possibility of Ainsley Maitland-Niles returning for a second loan: “I’ve never had that discussion with him, so I wouldn’t know.”

McCarthy could always try Cameron Stewart. Don't think it will happen though not one of McCathy's little favourites.

I'm going tomorrow and fully expecting a good beating if we get away with a 3or4nil loss i wouldn't be surprised , this really isn't good enough and if slugless plays things will be worse. Personally I would play kenlock dozzell and bishop youth is our only hope not slugless or scuse

You would think if evans is going to own a championship team he would actually have the players to play in it.

Quite right superblue changing now for the future. MM has been caught out and I don't hear him saying that there's no funds available which would put pressure on ME ! Pre season was shocking against div 2 but perhaps that's where we're heading!!

MM hasn't identified our weakness but blindly on hoping for the best. Even if he brings in loans before end of month they'll still need time to settle.

Second on opening Saturday bottom by end of month.

Just for those doubters: Here is a report on McCarthy's style of play.
McCarthy ain't changing.
Can a leopard change its spots? The answer: not if that leopard is Mick McCarthy. His Ipswich side averaged more long balls per game (98) than any team in the Championship last season, according to WhoScored.

OMG what a shambles. Supported the Blues since 1986 and did so during thick and thin and then along came Burley ably supported by Sheepshanks. Win, lose or draw under Burley we WERE entertained with a team of round pegs in round holes, shrewd signings i.e Marcus Stewart and worthy of the name Marcus to boot!!!!!!!!! I have lost the will or enthusiasm to attend and will not do so until MM has a reality check (I know I'm living in hope) or is replaced by a forward thinking manager and and likewise owner. I live close to Bristol, who have just that. I am not jumping ship yet but things really have to change, and soon.

Looking a bit thin......................give that made a prize for the most obvious observation I've ever heard! Whose fault is that, a dinosaur of a manager and an uninterested owner? Give me strength!

While i am in favour of MM effing off ASAP I think a lot of us on here are misunderstanding the ffp.The club can only spend a certain percentage of their income on transfers so low income = lower spend on players that is the reality. I am also hugely in favour of a new owner ASAP I am sure ME would spend on players IF our turnover allowed it bit it doesn't. FACT! He can't just dip into his own pocket for cash because it isn't allowed or we would end up in more debt due to fines. This is why he sponsors the shirts and has his name everywhere to legitimately put money into the club? In the same way Man City rename there stadium the Etihad to receive cash from the sponsor and thus increasing turnover though they can charge vastly more than ITFC! We have to face it? We are a small club with a small budget and a shxx manager.we could do much better on our budget with a younger more enthusiastic man at the helm in straddling of a dinosaur who is waiting for his pension!

Well I have been saying this for the past 18 Months but keep getting shouted down by that Essex idiot and his bunch of followers. What we need is a concerted effort to get the Evans PLC OUT. Are the supporters of this club so apathetic they are past caring? There need to be demonstrations, walk outs or whatever it takes. And just think on this, Boring Billy would not last 5 Minuets with new and committed owners

It is time for Nydam and a few other youth players to be given numbers to play in the first team. I know it's not ideal. As others have pointed out, our 21 and 18 development squads have had exceptionally poor results the last couple of seasons. I haven't seen any of these matches but it sounds as if we have lost a few of our bright stars from the youth set-up. I did watch Sudbury and Hadleigh and it fills me with horror that this could be what we have to do.

Nydam, Morris, Blanchfield and co should all be training with the first team to get used to our type of football and to get used to the other players strengths and weaknesses. I am starting to fear for us this season.

Sorry to sound negative as I usually stand with ArnieM and co holding up the flag for our team.

It is not disloyal for fans of the club to want to get rid of an inept. clueless, negative hoofball 'manager'. It is the onw single realistic improvement that could br made.
Lets start to demand this at games
McCarthy OUT
