Varney Over Hamstring Injury
Wednesday, 26th Oct 2016 18:02

Striker Luke Varney says he’s over the hamstring injury which has hampered him for the last month having played the full 90 minutes for the U23s in Monday’s 1-0 home defeat to Cardiff City.

The 34-year-old, who is in his third spell with the Blues and who scored the winning goal in the 1-0 win at Derby, picked up the injury early on in the U23s game against Leeds last month, returned to action as a late sub against Huddersfield at the beginning of October and featured in a couple of U23s games before suffering a setback.

"I'm feeling good and it was important for me to get 90 minutes under my belt for the U23s on Monday night," Varney told Ipswich Player HD.

"It was frustrating that I came back twice and broke down. I wish I had waited a little bit longer and got myself right, but these things happen and I think I'm clear of it now.

"The timing of the injury was disappointing because I felt I did well in the games against Derby and Aston Villa in particular, but that's football for you.

"I just need to get that match sharpness back now, but that will come soon enough. I just want to get back out on the pitch and help the team as much as I can really.”

Varney and other members of the squad, ex-players and coaching staff, including manager Mick McCarthy, spent Wednesday at the Town Golf Day at Stoke by Nayland.

Meanwhile, talks between former Blues caretaker-boss and coach Ian McParland and League of Ireland club Galway United have broken down.

The Scot, a member of Roy Keane's Town staff, had been expected to be confirmed the Tribesmen's new manager.

Thank God. We now have a Target Man.

We can't use injuries as an excuse for not performing any more then, all our attacking players are fit and the remaining players on the treatment table (Smith, Hyam, Coke) probably wouldn't be in the side anyway. It's time to see what we can do over the coming matches.

So Pitman's back as well, Mark?

Agree with most of what you say, but think Smith and Hyam would both be getting game time right now. Apart from Pittman though, we do have a (close to) fully fit squad.

Agree^

Hyam should be in the team when he is fully fit ahead of Douglas if Mick loves playing these two defensive midfielders. Do anyone actually know why we signed Coke?

Whilst not the most technically gifted players - we miss Hyam dreadfully!
Works hard, tackles well, passes well and gives a real drive forward to the team!

Back the blues. Hyam gives a real drive forward to the team? He's the most negative player we have. And simply isnt good enough. Playing as a lone holding midfielder, he ok but not in same side as Skuse.
