McCarthy: I've No Intention of Walking Away From Contract at This Moment
Thursday, 9th Mar 2017 15:16

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he has no intention of walking away from his Blues contract as things stand, despite admitting that he’d hate to come back to Portman Road at the start of 2017/18 with season ticket sales well down.

Despite having been undefeated in seven games - six draws and one win - Town were booed at the end of Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Wolves but McCarthy wasn’t too annoyed or surprised by the reaction.

“Not really, we didn’t play [well in] the second half,” he said. “I thought we were the better team in the first half, they may have had more passes, but we had the better chances in the first half.

“Josh crossed one, Tom did, we had a chance just before half-time with Tom and Didz, and Bart hadn’t made a save at that point.

“We started the second half really well and it just went away from us. To be fair, they’re a good side and their away record is better than their home record.

“I kind of get used to that, I’ve said before I’m a bit ambivalent towards it. If it’s directed at me I’m not that bothered about it any more.

“But I’m bothered about it being about it being at the players and I’m bothered about how supporters feel about their club because players and managers and coaches come and go but the club will always be here.

“And I think it’s sad when people start to feel ambivalent about the club. There wasn’t a good crowd there and I understand it, we’re not doing as well as they’d like us to be. So no, I’m not angry or upset about it at all.”

McCarthy, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2018 with the club having an option for a further two seasons, said in January that he would consider his future in the summer. Will that kind of reaction from fans have a bearing on what he decides to do?

“I’m not walking away from my contract, I’ve no intention of doing that, not at this moment anyway,” he said.

“But, as I said before, I’d also hate to be coming in here with 12,000 or 10,000 season tickets or something when we’ve been used to far better if that’s down to me.

“But having said that, you can start that way and you win two or three games at the very start and people come back. It’s generating that.

“What we’ve got to try and generate is that feelgood factor now before the end of the season if we can do it.”

Has it really come to this - counting the amount of "crosses" we get into the box?!!!!

What next?...throw ins?

What on earth has happened to our club? 😔

B*gger just when you think it couldn't get any worse.

"we had the better chances in the first half"

We had one (off target) shot in the first 45mins. We only had three shots all match.

I was waiting for a decision from the club before I renewed.
That's me out then, I'm sure I can put my Saturday afternoons and Tuesday evenings to good use starting in May.
I will reconsider once the dinosaur has left. Or maybe I will find life is better without the travel, expense and heartache that goes with supporting this club home and away is something I can do without...RIP

And we feel like that because of you Mr.McCarthy
It's because of you, we have apathy towards our club and it's players.
And it's because of you, and you inability to risk winning a game and inability to proact instead of react that we find ourselves bored sh1tless.

Yes prices are too high - owners fault
Yes you haven't had any money to spend - owners fault

But the turgid sh1te that team turns out each week, the poor tactics, the awful substitutions and the reigning in of free flair players is down to you.

It had all been pleasant up until the Norwich game of late, but we should have won the last 2 games - and yet we settle for points against :

"Teams that were very good and their position doesn't reflect how good they are" - said about every team ever!!!

I'm BORED!!! And I don't usually say it, but I want change!!!

AS things are, the fans are clapping throw ins and cheering Corners ???
So with Dino coming out with that statement today, the Sales of season tickets are going to be very, very slow !!!!! So be prepared Dino.

I can't say I dislike MM. But after Wolves in the post match interview when he said he thought we were more likely to lose than win towards the end that's when he lost me totally. That attitude is disgraceful. Wolves should have been there for the taking.

Something has got to change. The club is in complete limbo and stagnating. I'm tired of the spin and nonsense that comes out the club. Somebody needs to sort it out.

Another nothing, dull season like this one cannot be allowed to happen.

So let me get this straight - he won't walk away from his contract but he would hate to be here if there are not a lot of season ticket renewals. Is this blackmail? Do we make our payments behind the hot water pipes, third washroom along, Victoria Station?

Of course he wont go of his own accord as long as he can stay and rake in the money.

Stands to reason, but the way he reacts to questions and the fans,he thinks we are a load of carrot crunching tossers.

He has no commitment to this club and is only here for the money.

At other clubs, where the fans are less docile, and more commited there would be demonstrations;but here in sleepy Suffolk a lot of the fans just fade away and don't renew their season ticket.

A very sad state for this club to be in,and despite what the Dino says, dont think it would bother him if crowds dropped drastically,as he could still take his salary home to Kent.

Foxtrot Oscar Mick but I wouldn't bet on it!

The club has an option for a further two seasons after next... WOW! Another three years of Mick at the helm of Town and I think I will have completely forgotten what football even is? Let alone just lost all interest. Apparently Barcelona did something pretty amazing last night. I wouldn't know as I've just about lost all interest in the beautiful game at the moment.

How big is this puffed up losers Yorkshire ego?

How can it possibly be down to Mid table Mick to decide??

one win in 13, like to finish in the bottom 6, failed in cups, failed in derbies, failed in terms of goals, entertainment, style of play, bringing players through. Failed academy.

And next year all best loanees gone. half team not under contract. major players jumping ship. leaving club completely in disarray and going nowhere.

Failed to build anything at he club over 4 years. Sucked £4m+ out of the club but spent most of his time in Brockley. Failed to get team ready for first game of season. Had to sign 7 players in January to avert meltdown.

Yet the wunderkind Mick McCarthy decides whether he stays or not?? He's not thinking he might ever get the sack. Where are you ME?

The whole clubs stinks of failure , complacency and greed.

SACK MIck Now!!!!

He might as well go now then because thets about the number who will be turning up next seasonn as things stand,,,and two or three 1-0 wins will not change much.if he thinks he will and see what happens he is more of a selfish moron than i thought ,,,self,,self, self, sod the fans sod the club i am the man.

Why all the negativity... honestly you guys are so fickle, remember he is the Messiah that saved us 4 years ago. So what he plays 7 defensive players against Wolves, he saved us 4 years ago.. so what the entertainment is shocking, he saved us 4 years ago.. so what, well you get the gist...

You can't blame him from not walking away from a financial point of view, either from loss of wages or a compensation package (as much as I would like him to!!), it just does not work like that, specially with a stubborn & arrogant manager who has no emotional ties with the club. Looking at the bigger picture why was he offered a contract extension when things were already on the decline ,IMO???. If he stays the season then ST's will undoubtedly be down for next year, and if he stays normal service will be resumed (BORING), hopefully only for the short term though. So all in all a no win situation.

@swn, are you really that daft?
The CLUB is a structure and a brand. Thus fans will always stay loyal to it!
It's the PEOPLE that currently own and manage this structure and brand that fans have lost total faith in!

Cakeman added 16:51 - Mar 9
Britannia man you are spot on. I see people around md applauding for what you have mentioned and this has shocked me. Has our entertainment really come to that.
It would be likened to when I was working in the office and picked up a pen without dropping it.
I must add that for the first time ever Mr and Mrs Cakeman are seriously questioning whether we want to renew our season tickets. We are Blue to the core but travelling to and from Lowestoft each home game to watch what we have Seen over the last 18 months plus is now taking its toll.
Sadly it is not just a change of manager that will change our thoughts but without doubt a change of owner too.
Without that I will be spending next seasons Saturday afternoons in the Anglian Combination at the grounds of Beccles and Bungay.

Have started thinking dragging my 12 year old to matches may be counterproductive and my 11 years of brain washing may just result in him walking away.....with justification.

He knows we are not Barca, but for crying out loud, what team plays any sport with such lack of intent to win?! I have what is left of a 20 year debenture, but I was happy with it not being used on Tuesday, along with his season ticket - and no regrets there.

I will say this again, this kind of rubbish, week in and week out, will cost us a generation of fans that could irreparably damage our Club for decades to come. ME and MM are just a terrible combination for the fans. WE NEED CHANGE
