McCarthy Pleased With Spence
Thursday, 6th Apr 2017 16:10

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’s very pleased with the impact January signing Jordan Spence has made since he joined the club and will talk to the 26-year-old about a new contract once the Blues’ are mathematically safe.

Right-back or wing-back Spence, released by the MK Dons last summer, initially joined the Blues on trial in September and October and eventually signed a short-term deal in January.

“I’m very pleased him,” McCarthy said. “Considering he came in right at the start of the season and I let him go. It got to the January window and he came back in and I thought he had the bit between his teeth then.

“It’s hard coming in on trial, do you really want to tackle people or compete. He came in in the January window and he was different again.

“I don’t have to talk him up because he’s played most of the games. Since he’s got in he’s done really well. I thought he was excellent on Tuesday night.”

Will the former West Ham youngster, who has said he is enjoying his time at Town and would welcome the chance to stay for a longer spell, have to wait until the close season for talks regarding new terms? “Let’s hope it’s not until the summer before we know we’re safe mathematically and then we can talk to him.”

Why wait until mathematically safe - isn't he the kind of player we'd need whether we're in the Championship or League One, and wouldn't be on a massive wage, I wouldn't have thought?
I've liked the look of him, so hope he, along with Huws, are tied down for next year.

He came in ,,were getting desperate because no players were being signed and you had to get someone who no one wanted along with a few others likewise..Josh did just as good a job at RB but you had to push him out to accommodate him.

One of our most consistent performers since January, he's strong, brings the ball forward and can play. Rightly ahead of Josh at this moment in time and competition between the 2 will only be good for the club moving forward. Certainly deserving of a forward contract.

I'm really impressed with Spence. Passionate about playing and can run with the ball into good positions.

Hopefully ME and MM won't wait till the end of the season when another team could come along and make a better offer having seen him playing for a Town.
