Friday, 16th Jun 2017 15:20

Town and the Supporters Club have been awarded certificates recognising their commitment towards dementia awareness.

Elizabeth Edwards, who is leaving her position as chair of the Supporters Club to increase her involvement in roles with Town, recently attended an event at the Mayor’s Parlour on what was the first day of the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Awareness Week where she accepted a certificates on behalf of the Blues and ITSC from outgoing Ipswich mayor, Roger Fenn.

The club was also presented with a sticker which will be displayed at Portman Road showing that Town is one of a number of local organisations and businesses working towards becoming dementia friendly.

Town are committed to helping those living with dementia and is a member of the Ipswich Dementia Action Alliance (IDAA).

""The club’s activities also form part of the Alzheimer’s Society’s #TeamDementiaFriends campaign which involves football clubs and fans.""

For further information on how to get involved and how to become a Dementia Friend, contact Elizabeth Edwards via officialitsc@btinternet.com.

Top work, a horrible disease that robs people of their dignity.

As well as those mentioned above, Liz Edwards and the Supporters club were also very involved in arranging the Legends evening with Matt Holland and Terry Butcher, held over at Ram Meadow, along with the Legends match, raising money for the My WiSH Charity's Forget-Me-Not Dementia Campaign. It's good that this work has been recognised in this way. Well done Liz and all involved.
