Moore Joins Up With Rotherham in Austria
Monday, 10th Jul 2017 10:33

Blues striker Kieffer Moore has joined up with Rotherham United on their pre-season tour of Austria, manager Mick McCarthy having confirmed that the 24-year-old and right-back Josh Emmanuel, 19, are on the verge of loan moves to the Millers following Saturday’s 5-0 friendly win at Drogheda United.

Moore, who scored the Blues' fourth goal at United Park, was spotted training with the Rotherham squad evidently having linked up with them at the end of Town’s week in Ireland. Emmanuel was not spotted.

The Millers play Austrian side Floridsdorfer AC tomorrow and Hungarian team Soproni VSE on Saturday during an eight-day training camp.

Speaking after Saturday's match McCarthy said the move is to give the pair first-team football, which they won't get at Portman Road once the season starts.

“They both need to play games," he said. "And I don’t want Josh here as a substitute coming on and playing a bit part, he needs to go and play to improve, as does Kieffer.

“Neither of them will start in front of Jordan Spence or whoever else is starting up front. I think it’s really important that they get football.

“You benefit from getting week in, week out football. I remember it myself when you start and you play. Thankfully I got in the team and I was in every week and it just improves you every week.”

He added: “[Josh is] going until the January window and we’ll see how he does. Hopefully he’s ripping it up and we want to have him back. The only way he’s going to get better is by playing.

“They’re season-long loans but there’s a break clause in them. You’ve got to put that in because if you don’t then they get stuck there if they’re not playing or if they’re ripping it up and I want them back.

“Why would I even think about not having something to bring them back? But I’ll only bring them back if I want to play them.”

The rest of the Blues squad flew back to Suffolk yesterday and will be back in training at Playford Road today.

Think sending Moore out on loan is good, but not so sure about sending Emmanuel out is risky. We are relying on Spence to play 90 mins at RB every game. We all know he's a good player but we can also see he's always about knackered in the last 20 mins of games as he's majorly involved in most of our attacking play. Unless MM is intending to bring in another RB of course. Hope to not see Chambers there this season.

Actually makes sense what McCarthy is saying regarding Josh, however, it will be interesting to see who will back up Spence.

Prefer Josh to Jordan personally, have some faith in him and play him McCarthy, he will get better if YOU play him. Expect Knudsen to be back ahead of Kenlock again too MICK OUT

This photo looks so photoshopped - down to the static pose of the two players and their perfect hair!

Agree with comments above - good re Moore, not sure for Emannuel...

I think this story shows the position the town are in.rotherham are are touring Austria, Ipswich on tour Ireland each and every year McCarthys been at the club, who we loan out is a different matter the younger players and never given a chance bring in the 29-year-olds, the has been or never been is the way the current management think as for Josh never a full back but has potential for Centre Half

What is the issue with Emmanuel?

According to the club he is on a return clause, he will only get games and if he doesn't he will be back and that will tell you what MM thinks-he is not ready yet.

As for cover, Nydam featured at full back on Saturday and played well by all accounts, what does that tell you??

I don't think there is an issue with Emmanuel, is there?

Seems a good move to me. As you say yourself, "for cover, Nydam featured at full back on Saturday and played well by all accounts, what does that tell you??" It tells me that we've got cover for that position on the odd occasion it might be required. Rather than Josh sitting on the bench, he'll be getting games and will benefit from it, as will we.

People moan that we bring in loanees, and that we should be playing our youth instead of giving experience to another club's players, such as Fraser etc... but if we did, they'd get hardly any game time at a decent level as they wouldn't be week in, week out in the first team. At Rotherham, Josh will, which will mean we'll have a better prepared player once he comes back. Look how his spell with us benefitted Fraser once he was back and in the Bournemouth side - would he have been the same player sitting on their bench rather than being with us?

It makes sense to me.

Hoppy, I agree with you, in other threads the punters ae slaughtering MM for sending Emmanuel out on loan as we have lack of cover for Spence.

IMO he will benefit from games and that is the benefit of the move, when I saw Nydam last season he had a bit extra than his team mates and may be the break trough player that the supporters and academy need.

Even on this thread there is claim that Emmanuel is better than Spence, football is crossed with opinions but as I have said before, we have to back the clubs judgement and from what I have seen I am in agreement with MM.

Good luck Keiffer, hope it gets you up to Championship level. If not enjoy the ride.

Is it me but Town go to Ireland and play some 5th grade side but Rotherham are in Austria!
Plus the rest of the friendlies are pretty dire too. Need to play teams that will actually stretch Town.

Think it's the last we will see of Moore as he will be out of contract at the end the season hopefully
