Pay What You Want at Ipswich Wanderers
Monday, 31st Jul 2017 13:48

Ipswich Wanderers’ opening match of the season against Walsham-le-Willows at Humber Doucy Lane on Tuesday evening has been designated a promotional ‘pay what you want game’ (KO 7.45pm).

“In an attempt to promote the club and attract higher attendances, we are making the first game of the season a ‘pay what you want game’, with a suggested contribution of £6 for adults, £4 for concessions and a quid for children if they want to,” committee member Craig Suffolk told TWTD.

“But they will not be obliged to pay to watch the game and on the off chance they want to contribute more they are welcome to do so.

“Wanderers is a community club which runs a number of youth teams alongside the senior team, as well as an U18s team and a ladies' side.

“As a community club, we rely on the supporters and members to sustain and improve the club and its facilities. We regularly average 100 supporters a game.

“After finishing last season in 10th position in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division - the second highest finish in our history - we can happily make a claim to be Ipswich’s second team.

“We are hoping to push on this season, to attract higher attendances and improve the facilities of the club for the community.

“So, if people want to they can come and watch a free game of football on Tuesday. Bring the family, create a good atmosphere and hopefully enjoy it enough to return whenever Wanderers are at home and Town aren't playing or are away.”

That's a tricky one. Portman Road or Humber Doucy Lane.

Value for money suggests the latter

I wonder how much would be taken on the gate if we done this vs Brum...probably negative as people would want to be paid to watch what will probably be on display

I got offered to sign for their u18s (I'm 16) but turned it down. Seems like a great club and I regret rejecting them now...

Sometimes watching amateur footballers is great, with their small gates and their die-hard fans.

But think I'll stick to Wanderers.

Please attend this if you're in the area and available. Wanderers are a great club for the town with some vocal support and a proper non league feel, the football is often more attractive than that at PR too. Hoping for a good start to the season tomorrow and would be good to see a big crowd

Maybe Ipswich town could do this. They are the lesser team of the two
