Evans: August Couldn't Have Gone Much Better
Saturday, 26th Aug 2017 09:59

Town owner Marcus Evans has paid tribute to manager Mick McCarthy, his assistant Terry Connor, their staff and the players following the excellent start to the season and has reiterated that the Blues are looking to add another defender to their squad before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

“It couldn’t have gone much better for us in August in terms of the results and performances on the pitch and Mick, Terry, the staff and the players deserve enormous credit for what has been achieved so far,” Evans writes in a column in the programme for today’s game against Fulham.

“We were all left very disappointed by last season but I hope what you, the supporters, have seen so far from the team has given you renewed optimism for the year ahead.

“What has made the results even more rewarding is that they have come given an extensive injury and illness list that seems to grow every week.

"That has put pressure on the squad, especially at the back where we have lost Luke [Chambers], Tommy [Smith] and Adam Webster.

“I know Mick is happy with the squad we have assembled over the summer. It allows for injuries but you can’t legislate for the number we have had recently and it means that we are looking to add to the squad with another defender before the transfer window closes next week.”

Also Evans himself, who made sufficient transfer funds available for the very astute signings of Garner and Waghorn (plus Huws, whose quality we witnessed last season) and the loan of Iorfa.

It didn't need a lot, but that small increase on the last couple of summers has made a world of difference.

Ryan Kent believed to be on his way too. Now a solid centre half and things will be very rosy - and I wouldn't even mind seeing Bart tied up to a new contract!!

Recruitment looks to be good this year with the kids being given a chance as the backup. 2 years ago we bought in Toure, Coke, Douglas, Oar, Malarczyk, Yorwerth, Pitman etc, none of whom added real quality to the squad and all have now departed.

Yes just to confirm Ryan Kent isn't on his way. A fake Stuart Watson Twitter account put it out.

Shame his actions over ticket prices drove so many long term fans away.

Good to hear from Evans. Low profile owner is good but, fans have filled in the void with their own speculation whenever there is long gap.

Yes braveblue,if only he hadn't made the increase for the 60/65's retrospective.

By all means raise the age to 65 so that any new season ticketholders would be subject to the new age for concessions.

Everything else the club has done this year is positive, including on the pitch, except this.

It still could be rectified,as the club has the names and addresses, although to save administration costs a public announcement could be made stating that all remaining holders would be re-imbursed;and inviting those that did not review to apply if now over 61 for re-instatement of their tickets.

Shorty off to Suffolk.Hope to see another win against the strongest side(on paper)Town have faced season.

It's amazing isn't it what can happen Evans when you spend a bit of cash improving the squad and don't sell your biggest assets? Who knew?!?

we always said it doesn't need 10s of millions to compete, 2 or 3 million a year on solid signings to build year on year, but little investment puts you behind the pack so quickly

The invisible man that strangles this club is obviously chuffed but without proper investment we are going no where.. Yes, the team have done well against average opposition Mr Evans. The team could achieve promotion with a couple of quality players to replace the strugglers we carry . That does not mean signing older ex-players on loan who are likely to add to the injury list after a couple of games. We did that last season.
