Cardiff Again Linked With McGoldrick
Wednesday, 24th Jan 2018 10:35

Cardiff City are reported to have renewed their interest in Town striker David McGoldrick.

The 30-year-old, whose contract is up at the end of the season with the club not having the usual option to keep him for a further year, was first mentioned in connection with the Bluebirds, as well as Birmingham City, earlier in the month.

Now, according to Wales Online, Cardiff manager Neil Warnock, who wants to add another striker to his squad this month, had turned his attention back towards the Republic of Ireland international with a proposed move for Bournemouth’s Lewis Grabban having reached an impasse.

They speculate that an offer somewhere between £500,000 and £1 million might be enough to tempt the Blues into doing a deal for the former Nottingham Forest man, who has scored eight goals this season.

Speaking early in the month, Town boss Mick McCarthy admitted that McGoldrick could be the subject of approaches this month given his contract situation.

“He is an obvious target,” McCarthy said. “None of us want to lose him but we’ll see what happens.”

He added: “I guess there’s the short-term view on the four months left that we’ve got of the season and then the long-term view in terms of if he was to go, it might not be good for the short-term.

“But if we were to replace him with somebody that’s a younger version that comes in and for the long-term of the club that may well be beneficial. If somebody bids for him, if somebody wants to come and take him.”

MM sounds resigned to lose him.

I assume he is one of the highest earners.

A younger version would be lovely thank-you. A new coach would be lovelier.

Another one for whom we'll get money which wont be re-invested. He is, after all, the most talented player we have on the bench or in the treatment room. Makes the Moore deal seem even more difficult to understand.

He was our best player against Bolton

Difficult this one, on his day the best there is, but injuries seem to have diminished his form a bit.
So long as we re-invest, I guess it's best for all, although I thought he wanted to get near his family in Nottingham. Cardiff is a lot further away than town.

Evans clearing out for a fresh start with a new manager with his own choice of players next season?
After spending big with Keane then being mean with Mick, perhaps he may surprise us and go on a spending spree?
After the disappointment of wasting all that money 9 or 10 years ago, maybe, just maybe he's ready for another gamble?
You don't accumulate his sort of wealth without taking a chance every now and then.

Personally, I'd love him to stay, as he has some much about him and we have seen that this season! If we can convince him to stay with a new manager in the summer, reject any offers, as we'll need him when we “play the ball on the deck”. But, if he just wants another challenge, take £1M if we can get that and use that money to spend on reinvesting the squad under a new manager!

If Evans really wants promotion and a return on his investment, then he has to start by pulling out the cheque book!!

Offer him a new contract, if he doesn't sign sell him before the end of the transfer window.

If he goes for a fee or nothing, it won't matter as the money wouldn't get reinvested back into the team.

I really like him on his day. Unfortunately, I personally think he's too injury prone and a bit too inconsistent. I'd imagine he's one of our better paid players and we could use the money to buy a 40+ game a year player rather than 15-20 game player.

Seems like Big Mick is heavily involved in player and club decisions for a manager that is supposedly leaving in 100 days.
But then again he isn't leaving is he? Ian Milne just forgot to tell the fans.

Still hasn't fully recovered from cruciate knee injury. Except for internationals and transfers.

If the club have not given a 12 month extension then they obviously want to get him off the payroll. There is nothing more to say really.

Tricky one this. Mcgoldrick at his best is still one of the best in the league. He just seems so slow lately I think if it's a million we will probably accept it....then loan in a back up striker from Burton Albion no doubt.

If the offers good then move him on now. I get the feeling he will miss some of the remaining part of the season due to injury anyhow. We're mid table with little to go for. Time to give the youths some game time, but I won't hold my breath.

Would be crazy to let McGoldrick leave the club. The only players we,ve had recently that have anything like the skill of McGold rick, are loan players, Tom Laurence and Ryan Fraser, and look how much there worth.

Just as MM has stopped caring, DM has stopped as well. Both know they won't be here next season.

..... McGoldrick is a very talented player, yet again an example of a player who has been played all too often out of position. Down side is he is prone to injury, but many of todays players are unfortunately.

Many and varied disappointments with our Club of today - but one of the saddest is that far too many supporters, are still taken in by, and almost brainwashed by the current regime.

Personally, I don't believe that our own players are as keen to play for the Club anymore - the loan players have a totally different agenda, for obvious reasons which can only benefit themselves.

Massive change needed very soon - before it's too late.

No where near enough end product, and opportunity for our own youngsters, of which there are many, thanks to Brian Klug and his team. This just has to change - currently the only positive part of the Club, but hitting a brick wall with McCarthy as Manager.

I'm not convinced he would want to go to Cardiff. His wife and children live near Nottingham so I would have thought a club nearer there would be better.

To be honest, although I would hate him to go, I can see why he would want a move with his contract here being at an end in the summer and no talks about another contract.

ME really needs to sort something out about the players we will lose in the summer.

' Another one for whom we'll get money which wont be re-invested. '

We lose over £6 mill a year currently which Evans foots the bill for.

No, I'm not happy with our lack of spending etc but footy isn't free!

Elsewhere Palace is to sign Getafe keeper Vincente Guaita so Maybe their interest in Bart has coolened.......hope so, really hope so.

He's a key player. If the owner let's him go it confirms a complete lack of ambition - unless, of course, he is replaced with a strong signing.

Selling him may well be an indication that MM will be leaving as it signifies that ME is giving up on this season and swelling the coffers in preparation for a new manager coming in.

Currie10, we may be losing millions a year but Evans is funding that from player sales not out of his own pocket. And by the way who said running a Championship club doesn't cost the owner money? Has that come as a shock to ours?
