Grays Youngster Brown Set to Join Academy
Monday, 29th Jan 2018 21:31

Grays Athletic midfielder Kai Brown, 16, is reportedly set to join the Blues’ academy following a trial, despite interest from Premier League clubs.

Brown spent time at Playford Road earlier this month and scored for the U18s in their 2-2 draw at Millwall.

The central midfield player broke into the Bostik Football League North Division’s first team in August when he made his debut as a sub in a 2-0 FA Cup victory over Redbridge.

He has been a regular in their matchday squad since then - he has now made 13 starts and 24 sub appearances in all competitions, scoring once - and is understood to have been tracked by scouts from several Premier League clubs.

Meanwhile, Stratford Town striker Ben Stephens was spotted at this afternoon’s U23s victory over Millwall at Playford Road.

As reported a fortnight ago, the 21-year-old is set to spend a few days on trial with the Blues this week.

Much better move for him. He's more likely to get a game here than the likes of Watford and all the other interested parties. It's players such as Kai Brown and Ben Knight that should be pushing for first team football next season. Dozzell, Downes, Nydam, Bishop have all stepped up, so might well happen.

Youngsters are now all more wary about signing for the top clubs for fear of being stickpiled, sent on loan all over Europe then forgotten about. Mid table Championship clubs like hours offer much greater opportunity of getting into the first team squad

Sounds good. Exactly the kind of players we should be looking at. All we need now is a manager who looks to the future and not afraid to give them a chance.

We may have lost our way at first team level but the club is still a desirable place for youngsters. Don't know why some people do not get it that you can't play youngsters who are injured or coming back from injury.
