Chambers: Norwich "Nowhere Near" Play-Off Season Level
Monday, 19th Feb 2018 13:16

Blues skipper Luke Chambers says Norwich City are “nowhere near” the level they were during the 2014/15 season when the sides met in the Championship play-offs.

The Canaries, currently 13th, one place behind the Blues on goal difference, won the two-legged semi-final 4-2 on aggregate and reached the Premier League after beating Middlesbrough 2-0 at Wembley.

However, they lasted only one season in the top flight and are now in their final campaign with parachute payments.

Chambers, whose headed goal was seconds from ending Town’s long wait for a derby victory at Carrow Road yesterday until Timm Klose’s late, late equaliser, felt the home team’s reaction to grabbing the draw was illustrative of their decline.

"They're running around like they've won the cup in the 95th minute when they've spent £200m or whatever in the last five years," Chambers told BBC Radio Suffolk. "It just shows you the state of affairs at the moment.”

He added: “They're not the team that I feel they were three years ago when we played them.

"They're nowhere near that level, hence their league position. Our aim now is to try and finish above them for the rest of the season."

Felt sorry most for this guy yesterday. Thought he had a good game overall and topped it off with attacking the set piece with everything and what he thought must have been the winner. Definitely better with two more footballing centre backs next to him in Webster and Carter-Vickers too. Say anything you like about the club and our playing style but Chambo is an excellent captain who leads by example and obviously cares so much.

Nice one skipper. Could you now remember what you have said and stop saying that we can make a late play off push if we win a few games. If they are not play off material, then we simply aren't either........well most us know that already!

Nice one Chambo! Well said! While not always the best defender, he certainly has passion and is a great leader. Sorry state of affairs that our aim is just to finish above Norwich though.

Spot on Chambo. Nardge were a basic mid-table side with a could of very, very good midfielders (who will be sold in the summer to balance the books). It will be harder for them to replace that quality with around £4m less than we have to spend (that's £6m that Evans puts in minus their higher gate receipts, assuming their fans stay loyal).

Luke chambers just stating the bloody obvious. Perhaps he should be more concerned about our own state of affairs than those of our local rivals. Like why, once again, we failed to close out a match? We are exactly where we deserve to be this season

I'm pretty sure that we are nowhere near where we were 3 years ago either.
Apart from “pleasing our fans” I cannot figure out the point of Chambers comments.

Thought those three centre backs did well yesterday, especially CCV! Just need a decent RWB to help going forward now.

If only Knudsen had done better with that final ball too!

Chambers was great yesterday and it was hardly his fault that we didn't see game out.
I've said for ages that 3 at the back suits us best whoever we play not just to match up other team. Surely that's their problem.
It may not have been Jonas best decision (probably should have shot with Waggy there for any knock on) but Bart dashing out was reckless with so little time to go.

the best part of yesterday was Chambo running to the corner flag and punching the canary - so much passion and he looked thoroughly pissed off at the end - the dream of a fist pump at carrow dump gone. But they are a one man team at the moment - lose Maddison and they have nothing

I have no problem with Chambers winding up the Budgies with his comments. As long as he's also tearing a strip off Adam Webster in private for losing Grant Hanley when the cross came in and then letting him turn, take a step and then cross it back in for Klose to nod in the equaliser. Get yer hand down man appealing for a goal kick and throw your whole body at it, handle it if you must, it was outside the box!

Felt for Chambers yesterday. A pinnacle moment for him as club Captain. Shows passion for his club. Was an amazing moment when he scored. Didn't even know it was him at first. Was complete mayhem in the away stand. Good interview from him on ifollow as well. Was impressed with CCV.

Well done yesterday Chambo agree with you that they are nowhere near the side we have played over the last couple of years when we were quit clearly second best player wise but someone should bloody tell the boss this. Why was he so bloody negative against a weaker that ever Narge leaving the likes of Celina or Caroyal rooted to the bench.

Everyone stop saying how great Chambo was and how well we played , without Bart it would have been embarrassing again .
They will finish a lot nearer the playoffs than we do

Still trying to work out how ref put 5min of extra time when all there was was sub changes. He gave me the impression that wanted them to equalise

Chambers comments make you laugh as if we were anyway near playoffs he is just Mighty mucks mouth piece watched Rochdale yesterday wonder how much they payed in transfers or wages and look what they did it's nothing to do with money it's about having a proper manager with a proper game plan who plays football on the ground and not just picks proper blokes

Well said Chambo we need more players with your passion

Chambo is a good captain and is passionate but have to say probably his best playing days are behind him, and as for us playing well? I'm not so sure, our ugly football was better than their passing football 1st half i.e. pressing high forcing them into mistakes and Garner falling over regularly trying to win free kicks (which by and large looked our only way of scoring).
2nd half we basically didn't do anything up until a minute before Chambers scored.

Who cares about them? We are nowhere near good enough either.
