McCarthy: Player Contracts Now Not for Me to Deal With
Thursday, 5th Apr 2018 17:47

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says Town player contracts are not something for him to deal with now that it has been confirmed he will be leaving the club in the summer.

Midfield duo Teddy Bishop and Luke Hyam are among those whose deals are up but with the club having an option to keep them for a further season, while David McGoldrick’s contract, which includes no clause along those lines, also ends in the summer.

Asked whether he’ll continuing to do ‘housekeeping’ type tasks in the final weeks of his time at Town, McCarthy responded: “To a point. Everything I’ve done up until this point will go forward but I can’t think of anybody else I’ve been recommending for deals.

“Luke Hyam and people who are coming of contract, that’s not for me to deal with now, I’ve given my opinion on all those.

“It would be wrong wouldn’t it, for me now to be doing it when I’m not going to be here and certainly in terms of anybody’s future not to be here, that’s not for me to deal with.”

Are those players more unsettled as a result of the change in management situation? “Luke’s just playing. He quite wanted to go out on loan in the window because he didn’t think he’d get any football. But I said, ‘You will, you’ll get some games’ and he’s better of playing here, he knows everybody, he doesn’t have to go and settle in.

“And he’s come on, he’s had a couple of games and he will get some more football before the end of the season.

“I guess it’s for the people who are going to decide now to watch and see whether they think he’s got value to the squad.

“I’d only say that at the moment currently we’ve Tom Adeyemi, Emyr Huws, Dozzer, Bish all injured. We’ve got Tristan Nydam coming through, we’ve got Flynn Downes coming through, all who want to come back and play.

“We’ve had more midfield players this year than you can shake a stick at and yet they’ve all been injured, so we’ve needed more.

“It’s up to somebody else to decide who’s going to come, who is going to stay. That’s not my job that one now.”

Quizzed on McGoldrick’s situation, he added: “I’m not quite sure. I think he’s been one of the big players and any time a transfer window’s come along there’s always been conjecture, ‘he might leave, he might not’.

“So I haven’t spoken to him really on that subject. And, of course, I won’t be speaking to him now on it. Unless I tap him up for somewhere else, of course!”

Pressed further on currently-injured Bishop’s situation, he added: “You’ll have to speak to someone else, I’m afraid.”

So seriously just put him on garden leave that's what happens in the real world ? Get someone to keep the team ticking over until the new man is found? It only could happen at Ipswich?

What's wrong with what he's saying? He's been giving his opinion on each player to ME. It's up to ME to then search confirmations from the rest of the coaching staff or wait until we have a new manager in place. Would you like for us to sit there with additional unwanted players?

This is why the who,e situation of MM staying on is madness. Someone - preferably the new manager - needs to be appointed sooner rather than later in order to make these important decisions. Seeing the players play a competitive game under their management would I'd have thought helped!

Marcu Evans you should hang your head in shame your boring ownership is not worthy of our club.

MM is spelling out to you he couldn't care less by saying stuff like "Unless I tap him up for somewhere else, of course!"

This is rank bad management at any level and MM is capable of doing a good deal of damage behind the scenes before he eventually struts our of PR.

There must be options within the club !! .. If it costs club money then whose fault is that !!

As glad as I am MM is going I'd be much happier if he was gone the bloke is an arrogant fool disrespecting the fans and club at every opportunity.

I have nothing personally against MM
But I find the senior management at the club lacking in leadership
No leader no strategy

Anyone writing anything negative about Mick here is pretty limited.

What would you rather he do, sign various players up on two / three year contracts !?

I agree he should leave - but it's not down to him it's EVANS FAULT.

Wake up!

We will not get a new manager until May as all candidates will stay in current role until the season ends. If the club recruit now I'd be annoyed as it will only be those out of work. At the end of the season managers that don't get promoted via Blackburn, Luton, Shrewsbury or Lincoln for example may look at bus more favourably. Take Mowbraybas an example if he wins promotion I doubt he will join us. If he doesn't he may find it more appealing. I don't like MM from football quality or interaction with fans and media but I do believe he has integrity and will do the job well till the end.

Thanks goodness, he should never have sold Moore or given Skuse two years (he had a year option). We've been crying out for tall cf to help out Joe and Waggy but instead he continues with Freddie and still the ball is hoofed up with little chance of keeping possession. Thank goodness we tried to play it on the deck against Millwall but you could see that it wasn't comfortable for some. Just shows that we do have players that can play possession football, so it was the manager's fault!
Evans should appoint manager well before end of season and give him some games to assess squad otherwise players will leave that he might have kept. Its so daft!

For all the expert opinions on here the new manager to be may well be present or represented at our last six games?

itfchorry. There's a lot of similarities between the pushing out of MM and Brexit. No doubt you supported those American citizens who voted for Trump too - the Ally Macleod of football managers..

Sadly Kikapu - you seem unable to grasp the
meaning of democracy-

In all fairness to Mick there is very little he can do regarding players contracts. It's up to the new bloke to come in and work out who he wants. With regards to Mick I can see a man who is trying to keep professional till the end. If another job comes in for him who can blame him for taking it. His no difference than anybody else in trying to earn a living

Woodbridgian added 06:21 - Apr 6
Surely he has claimed many times before that he has nothing to do with player contracts, at least every time something's been messed up like Chambers last season,. So what new? Just more verbal nonsense from MM

I still think that when he gave Skuse a 2 year contract he thought he was untouchable and staying now there are a few of his favourites been shaken out of their comfort zones Skuse having his best game in over 2 years on Monday(and about time too!!) being an example.

Same old numbskulls posting the same tired comments irrespective of the facts. It's great that MM is going and perhaps he can take the tiresome posters with him. They deserve each other.

It is a fact that once a manager in any occupation indicates they will be moving on or retiring their part of the organisation is left in a period of limbo. MM cannot, and should not, make significant decisions on the future of staff or the organisation itself. Football manager seems to take on some mythical importance in the eyes of some where those norms shouldn't apply. People turned on MM because of the boring football but now they jump on him for everything.

MM is no fool. He knows how to manage part of an organisation extremely well and he appears to be a very good man manager whose staff have a great deal of respect for him. It is time for him to go but people who find fault in everything he says and does are wrong. I wonder how good those who criticise him are at being managers. Easy to criticise, harder to do.
