McCarthy: Kieffer Will Have Something to Prove
Monday, 9th Apr 2018 19:50

Town boss Mick McCarthy is sure former Blues striker Kieffer Moore will visit Portman Road tomorrow with Barnsley with something to prove.

Moore, 25, was sold to the Tykes in January for a fee of £750,000 having joined the Blues a year earlier for just £20,000 from then-National League Forest Green Rovers.

After making only 11 sub appearances for the Blues during the second half of last season without scoring, Moore was loaned to Rotherham in the summer.

While with the League One Millers, the Torquay-born frontman smashed 13 goals and attracted interest from Barnsley and a host of other clubs during January.

Since moving to Oakwell Moore has netted three goals in 11 starts and three sub appearances.

“Yes, sod’s law, I suppose, Murphy’s law, whatever it is,” McCarthy reflected. “He’ll come up here and he’ll want to prove that he should have stayed here, I guess.

“But he’s done well at Rotherham, he’s been doing OK, Barnsley have had some good results and the club did all right out of that deal as well.”

Was it simply a case that it was too good a deal to turn down or did McCarthy not feel Moore was capable of making it at Championship level?

“In the end it wouldn’t matter what my thoughts were on it,” he said. “I think he’s always going to be an asset and a handful in the league. Whether he’s going to be a top performer in the Championship on a regular basis that remains to be seen because that’s not been done yet by him. But it was blooming good deal.”

Asked whether a manager feels a sense of professional pride having pulled off a deal where the fee received is so much greater than the sum previously paid, he added: “Didn’t benefit me at all though, did it? I think it’s good business, it’s good management, of course.”

How many of our current strikers are top performers in the Championship on a regular basis? If Moore is proving a handful and has scored 3 goals since January, I'd say Barnsley should be happier with Moore than we are with the £750k so far.

We have Garner, Waghorn and McGoldrick who are all better then him.It made sense to sell a player who did not look up to it at this level across multiple sub appearances for considerable profit only a year on. But no lets REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and have ago at mick for no good reason as usual :)

Isn't it all academic if the profit obtained from Moore's sale is not reinvested...

MM getting his story ready for Wednesday. “Top lad is Kieffer, said all along he'd have a point to prove and I was right. Took his 2 Goals well and Barnsley, they're a decent side in a false position”.

He was pretty awful in the time I saw him on the pitch and couldn't believe he was worth the money Barnsley paid. When he joined Town I thought he would be a great asset up front, but when trying to head the ball he had great difficulty in getting his head any higher than it was in his normal standing position.

PS: He may have improved since then, we shall see tomorrow.

Sells the bloke the same season he buys him. Like Pitman, MM never gave him a chance but persists with his faves.

Well I saw him play and he was utter garbage 750,000 what a waste of money could,nt control a ball good business by M.M. As for Jack Marriot he was a disgrace to himself never mind the club had a rocket up his rear end.ptrobably a massive shock to his super ego,he's obviously manned up still looks a stragglers tailed tramp time he looked and grew up

Did really well at Rotherham and is repeating that form for Barnsley. Maybe our style of play didn't suit him? Hard to say....

Anyway...we still have Sears....1553 minutes without a goal...and manages 1 shot every 2 games. You can say one thing for sure...MIck sticks by his players regardless....

Anyone here using this as a stick to beat Mick with is an idiot frankly.

I saw Moore play for us, he was hopeless. The money we got for him was a great deal (not Mick's fault if he wasn't given the money).

He's scored three goals so far in the championship. Hardly setting the world on fire.

If he goes on to do well, then fair play to him but no Town fan who'd seen him play would have seriously thought it was bad business to sell him.

£750,000 in this day and age, for a 25 year old banging them in over half a year in league 1.

The three club rule in my mind at least is the main reason this deal happened - had that not been in place, we'd have been absolutely mad not to have given him a go - especially considering Garner has been carrying a knock for a long period of time and is out until the end of the season.

With that being said, I think due to that pathetic rule we actually did the right thing.... If he played even one second for us, we wouldn't have been able to sell him at all - so essentially we've got £750k plus offloaded his wages - reported to be £3k p.w so all in just shy of £900k.

Definitely worth the punt and good luck to the future.

Reading between the lines I'd say that MM thought he wasn't good enough and the right fit for the current squad.

Also the money he's on is way more that MM thought he's worth.

Sounds like a great deal for us. Get rid

After seeing him a lot at non league level still think this was a great deal for Town . He may score against us but that is due to the fact that even with the best keeper in the league and playing 8 defenders we cant actually defend very well !!

What has he got to prove ? - he's proved he's good enough fpr the Championship.

That's more than a few of McCarthy's favourites are.

Showing your knowledge of football with that statement 3 goals in a season wow lets buy him back.

....... with your knowledge of Football peteswindon ... ?? - you should know that it is not all about scoring goals, but then again you are obviously one of the 'you know who' brigade who would conveniently overlook that fact.

Biased or what ?

Why does Kieffer Moore deserve criticism from some of you people ?? - he was never given a fair chance here, along with a few others who've left.

Some of you are so far entrenched with McCarthy - it is unhealthy. Thankfully for the Clubs sake and future, you are in the MINORITY in believing in 'all things McCarthy'.

STOP condoning his every move - he's GOING. We should ALL be grateful of that.

Lets get back to having a Manager who appreciates, and values the SUPPORTERS - not just his fat pay advice slip.
